No maximum. to start an ASM instance can have?

Hi all

I'm using ORACLE RAC 11 g. Y at - it no maximum number. instance can have a start an ASM?

My understanding is that an ASM file can grow up to the maximum value of 128 to. If you combine the size of all starts, which are hosted on an ASM instance then it must not cross this limit of 128 to. and for this reason there should be no limit to the no. of starts. The limit should be for the size of all starts hosted on an ASM instance.

iI means to say if we had 500 kids starts so we can host all the on the instance ASM provided they do not exceed the limit of 128 to set. But if we are diskgroup only one that is 128 TB then only, we can create unique Diskgroup.

Thank you

You should check [this document | http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/asm/pdf/11gr1%20asm%20new%20features%20wp%2005-2007.pdf] or [link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b31107/asmdiskgrps.htm#CHDCGGED]. You can have a maximum of 63 ASM disk groups. 128 to is the limit of the data for a bigfile tablespace file, but you might have more than 1 of them in your database. This limit has nothing to do with the DSO, it's a thing of database (and similarly for any other storage option).

now when I check the view v$ instance, he indicate the State of instance asm as "STARTED", but not mounted? Is there a reason behind this?

Likewise, I checked to export a database and brought to

ASM instance can start without any file parameter. To create the spfile, use:

    SQL > create spfile from memory;

All you have to do is to restart the surviving node. She's. Read your first post please check if eth1 is running.

By the way: eth1 cannot be the interface... vip vip interfaces like eth1: '0' - they are virtual interfaces. I´d guess eth1 is your
cluster of interconnection... If it's not available (regardless if the other node is still available or high) will refuse the ASM instance
    to start.

But as I have found your answers here tried to drop the node crashed so uncontrolled, which makes it worse?
If so there is a high possibility you messed up your configuration. But i´d start by checking your interfaces. If this is not
help I recommend opening a SR with Oracle.

    Hello

I have two RAC nodes in the program of production installation and test setup. OCR and voting disks (vd) are in ASM, I can stop the ASM instance?

    -Kumar

    Hi Kumar,

    No, we can't.

Best practice is that you need to stop the battery Oracle Clusterware on the node on which you must stop the Oracle ASM instance.

Use "crsctl stop cluster node_name - n" or "crsctl stop crs" for this purpose.

    It could be that useful...

  • Start & stop an instance RAC

    Hello

I just created a 2 node 11 GR 2 database RAC, traditionally from databases not CARS I would just use sqlplus to start / stop the instance

Q1. What is the recommended way to start / stop an instance in a RAC environment? Do you use a cluster to do command, or is sqlplus is acceptable?

Q2. If you use sqlplus and more to stop an instance on a node, I presume that the cluster services is NOT as a failure and so don't try to restart the instance?

Q3. similiarly what is the best way to start / stop a listener on a particular node?

    any help appreciated

    Jim

    Hello Jim,

Q1. What is the problem with the status not reflected in the output of clusterware resource? Is it to do with the ability of Services to acknowledge a failure and restart the CLuster service?

Response: The resource database is not parsed by SIR and if the database suddenly stops then none will try to restart the same.

Q2. Regarding the automatic closing of a database in a CCR environment (as opposed to the manual method which I asked on-) if I simply turn off the cluster nodes of my will which in turn stops the Instances and close the database RAC itself (when the last Instance is closed)?

For even if I turn on my knots, the first node start cluster, its instance and open the database?

Answer: well, if you turn off your server then of course the database and stop anything else running on the server. When the server is under tension and if crs autostart is enabled then the clusterware stack will come with the server

Q3. What is the difference between a Service and a resource of the cluster? Are the database, earphone etc services or resources? I'm just trying to understand why SVRCTL is used to manipulate the database and listener and not say CRSCTL?

Answer: You can configure a service which is part of tree resources of database and the resource database is a parent for the same thing. Services are used to connect to the database. Database, (if added) services, asm, listener, scan etc are all the resources of the clusterware, which are monitored by the clusterware.

You can refer to the Oracle documentation, which will give you more insight on these details

  • How to take database backup ASM/Instance?

    Hello

I'm new with ASM. We take ASM/instance of database backup.

can we have the idea to backup ASM?

    1. what components should be saved as database/Instance ASM / ASM all files?

    Please do the needful.

    Thank you
    Nitin

    Hello Nitin,

First of all, you must understand that the RDBMS & ASM instance is different but yes, both are running on the same computer.

ASM includes essentially two things: ASM instance (1) and the storage of the DSO (2).

