No light on SAS drive

We have a 3.0.2 host in a remote office, where one user said that there is no light on one of the disks.  It is one of the two 72GO SAS drives which are in the opposite direction, which ESX is installed.  The server is a DL585 G2.  On the homepage of Mgmt. systems of the server, it shows that all 8 disks in the box being fine - all the "indicator of problem" and "flag down" statistics are nil.

ESX wouldn't be given evolving and therefore written to each drive?  Is it possible that the light itself to burn? (don't think I have ever seen)

Personally, if it was me and I got maintaince contract for this server, I would have the disc replaced without worrying if it's just a light out or not. As others have said sometimes the plastic band that brings light to the front is slightly misaligned, or the led could have come loose, but at the end of the disc, but technically, the drive does not 100% if the stupid little light is not on.

Just my 2 cents

  • How to add additional sas drive to an existing IBM midsize V3700 and do like being active in all hosts with vcenter server devices

    Hello team,

In our infra we have 8 node of the flex IBM x 240 and 1 IBM midsize V3700 host as storage device. In this 19 storage hard drives busy with 600 GB 10 k 6 GB SAS drive and 5 locations are still, that storage is divided into 2 for test and Production. Now we expect for resizing the activity so that we plan to add more 5 hdd storage, can someone guide me how do it properly without any problem.  If I add the HARD drive storage how to initialize and map to the existng storage. If someone has done this before please guide me to continue.uat.JPGPro.JPG

What you have to do is create a new disk (mdisk) group and add to your existing (mdiskgrp), to make task record the following:

    1. click on internal disks and then bind o pools:

    2. click on configure storage:

    3. on the storage configuration wizard, you can select use recommended Configuration or select a Configuration different, but the most important is to select your existing disk group RAID level:

    4. then select the Expand existing Pool:

Once the capacity of the new disk has been added to your existing pool, you can create new volumes to expand your existing volumes (LUNS UAT or logic of PRODUCTION unit number).

  • Installation of SAS drives in Precision 690

    Hello

I have a bunch of 10 k Fibre Channel SAS drives and I'm trying to install in a Precision 690. They seem to have connectors with 40 pins at the rear, a model example is the Seagate ST3146707FC.

Is it possible to do? If If you could point me in the right direction in terms of what parts I might need. According to the manual, it can support 4 SAS and SATA drives, so I would use a SATA and SAS together potentially 4 drives.

    Thank you.

    Hi Hierchon,

It is not possible to directly connect the Fibre Channel interface 690 PWS.

These CF disks a SCA2 aka SCA40 connector and SAS uses a 32 as SATA connector.

In order to use the FC disks, you need some type of housing CF or SAN which would then connect to the PC via a FC HBA.

The SAS cable is necessary to attach a SAS drive to the PWS690 is identical to the SATA to the motherboard, but in training, data and power connectors are gathered.

The PWS690 has two controllers. The ports labeled SATA go to the regular Intel SATA controller and take only the SATA drives. The ports labeled HD_0, etc, go to the SAS5 integrated RAID controller which will have SAS or SATA.

I hope this helps others with these issues since this question is 9 months old. :-(

  • Satellite A500-19 x: no lighting and modem driver for Win 7 required

My laptop died so I tried to re - install windows 7 and all the drivers for it.
I could not install the modem driver (?) and therefore can not access internet from him.

In addition, the buttons above the keyboard light is no longer lit.
The taskbar are a nasty gray instead of translucent.

I don't know much about computers and would appreciate any advice :)

    Hello

The light for the buttons is called Illumination.
You can enable or disable in the BIOS settings.
Turn on the computer and press F2. Here, you will find the option of enlightenment.
Enabled, save the changes and restart the device

The A500-19 x belongs to the series of Satellite A500 PSAR3E.
I checked the European driver of Toshiba page and there is a 2.2.97 for Win 7 64 bit modem driver

  • PS6210X with 24 1.2 TB in RAID 50 SAS drives, how RAID 5 sets?

We have a PS610X with 24 discs of 1.2 TB SAS (10,000 rpm, model HUC101212CSS600).

