Internet connection is only Local (open wireless connection)

Windows (VISTA HP SVP2) won't connect to my wireless - only local connection, but it is not a question HDWARE I am connected now on ubntu on a computer to dual boot. Why Windows can't see no internet?  It connects local only to a shared wireless hub

tonight I resert the metwork adapter to automatically detect the IP4 and IP6 addresses.  This resolved immeidately SAT problem like ubuntu could connect, the modem does not need to be reset.  In connections in Vista on the Networking tab, you can select automatic detection.  MS help options that appear when you explain your diagnosis and repair

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software .

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2: Follow these steps:

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode with network and check if the problem persists.

Step 2: If the problem does not persist in safe mode with networking, perform a clean boot to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the link step 7 to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

  • The Internet connects 'local only' after the regular updates?

    Hello

My computer has installed its regular updates about a week ago and since then, the internet has had connection problems. It connects to the ordinary router, but it is "local only" and will not fully connect to the internet. The only solution I found to the problem is that my owner to restart the router, which is not the most convenient thing to do whenever I turn on my computer. I have windows vista with all standard Internet programs, and I use chrome. I also have a second windows computer that exposes the same problem, which is running windows 7, which has also installed updates. My roommate's computer is a Mac and is not at all account of all the problems.

  • interruption of the internet connection after installing vista sp2, only a local network

    Hello
Since I installed vista sp2 last week, I have no internet connection. Just, my laptop connects to the local network. I had already tried to uninstall sp2, but this does not resolve the issue. A restore of the system has not been successful (do not know why, windows just said failure of system restore). I also deleted my antivirus program and my firewall...
The internet works occasionally for a short time and when I start in safe mode.
Because I live in a House that I have to use a fix ip, gateway and dns. After you install sp2, windows says my default gateway does not match my ip address and subnet mask when I change the properties of TCP/IPv4. Using another laptop with XP, the internet connection works with the same settings.
I would be grateful for a quick solution, without formatting ;)

I've highlighted the TCP/IPv6 line of course ;) the button was inactive when even
in the registry, I saw WHAT TCP/IPv6 is already disabled

my internet actually works, but I don't know why
I deleted the file DisabledComponets for TCP/IPv6 in the registry, rebooted, create one, rebooted and it worked
but I do not know why :)
I hope that my internet is still functional

  • Vista Service Pack 2 (32-bit) update: but INTERNET CONNECTION NOT: says Local only

    Hi guys

I have a problem with my internet connection after updating Vista SP2... I tried to connect it in several places (home, office, laboratory, etc.) and around that it is impossible to connect... I'm running Vista on laptop HP Pavilion dv2000 (inter core duo - 2 GHz, 2 GB ram) and it worked fine until this update...

I followed the suggestions made in the other thread (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistanetworking/thread/bf6b77e6-3d22-46d7-921f-4f4d593e780f), to reinstall the Protocol TCP/IP in Vista, but still the problem persists...

I uninstalled SP2 as some people suggested, but the problem remains...
so now I restored the system to a restore point after installation of SP2 as it recommended... But now, it indicates that the system is running on SP1 rather SP2... and still no internet connection...

I'd be happy if someone can help me in my Internet connection system...

    Thanks in advance

  • No internet connection but wireless & modem work. Server DNS - RESOLVED error

Just in case someone else has this problem...

So this morning the home computer wouldn't connect to the internet.  He kept coming with an open internet page of cant and gave a DNS error as a solution.  However, the laptop can connect wireless and internet on which was fine - if it was just the computer at home.  So I called Telstra Bigpond and spent 2 hours trying to solve the problem.  We got things setting Lan, added IP addresses, did a lot of restarts, has done a modem reset, delete history of navigation, plugged the cables this and that.

The only thing after 2 hours was to do a Virus scan and then they'd call back as I had so-called spyware.  Fact that - nothing reported on McAfee.

So they called up and said you can take your computer to a technician or talk to the technicians telstra for a fee.  We refused dish but I connected to them to discuss.  The man of Telstra + support Premium said DNS problem is fixable for a fee of $99 and it would be remotely connect to my computer etc.  I refused because I said I know that this will not be an easy fix, and theres no way I can pay $99.  He said its not so easy, so it was to me.  I hung up.

PROBLEM SOLVED!  So going through paperwork I noticed another tech support number of telstra.  I thought that I'll call and see if it is the same incompetent people.  HOWEVER... on this line is a recorded message and he said if you are a McAfee product user and you have internet connection problems call the Mcafee line on 1800 998 887 and press 1.   I did it and Mcafee said: you need power your computer in safe mode (gives the instructions) and then download the MVP Virtual technician.  As soon as I did this and followed the simple procedure (less than 10 minutes everything including 2 starts) all is well again and computer is normal!

I'm outraged, so now I'm waiting for Telstra still to let them know how inadequate their service and communication has been!  I can't believe that it is a known issue (quite urgent for them to do a pre recorded message) but the technical team don't even know on this subject.

I hope that if anyone else has this problem they see this post and save a LOT OF TIME and money!

    Thanks for sharing the information.

  • No internet connection AFTER startup, but only works during the boot.

    Hi all

Have a Win XP MCE (Media Center Edition) Dell laptop running.  I can only connect to internet when the system is even start, and I click on the shortcut to IE or Firefox. Once the system completes the startup it connects me to the internet WITHOUT problem & with good signal and good connection speeds.  System connect wirelessly through a Linksys router.

If I left the initialization of the system ended up - and I'm trying to connect to IE or Firefox - the hourglass appears for a minute and then disappears and I get no connection!

This means that I must always start the internet connection while system is always initialize, and if I end the connection I get only back to restart system in place and opening connection when appear the icons on the desktop for IE or Firefox!

I am puzzled by this and have no idea what to do to solve the problem!
    TNX a lot!

    Hello

    • What were the changes made before the issue occur?

Verify that if the problem exists in Mode safe mode with networking, if the computer works as expected in mode safe mode with networking, and then we can solve the problem in the clean boot state.
    a. refer to the article below for the procedure safe mode in Windows XP
A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

    b. it is a possibility that there is a startup program that is launched with a command line and it appears.
You need to perform a clean boot to find the program that is causing and then disable or remove.

  • I only 'local only' connection, does anyone know a real solution that works?

    Hello

My computer is a Dell XPS M1330 on Vista.
Recently, I have noticed my wifi says identification or connected only local connection.
Because this came I was not able to connect to any wireless network.
I tried to connect directly via cable ethernet... still the same
Even my 3 G Dongle says the same thing.
The router works well because I use another computer on it, cables etc. all well tested okay with other computers.
The computer worked fine on the router until the router is a D-Link router.
I am pleased that the router is not the problem as all of the other computers and devices connect very well but I tried factory resetting is still no joy.
I tried drvers off installation and reinstallation on the computer, but that networking does not work on wired, wireless or 3 g dongle I suspect something went wrong somewhere with the computer.
Can someone please suggest a solution.

    Troubleshooting Internet connectivity

1 answer to the first and second troubleshooting Questions:

First Question of troubleshooting: If the problem is new, what has changed between the time things worked and the time they do not have?

The second issue of Windows troubleshooting: what is the status of virus/malware of the machine? If you think it's clean, what programs (and versions) allows you to determine this?

Make sure that the computer is clean - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Many variants of malware will allow a proxy server if you are unable to Internet. Go to control panel > Internet Options > connectivity tab > LAN button. If all is selected in the section Server Proxy, uncheck the box, apply/OK outside.

    2. If nothing has changed and that the computer is clean, what antivirus/security programs are you running? Have AVG 8 or Zone Alarm? These two programs have had updates that caused Internet connectivity problems. I don't recommend either of these programs, but if you want to keep check them on the mftrs.' support websites.

    3. If #2 is not applicable:

    a. unplug the router.
    b. disconnect the modem. (If you have a DOCSIS 3 modem with battery backup, press the Reset button to reset the modem so the lights go out).
    c. wait 60 seconds.
    d. plug the modem (or wait until the reboot is completed) and expect that all the lights are on.
    e. plug the router and wait until all lights are on.

You now have an Internet connection? Otherwise:

    4. connect your computer directly to the cable/DSL modem. You now have an Internet connection? If so, there is a problem with the router. They do not last forever. Replace it.

If there is no Internet when your computer is connected directly to the cable/DSL modem, call your ISP because something is wrong with the cable/DSL modem or your Internet service.

    Hello

Well, you said that the Internet connection is working that with the cable so you have checked the settings wireless LAN on the router? WLAN is enabled on the router?
In addition, you should try to update the firmware on your router.

Also, make sure that you use the same WLAN settings than on your router. I mean the channel and speed (e.g. 802.11 g).

You should also try to disable encryption on the router. Can you connect to the router then?

Finally and most importantly, you use factory settings or you have installed another OS?
