I typed a word in the search box and results list the files that I was looking for.  But also displayed are backup files I had created in December, copied to my hard drive external and then deleted from my PC.  When I looked in the properties file, it said they were in my user folder. Hi Chrisana!

No problem. In Vista, choses things are a little different. Your problem is probably caused by the index not updated. The index is updated in the background, so I would check now to see if, in these last days the index has been updated and files of "shadow" will no longer appear. If the problem is not resolved, rebuild your index manually. It is a process in three easy steps.

    1. Open Indexing Options from the control panel or by typing "Indexing Options" in the search box of the start menu.
    2. Click the Advanced button. If you get a UAC prompt on the rise, click to allow.
    3. Click the Refresh button.

Once the reconstruction starts, you can click OK/Cancel out Indexing Options. He finished in the background. Note that this may take some time to complete, I suggest to leave it before leave you for the day or head to bed. Otherwise, your computer may start slow as you try to use it while indexing happens. This is why the reindexing takes place in the background, normally.

    Good luck!

  • When I click on the start menu, I can open one of the programs listed, but cannot open the Documents, computer, Control Panel, or whatever it is on the right columnetc.

Well they open but block minimsed on the taskbar lower... cannot be opened. However, if I try and access the Documents or any other object through a program for example, open Word, then documents... or attach a file to an email everything works fine... Thus, the folders are there are fine, just cannot be opened directly... Clues!

Your problem could relate to Associations of files, namely the right program is offered and used to open the file...

You may need to show hidden files. Type the Folder Options in the search box above the Start button and select view advanced settings and check that the box "display files and folders" and 'Hide protected operating system files' are not checked. You may need to scroll down to see the second element. You should also make sure that the box before "Hide extensions of known file types" is not checked.

In Windows Explorer, note the file of your selected file extension. Right-click on the file and select open with. Note the recommended program and view the details, including the extension of file here.

  • How to remove the search box in the Windows 7 Start Menu?

I'm a guy from keyboard. Encoder, mudder. Therefore, I prefer my Start menu for user-friendly keyboard, which includes the removal of the search box as the focus of pigs. I can't find this option in the control panel to the taskbar and Start Menu. I lack, or it is impossible to get the classic Windows, looking for the start menu?

I forgot on the thing... If you want to remove the search box, try this: start > Control Panel > programs > Turn Windows features or disable > uncheck Windows Search

    ...

I said that you can press Tab... wrong... you must press SHIFT + Tab.

    ...

About to express my opinion - there is a simple reason why I do this. Some time ago, someone asked how to remove the search box, and it received no response for a few days. After that, I found this option, how to remove... When I said on this subject after a few days, I heard that this person used to this new feature of Windows and now it will keep it. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong... this system differ only from XP... so we have to try to learn something new and check after a few days we don't like this solution more than the previous.

    ...

I wonder why write you in commentary edition which has pasted the link almost not worth it. You will get exactly the same behavior of Menu start as in Windows XP. I thought that you, like this old solution... "Pinning just something that mimics the classic style"... No... you have clicked on the first link... you should read more prudent. There was also another. But even if you have selected the first solution with menu PIN... I guess you don't know that you can run all the pinned programs by pressing the Windows key + number... for example, WinKey + 1, so that each action is made without a mouse.

  • In Windows 7, after the application of SP1, I can no longer access my phone book from the start menu or use the search function.

I just applied SP1.  Until I applied this update that everything worked as I expected.

Since then, whenever I type anything in the search on the start menu, there is no result.  The only exception to this is that if I type in a full path, for example "C:\Program Files\", how I get a list of files in that directory.  If I type in everything that is not a path, as for example the letter p or the word 'paint', told me that "no element not corresponding to your research."

If I click 'more results', I get an error with a big red x box.  The legend is "search query: = paint", for example if I searched for painting.  The text is "Windows cannot find ': search query = painting '.»  Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. "I wasn't expecting this error box, but rather a window with a list of search results.
I have downloaded and run the troubleshooter of research - Mats_Run.search.exe.  It tells me that no errors have been detected and gave me the option to reset the search.  I did this, then waited a whole day to search for re - index, but the results are the same.
In addition, after reading a few other questions on the microsoft Web site, I've done different things which seem to as they should not work - I have turned me folder, active random registry settings options, etc..  Indeed, none of these things had an impact or shows something unusual.
Also, I can access is no longer my home directory from the start menu.  If I click on my user name that appears in the upper right corner of the menu start, the start menu closes and nothing happens.
There are a few other circumstances where I can't reach my directory.  For example, if I have an Explorer pointed toward a library, say "Downloads", if I click on my user name in the breadcrumb path, he will remain in the directory downloads instead of going to my home folder, as I expect.  Also, if I click on my user name in the Favorites list in the left pane of the Explorer, I would expect the Explorer window to access my home folder.  Instead, he remains in the folder where he currently resides.
As I said earlier, before applying the update it worked as expected.
Thanks a lot for your time!

How can I get the usual box of options?

Hello viewerx. C: \USERS\OWNER is always the default value in Windows Vista or later, even if you change it manually. You try to perform a file system check? If so, the command is "sfc/scannow" without the quotes.

How can I remove windows box office and upcoming facebook in the start menu

I moved your question answers feedback to Windows desktop and personalization areas.

You care to offer up what version of Windows, you are talking about but if it's Windows 7, I would right-click on the offending list and either:

    1. Remove from this list , is that the entry is in the most recent lower part / area most often used.
    2. Delete the Start Menu if the entry is pinned in the Start Menu (above the most recent / most often used).

    Hi Ken_978,

    ·         How long have you been faced with this problem?

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         The question is only limited to Office applications?

    ·         What exactly happens when you try to open an Office application? You receive an error message?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: I suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malware

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: While running scan on the hard drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when scanning try to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.

Method 2: If this does not help then you can uninstall and reinstall Windows search 4.0 on the computer.

Follow the steps below to uninstall:

    a. click on Start

    b. click Control Panel

    c. select Add / Remove Program

    d. place a check on "Show updates"

    e. you will see Windows Desktop Search 4.0 and uninstall it.

Reinstall back, you can see the link below:
