NO 'HOTMAIL' DEFAULT PROGRAMS...

Windows 7 and IE 8.  I have "No email associated with this blah blah application, please install or use program defauls etc..".  When I go to default programs, there is no email listed.  How to do on the list by default HOTMAIL?  I am attached to copy the address so I can open my hotmail account and copy the address copied to email... Thanks in advance... Tom...

Although hotmail can be used with live mail, you must first download it and open it,

Sign in with the same e-mail address and password in hotmail / outlook.com.

  • Windows Live Mail does not present as an option for default programs or in the Start Menu.

Something happened this week. I can't identify enough exactly when so I can't say with certainty whether or not it is the new update of 2011.

I use Windows Live Mail (desktop application) for the mail. It is installed and since I built the machine first. I've recently updated for 2011 through Windows Update. In the Start Menu, the default e-mail link no longer works. If I go to customize, I have the options of Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, and Outlook. If I select Windows Live Mail, it launches a web browser to go to live.com and use Hotmail (which I don't use).

Now, if I choose Windows Mail, and then re - open Windows Live Mail manually, I can set it by default. In this case, when I go back into the Start Menu, the link is there but empty and you get a message that "the selected item is not available. It might have been moved, renamed, or deleted. You want to remove from the list? "I can't get around that. Under "Default programs" in the Control Panel, Windows Live Mail is not yet there. It's as if she is not yet installed, and whatever the shortcut points to (wherever it may be) is apparently nothing. In the registry, under HKLM/Software/customers/Mail, there is no key for 'DLLPath' and "LocalizedString" as there are other programs.

I must point out that repair installation does not help and neither does file and reinstalling.

I managed to solve the problem.  I received an email from another user and I'm sorry to say, I do not remember what were the instructions in the email.  The answer to (y) our problem used to exist on the web, until Microsoft has removed the old answers live site, or something like that.

IIRC, I believe that it was fixing the misdirected registry keys.

  • E-mail default program

I'm doing my default Windows Live Mail email program, Windows Mail at the moment is.  I went to the start menu, click default programs, and then set the default program - my problem is that when I go in there single window mail is the only listed program, Live Mail is not.  How can I make my program by default if it is not listed there?

    Thank you!

Is it possible that you have mixed the terms of...

Windows Live Mail... it will appear under set your default programs
Windows Live Hotmail... It will NOT be listed under set your default programs.

I had read an article that the user can make Windows Live Hotmail , listed in the set your default programs, but I have not saved article. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

  • How to create an association in the default programs

My HP printer cannot scan documents directly to my email unless I have create an association.  I use Microsoft outlook to access my hotmail account, so according to the HP support site, I should be able to use outlook to scan directly to my printer to create a Sendable pdf directly to my email.  Whenever I try, he tells me to create an association in the default programs, and I'm fighting to do.  I use Windows 8, if anyone can help I would be grateful.  Thank you.

    Hi Ashley,

Thanks for posting your question on the forums.

I can understand your frustration and will try to help you solve it.

Answer the questions below to get a clearer picture of the issue:

    1. What version of Outlook are you using?
    2. What is brand and model of your HP printer?
    3. The scanner works great in outside scan directly to e-mail?

In order to create an association in the default programs , you can follow the link below:

Program access and computer by default

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/set-program-access-computer-defaults

You can also follow the link below which has more details on the type of questions that appeal to you:

  • Windows 8 question "creating associations in default programs"

When I click with the right button on anything and want to send by email, it tells me there is no e-mail program associated with this function, and to create an association in the default programs control panel. When I'm here, it gives me four choices to click on, making no sense at all to me.

Can I have some details on the creation of an association to my Microsoft"live"account, which is the only email I have.

Windows 7 automatgicly whatever it is attached to my outlook, Hotmail or live email which was all the same anyway, I think that

Unlike Vista and WinXP, Win8 nor Win7 includes a default email Client. [App Mail of Win8 is not a Mail Client.]

If you want to MailTo and send to functions work properly, you will need to install an e-mail Client (for example, Windows Live Mail [free];) MS Outlook [non-free]) and then check that it is registered as the default to e-mail in CUSTOM (<>) the section default computer Configure programs.

[Yes, it's very confusing. [What were thinking?]

  • When I try to change the default program for opening a specific file type in the "always use the selected program to open this type of file" highlights not.

So, I can't change the default program. How can I get it to show?

    Hello Swansong,
It is also possible for Panel Applications - define how Firefox handles different types of files

  • In "set your default programs" under Win7, file associations of Firefox are altered.

"Set your default programs" in the control panel of Windows 7, Firefox appears in the list of "Programs" on the left. But its icon is that of Windows Media Player.

After I click on the name of the program (Firefox) to see the details on the right, I noticed that Firefox icon becomes that of Windows Media Player, also. And "Mozilla Corporation" becomes "Microsoft Corporation".

If I click on "Set this program as default", files of these types are opened by Windows Media Player, no Firefox:
    htm, html, shtml, xht, xhtml.

So I must manually associate these file types Firefox to "associate a type of file or Protocol with a specific program.

To resolve this problem, should what registry entries I change?

You can try to uninstall and reinstall Firefox, perhaps as an administrator.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the program folder before Firefox to (re) install a new copy of the current version of Firefox.

Download a new copy of Firefox and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current version of Firefox, if possible, the settings in the software security and cleaning of the Windows registry.

    • Do NOT remove the data personal when you uninstall your current version of Firefox, because all profile files will be deleted and you lose personal data such as bookmarks and passwords from other versions of Firefox profiles.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    • (32-bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    • (Windows 64 bit) "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a uninstall and (re) install, but make sure that 'delete personal data' is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • Default program

Hello, running a Windows 7 laptop. Common problem, frequently asked question:

Initially, I was opening a file "wmlp. I messed up the settings and now my default program to open all my files is 'Microsoft Word 2010' (at the moment). I am aware that I have the opportunity to change that, but every time I do (with the box checked in the prompt on the choice of which program you want to use to open the file and others related to it), is to change to the default program for * all * of my files.  Google results had people with the same problem, but I thought I could get direct assistance here if I asked my question as I wanted it too. The "recommended programs" to open files is not a behavior either. There is a simple way to solve this problem, I'm sure of that, but I really need step by step directions. Thank you and my apologies for the long paragraph.

    Hello Nporro

At the file "wmlp" a shortcut to the file? I ask because I came across a Microsoft Answers post who described the similar scenario and has worked for some people. In this case, the problem is that a shortcut .lnk file was his association has changed to always open in Word. As these shortcuts to applications, would open in Word.
Why all my programs and files open with Microsoft word?

If you read the other posts, some users also followed an alternative job and have found success. Let me know if the problem persists.

  • Cannot change default programs as an administrator

I opened the JPEG files for the past 6 months with a program called FSViewer, but yesterday when I did it, the file is opened with a Windows program that is basically useless. I tried to reset the default value, but the program, FSviewer will not appear in the list once I selected it, I tried also in Control Panel by using the Folder Options. Does not allow me to change it. If I log in as a guest or with another account, no problem, I can change the default program, but it only works in other accounts and not as my main account, which is also administrator of the computer. I also tried to change another account limited to the administrator of the computer, and it allows me to change the default settings of the program without problem. If I change my main account to limited, it still does not change the default program. I guess I could remove the primary account/computer Manager, and start again, but I'd rather not. I am able to download and install programs, but not able to change the default programs.

How can I get my main account to change default programs?