    (1) ASM instance
    ------------------------

That's just an instance when we do not backup but Yes if you want to keep the ASM instance configuration file then just follow these steps:

    [grid@host01 ~] $. oraenv
    ORACLE_SID = [+ ASM1]? + ASM1
The basic Oracle for ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/11.2.0/grid is/u01/app/grid

    SQL > create pfile='/home/grid/init+ASM1.ora' of spfile;

    Created file.

    (2) ASM STORAGE
    -------------------------

-Storage ASM includes essentially ASM starts, namely new set of disks.

-Whenever we do not create ASM diskgroup diskgroup contains still three things:

    (a) disc ASM
    (b) models and metadata
    (c) the ASM files (essentially datafile or all database files)

-We take backup of two things on three things in ASM diskgroup:

    (1) ASM files - with RMAN because these are files of database.
    (2) ASM diskgroup models & metadata - with the MD_BACKUP of ASMCMD command.

Now, MD_BACKUP will create a backup as your specified location file and this file will includes all models and metadata of the diskgroup. Benefits of taking diskgroup metadata are, if we lost the diskgroup, so we do not worry some details configuration command MD_RESTORE use to recreate the diskgroup with the same configuration. But remember that it does not restore the data file or any other file that was there on the diskgroup going to use RMAN to restore the missing files.

    See the example:

    ASMCMD > lsdg

State Type sector Rebal to Total_MB Free_MB Req_mir_free_MB Usable_file_MB Offline_disks Voting_files name of the block

  • Problem setting up ASM instance

    Hello

Successfully, I installed the clusterware and database and installed patchet 10.2.0.2 on node 2 CARS (new installation).

I tried to configure ASM using DBCA but I get this message that makes no sense because it is a RAC:

«The ASM instance configured on the node local ia s one-time ASM.» To manage this instance as a single ASM instance, restart DBCA Wizard and select the option of one-time database. To manage this instance as a RAC ASM, convert it to a CAR first. »

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thank you
    Robet

    Hello
As you can see there no ASM is registered with RAC. If you are unable to use DBCA fot its, you immediately connect to ASM on the node where it is running and close.

    export ORACLE_SID=+ASM1

     sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

    shutdown immediate

Delete the password file and the file init of ASM and its entry to/etc/oratab.

Now again to start over and create a RAC database during which it will also create RAC ASM instances for you. I don't have CARS now, so I'm sorry I can't tell you the screens.

  • Migrating existing Oracle 10.2 - ASM Instances at 11, 2 - ASM for Cluster

    Hello

I have autonomous bases on a RH Linux 5.4/X 86-64, their data files are on 10, 2-ASM-starts.

Now, I'm trying to migrate these ASM starts at 11, 2-ASM-starts with Clusterware to later build a RAC system!

    My problems:

1 / use YES I cann't "install grid infrastructure. for a Cluster", because there is an ASM Instance.

2 / use "Upgrade grid infrastructure." I can only pass the ASM instance to standalone Server.

    My Questions:

1 / do I have to use the option "Install grid infrastructure. SW only?

    2 / I did all this trouble?

    I appreciated all the help.

    Hello
the problem is that you have an installed Oracle ASM + autonomous system (which itself has a deamon running crs/css).

Therefore, when you install grid infrastructer YES detects a single ASM node and will not allow you to directly install GridInfrastructure for a server, because it will take a cluster of crs daemon version.
If you can do an upgrade of stand-alone server.

Software only installation will help either, because it expects to configure an ASM 11.2 instance and will fail.
I doubt that Oracle has already thought about upgrading one node ASM to an ASM clustered in the same step, during the upgrade.

However what you could do is 'Unconfigure' the demon of local crs and ASM stop.
Then you can install the network for a cluster Infrastructure.

    So:
    -closing of database/earphone etc.
    -stop ASM

    Do a:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/localconfig delete

to remove the local configuration of crs/css

    This should also remove /etc/ocr.loc

Now you should be able to install IM 11 GR 2 for a cluster.
Note that you will need additional disks and name diskgroup additional for ASM diskgroup clusterware files, since you don't want to replace your existing diskgroup data...

If IM is running, asmca should be able to pick up starts already existing DSO.

For more information on the localconfig delete see here:

When I start Windows Mail I get this message.

    {Windows Mail could not be started because another instance of it is still running on your computer.} Please log off of Windows, and then restart Windows Mail. If the problem persists, save your work and restart your computer.}

I'm trying to find the instance that is running, but I can't find anything running. I have to restart my computer to make it work.

Can someone tell me how to solve this problem?

You can disable individual startup items in a selective way and eventually found the culprit.  If you have Windows Desktop Search installed, go to control panel | Filtering options and disable indexing WinMail.  Also, if you have a mail gadget in the sidebar, remove this.  Antivirus software can also screw up things, seewww.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