The unit is currently configured in RAID 50 and has two parts. How RAID 5 sets are configured in fact? Is - this 2 x 11 or 2 x 6 + 2 x 5 or something else?

Is it still considered safe to perform this configuration in RAID 50, or are we better off the coast of conversion to RAID 6?

    Hello

The 6210 X creates two RAIDsets.

The suggestion of using RAID6 is 7200 TPM NL - SAS become increasingly large, rebuild times are multiplying so.  That widens the window of vulnerability for a double error condition is another drive that RAIDset must fail.   However, with disks SAS 10 K / 15 K being so much smaller that window is still a bit small.

That a lot depends on your needs.  I prefer R6 on R50 with a 6210 especially since there support the unloading for the calculation of parity.  To reduce the overhead costs of double parity.

Good thing is that you can convert into R6 at any time of the R50.

If you have installed SANHQ you can review your load, then use the RAID evaluator to see if R6 will always be you provide write IOPS / s you need.

    Kind regards

Hi, I installed the H730p in the server R630 RAID, but the SAS cables from the drive before A & B bays to connect to the main Board and having no game in them to connect to the RAID card.

I guess I need new cable SAS, but can't find any reference to this anywhere... Do I new cables and what are the numbers of reference please?

    Talleysit,

Indeed, you need another cable. The required cable is part # F63HD.

    Hello

I have a r.620 with a H710 Mini Raid Perc.  I currently have 3 1 than TB SATA drives in a RAID 5 configuration and need more disk space.  Unfortunately, I have the bottom of basket, which only supports up to 4 drives.

I tried to replace the disks with 3 2 disks SATA of TB, but blocked watch RAID controller.  I put the 2 the original 1 the 2 TB drives to see what shows OMSA and 3 disks in.

OMSA shows not supported and the size of the disk is showing 232 GB instead of 2 TB of suggestions?

I don't know if you already said that, or if you thought about it. The reason why these commands do not work in your system is because they are readers of formatted 4Kn.

P710 series controllers don't support of 4 Kn.

There is a work around, but get this info from Dell is going to be almost impossible. (They want buy you your discs at home).

  • Cannot remove HARD disk configuration PERC 6i with use of the SAS drives foreign. Existing data are not important. Scratch reloading to redeploy the server.

Dell Poweredge 2950 III with serial number note from the Admin: have the label removed according to the TOU > receipt readers traded since an identical poweredge almost eliminated. In the configuration of the PERC controller 0 6i utility, disk groups show as foreigners. Messages following the procedure to import the configuration, then remove before was not effective. The prior configuration appears in the menu.

I would like to simply clean configurations of VD for the readers and the controller. After it is deleted then next step is to set up a configuration I want. My new Setup is not relevant for this post. The goal and the only question is how to clear existing shared disk configurations.

VD0 clear addition to figure 2 SAS PD/hard drives as virtual disk unique. RAID levels 0, status is offline, SMART status not = no error, County VD = 1, PD = 2 count, operation = none

    Is a similar to VD0 VD1

    other berries are currently empty.

For initial troubleshooting I have removed all the HARD drive except a single disk on the server. This disc shows also as stranger.

In the PERC 6i config utility:

VD MGMT doesn't show CONTROLLER0 - no configuration is present. Choice of the F2 are Config. Foreign config based on availability. (Create new VD and manage preserved Cache are greyed out) Right pane of the screen indicates "foreign Config present, controller prop.: DG = 0, County VD count = 0, County of PD = 1".

PD MGMT shows only the formatted Mo 139 K SAS single, foreign = State, SMART status not is no mistake, operation = none

VIEW FOREIGNERS shows DG0 = foreign, Virtual disk 255 with DG count = 1. County of VD = 1, County of PD = 1

I installed 3 of the disks individually rotating as a single HARD drive with similar results.

WITH 2 HDD SAS installed only difference is VD Mgmt shows County DG = 0, County VD = 0, County of PD = 2.   View foreign shows VD255 prop: Raid 0, Raid = foreign status, size = na, operation = none. | Disk prop group. : VD Count = 1, County of PD = 2, Ded HS = 0 (because it does not exist).

