No Internet connection (local only)

I use Windows Vista and connect to my network home of my laptop. my home network is a windows XP PC and has a broadband connection that is wireless (secure network).

My laptop, the connection is unsuccessful because the network is not identified and the only connected locally.

There is no internet connection, and so Internet will not work on Mozilla and Internet Explorer.

I need to know why and how I'm supposed to connect to the internet through your laptop.

Thanks in advance

Hello Yes Man,

It seems that you are not able to acquire an IP address from your router. Check your IP settings, and if this is the case, follow the steps in the link below:

  • The Internet connects 'local only' after the regular updates?

    Hello

My computer has installed its regular updates about a week ago and since then, the internet has had connection problems. It connects to the ordinary router, but it is "local only" and will not fully connect to the internet. The only solution I found to the problem is that my owner to restart the router, which is not the most convenient thing to do whenever I turn on my computer. I have windows vista with all standard Internet programs, and I use chrome. I also have a second windows computer that exposes the same problem, which is running windows 7, which has also installed updates. My roommate's computer is a Mac and is not at all account of all the problems.

Before doing the following, disconnect any WiFi network.

    Navigate to the following location:

    Control network and Internet\Network connections

Right-click on the WLAN adapter you are using. Click on properties. On the Networking tab, look for Internet Protocol Version 4. Select it, and then click Properties. On the general tab, select the IP address automatically and DNS server automatically get an address. On the next tab, select automatic private IP address. Click Ok. • Connection Internet says 'Local' only and I can't access the internet at my convenience.

I'm not a computer genius, but I know that's not my wireless which is mess up and not allow me to access internet from my laptop.  If I try to access my home, or somewhere else that provides wireless internet, I always have trouble getting.  IF it connects, it shows 'Local' only and not allow me to access the internet.  It seems to do this when I am on the internet while someone else in my household is on it as well.  Which shouldn't be a problem at all.  I should be able to access the internet if someone else uses it or not.  Never had this problem until I got this new laptop with vista.  It lasts for almost a year now and I'm taking classes online and cannot deal with this problem any longer.  Please someone help me solve this ongoing problem that seems to be quite common!

  • Problem with Internet access: local only for wireless in Vista

Help, please.  I have a Dell laptop and a Dell desktop computer.  The other day, I pressed WPS on my router Netgear wireless, and since then, my desktop computer (Windows Vista Home Premium SP2) was not able to connect to the Internet.  The office is connected to my router.  My Dell (Win 7 Pro) laptop is able to connect wirelessly to the router and Internet.

    That's what I tried:
    (1) I bought a new wireless router Netgear WNDR4500
    (2) I bought a cutting mini USB wifi adapter for the desktop.  Install the driver.
    (3) reset winsock, ipv4, ipv6, dns
    -netsh int ip reset reset.log
    -netsh winsock reset catalog
    ipconfig/flushdns
    (4) order McAfee firewall
    (5) restarted several times
    (6) persons with disabilities wired and wireless enabled - I get signal green/fort
    (7) off active and wired wireless
None of the above seem to work.  I keep getting 'Access to local only' on both cables and wireless.  When I ping yahoo.com, I get no response.
My laptop, however, works very well in the connection to the wireless router and also to the Internet.
Anything else I can try?  Help, please!

  • Unable to connect, 'Local only' for a few days now

Approximately every 2 months home my computer Windows Vista unable to connect to my network.  I get the Local only and in the area of the network it is stuck on "identification" and will never stop.  I rebooted, reset the router and the modem, etc..   This usually lasts for days then it pops up right back on and it's fine.  Any ideas I can do if I don't have to wait days for it to reconnect?   Thank you.

    > Ken - Support Engineer: you can try another card network (wired) to this computer?
I contacted my OEM. The Ethernet chip is based on the motherboard and cannot be replaced without replacing the motherboard.

My OEM suggested to reinstall the drivers or a system restore before SP2 or wipe the laptop and re - install Windows.

