  Thank you, but I had already checked the stuff related to the sound and figured out that the problem had to do with the plugin Adobe Flash Player (aka Shockwave Flash). I finally solved it by uninstalling Flash Player (using a special tool is downloaded by Adobe), the deletion of a bunch of files created by Flash Player in various locations on my computer and reinstall Flash Player.   Since upgrading to Firefox 23.0.1, I noticed that I had intermittent problems with no audio in Youtube videos. I've since discovered that, if I go on youtube for a video, there is no audio.   OK, yes the title of the topic is not entirely clear. Here's my situation: I just bought a Toshiba Satellite L300 with Vista; Realtek HD Audio Manager is installed.   On Windows XP, you used to be able to record the sound of the stereo mix, but put the speakers on mute and it would record again. Now I find that I have to turn my speakers in order to record anything on my computer. (Yes, I fiddled with all mute buttons, insured that all reading and recording devices are working and front volumes. My current solution is to plug my headphones on my laptop and to reactivate the sound from the speakers to register... and not put the headphones in my ears)

  I have now spent in the last 4 hours looking for a solution, and I must say it's especially ridiculous. I used Vista before and I've heard rumors of how many people hate, but honestly, how is it that now the audio capabilities seem to be reduced?

  I also recorded the audio of a video file using another software called 32. and Win XP
  I also used the stereo mix, but to be honest I have never muted the speakers while recording.
  To be honest I n don't know if it's possible, but if you want to test, you can try the Realtek HD audio Manager in the access panel and set the speakers to cut on the first tab called speaker.
  But as I said, I've never tested and that's why I m not very good if it will work.

  I use a Windows 7, and I have a camera "Canon PowerShot SX210 IS." I want to make a simple movie in Windows Live Movie Maker, and after that I imported the video from the camera to Movie Maker, there is no sound at all.

  You don't say what software you use for your emails, but you must first download and save to your PC/laptop any sound file attached to an e-mail. Then you can play them.

  I have windows 7. A couple of days, I went to play youtube videos and they all shake from left to right and go at different speeds (very erratic). This ONLY happens with videos from youtube (HTML5). When I play other videos(non-HTML5), they play very well. Also, the sound on youtube videos are fine, only they do not match the mouth (s) of people talking. The mouth move faster. I've checked all my plug-ins and everything is up-to-date. My firefox browser is also the last version. I did a malwarebytes scan and it came up with nothing. All the settings on the youtube videos are also where they should be. It happened for about 5 days. Can someone help me?
