  Now, if the hard reset does not work, you will need to update the Audio drivers (Realtek High definition (HD) Audio Driver) on the HP site.

  Once you arrive at this page of your product type # in (if you don't know what your product is # or when it is on the laptop, here is a video that will show you exactly where to find ) > search click > select the option 'Software & Driver Downloads' > choose your operating system (not sure what operating system you have or where?) ( This should help out you) > then click after selecting operating system > scroll down and click on the + (plus) next to "Audio driver" > and then select the most recent version by checking the date on each download > then run.  Now test the sound after installation.

  Also, please try to use Recovery Manager to reinstall the IDT HD Audio Driver If the steps above do not work. How to use the Recovery Manager to reinstall the drivers and software is detailed in the document below.

  The last step to do if you get always no sound at all is a system restore to when you know the sound worked and do not download the last updated after that.

  I recently had problems with my Dell Inspiron 9400/E1705 (vista 32-bit windows operating system). I couldn't get a USB microphone to work and I decided to update the sound card driver. I downloaded and updated what I thought, it was the right driver (sigmatel high definition audio codec) and since there is no sound from speakers. I followed the guide from Dell troubleshooting and disconnect any external devices and then click right click the mixer volume in the system tray, and then clicked on "open volume Mixer" and I get the message: no audio device installed.   I suggest the following, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2, each should result in a message to your BB to come):

  (1) registry HRT