I tried reinstalling the drivers, nothing works. When I have more time, I am considering a system restore before SP2. If I wipe Windows I'll probably install XP Pro instead. I am completely sick of Blista.

Another difference I found between Networking in Safe Mode and Normal Mode is the failure of the (spldr) security processor loader driver; It fails in the former mode, but is OK in this last mode. I sent the error report to Microsoft via the reports of problem and Solutions for your reading.

  • my cable internet connection is only 10Mbps and won't go to 100 Mbps windows Vista premium edition

My inter connection wire line or hard earth runs only at 10 Mbit/s and should be 100 Mbit/s running vista Home premium and and using realtek rtl8168C (P) / 8111C (P) FAMILY GIGABIT ETHERNET NIC (NDIS 6.0).  How can I solve this problem.

    Hello

I'm not aware of any Internet service provider that offers a 100 Mbps connection.

The speed of the Internet connection is not a function of your material, but by the contract you have with the provider.

  • Computer internet connection drop (only configuring a connection)

Good evening.  I am running Win7.  I have a modem/router Netgear connected with BT broadband and Ethernet connection between my computer and the router.

When I switch off my computer for the night and resume the next day, the computer says that I have no network connection.  My wife's cell phone and the son can always access the internet via the wireless connection, and in all other respects, the network is functional.

In order to restore the internet connection from my computer after power off, I have to reset the router.  Once this is done, the computer takes up his internet connection and network with all its cable systems and wireless connections continue to work perfectly.  In my view, that it is a software problem with the adapter to computer network, but beyond my ability to resolve.  Grateful for any help you can give.

Go to Device Manager and uninstall your network card.  Restart the computer and it will reinstall it.

If that does not resolve the problem, I suspect that your router has a problem.  I notice that you tell us that your router wireless works well, but your (and only you) wired is not.

You can also try to change the cable, but it rarely makes a difference.  Try also using a different router port.

Replacement is not big an investment and typically brings benefits, if you buy well.  A high price on a new router doesn't mean better.  Some of the costs down those are just as good.  The Dlink DIR L 605 is an example of a great router at a reasonable price.

    Hello:

From what you wrote, I see not listed wireless network card.

NForce network controller is wired ethernet adapter.

Your model series was suffering an epidemic of motherboards failed.

Main points of failure were the video card and the Mini-PCIe connector to which the wireless adapter is connected.

I suspect that the laptop's internal wireless capabilities are made for.

The only alternative to a costly (and not recommended) replacement of the motherboard is to buy a good external USB wireless adapter.

  • Problems accessing internet, access "Local only" our network connection

I have a Compaq laptop (bought in 2008) under Vista Home Premium.  Recently, I was unable to connect to the internet.  The connection to the router is successful, but it says Local access only.

Frustration, I re-charge the full operating system today.  No difference, unfortunately.  (And, now that the summer is reset, I don't have the updates of Windows, etc..).

I tried a few things on the internet but you had no chance.

  • Internet connection going, only fixed by restarting?

I recently had to reinstall Vista after it was trashed by one of its own updates and since then I had the problem I used to recover the past, months where every two days, the wireless internet stops working and a reboot seems to be the only thing he will get.  Y at - it an update or service pack or something I'm missing?

    Hello

    Try to update the driver:

Control Panel - network - write down of the brand and the model of the Wifi - double click top - tab of the driver - write
version - click the driver update (cannot do something that MS is far behind the pilots of certification). Then
Right click on the Wifi device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - it will refresh the driver stack.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

You can download several at once however restart after the installation of each of them.

After watching the system manufacturer, you can check the manufacturer of the device an even newer version. (The
manufacturer of system become your backup policies).

Repeat for network (NIC) card and is a good time to get the other updated drivers as Vista like
    updated drivers.

I would also turn off auto update for the drivers. If the updates Windows suggests a just HIDE as they
are almost always old, and you can search drivers manually as needed.