Thanks Chris. Problem is solved. I would like to Flash the firmware as precautionary measure? Still confused why initial in the VD Mgmt tab procedure has failed.

All readers of Restore tab PD-ready state.

  • USB HDD TRAY 1, 5 t: = red light drive lights works very slowly

    Hello

It is brand new USB STORE 1, 5 t 3.5 "disk.

Drive normally begins with the red light, initialize and move to blue light. Initially drive works slow - flashing blue when something happens.

... but after a few minutes of use, red light may turn on a moment (for e.g. when new folder is created or some files are copied - then drive works very slowly - it appears when you copy).

After a few seconds, record going to the blue back light - and everything is OK until the switch next to the red.

    1 is this normal behavior?
    2. What is the meaning of red light when the drive is working?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

I m no owner of this HARD but I have a theory.
According to your information, I think that the red light only appears if data would be written to the HARD disk.
The blue light appears during the reading of data from the HARD drive.

  • Satellite A300-1IW: HARD drive access light blinks every second

Hello everyone, and sorry for the English, I'm french :)

I bought a Satellite A300-1IW a few days and suddenly (don't remember exactly when) early light access HARD drive blinks every second and it continues even after several reboots!

It does so only with Vista; I checked the disk with 'diskmon' activity and I saw that even if it was * no. * disk * written * or * reading * the led continues flashing, so I think that it is not bound to certain services of vista (superfetch, indexing...)

A similar problem, I saw on a Microsoft support, but it was under windows 98 and with old motherborads!
    See: link: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138598]

So it seems that it is related to level Vista SCSI or DVD...

I have now is not critical, but it's annoying to have this led flashes all the time

You have an idea? Don't you think that it could be related to bios? I want to be sure before touching it, because it is always tricky.

    Thanks for your help

In my opinion, nobody can offer no comment because you already gave the answer. There is nothing unusual and certainly no reason to panic.

What do about it? What you want to do? Sorry, but this is a really stupid question. I can just offer you a stupid answer. ;) Take black tape and curl up the LED. ;)

  • Intermittent hard drive looking for the light. White screen.

My Pavillion Office refused to start today with light orange hard drive "will not blink" in the quick flicker even way while trying to start.  Its flashing for a longer period with a consistent pace of about one and a half seconds per blink.

I removed the hard drive from the system one enslaved in another Pavilion and it worked fine, I reinstalled the memory of the original machine and reconnected problem persisted.

I would appreciate any recommendations on the resolution of this grace.

Thanks for the reply, but I solved this problem. A memmory in the system module has been damaged possible overload of dllhost.exe. I I removed the module and the system now boots normally.

  • Please help with the problem of driver SAS S10 6483

I'm going crazy and I hope someone here can help.

I am trying to load Windows 7 on a 6483 S10 which has a SAS hard drive.

During installation, the system does not see the drive and ask for a driver.

I can't find a SAS driver for windos 7 anywhere.

Can someone help me understand this?

    Thank you!

    Bill

    Thanks, Erik

It turns out that when I opened the box, it doesn't have a SAS drive, as I said.

She and its a SATA drive or the computer is defective. IF its of not coming back.

I was also told that Windows 7 will not work with it that seems hard to believe.

I was led on a chase of wild goose by the seller.

    Thanks for your help.

  • You can mix SAS and SATA drives in a RAID 1 PowerEdge T110 II configuration

    Hello

I have a RAID 1 configuration and one of the two drives in the array has failed.  I've removed and replaced by another drive hoping the Dell Perc adapter H200 would rebuild the mirror automatically, but it does not.  In Server Admin OpenManage virtual disk displays as degraded.  The issue I think may be the replacement drive is SATA where the original was SAS.

Is there a way you can make the adapter accepts a SATA drive or is it simply not supported?

    SIV

    Hello.

Dell controllers, including the H200 are not supported mixing SAS, SATA or SSD in the same table. They may, however, each separately constitute a virtual disk on the same controller. Consider replacing the disk failing another identical or higher capacity SAS drive.
