None of the "tiles" in my Windows 8 start menu work, they maximize a fashion icon full screen or just stop back on the desktop

Helllo all,.

Last night I upgraded to Windows 7 to Windows 8, everything seams to be fine work (faster, more fluid, etc.), but none of the tiles work in the start menu of Windows Store, that is to say, weather, maps, etc. When I click on "all apps" it will load installed programs however.

My account is an administrator, I have switched between what it is a "local" and linked to my account 'live' account and neither worked, here are the specs of the system;

Sony VAIO laptop computer S

Intel i5 processor

6 GB OF RAM

Drive HARD 512 (not an SSD)

1080 p 15.5 "screen (1080 res @ 60 Hz)

NVIDIA 640 M GPU (2 GB RAM) - it's currently "always you" rather than move to the Intel HD 4000 (I tried two cards, or worked).

Thanks for the help.

Kind regards

JO

I was able to diagnose the problem with agent suspicious actions of Avast turning just stuff the individual parameters, one by one.  After I found the root of my problem was Avast I checked to see if there was an upgrade.  There was.

I updated Avast and the problem behavior shield now seems fixed.  In other words, I don't have to turn off the setting that I listed above for the tiles to work.  So I recommend to people is to update Avast and see if it solves your problem.  If this isn't the case, then turn off the settings that I mentioned, or disable Avast altogether.

I sincerely hope one person MS is reading this thread and can transmit this information to their support people.  Avast is one of the most downloaded programs to Vista & 7; There is sure to be thousands of people with the same problem.

Great, you're saving just a lot of time and grief... Avast was my problem too.

Thank you!

original title: windows 7 start menu - display as a menu broken

When you customize my Start menu in Windows 7, I chose to 'Display as a Menu', as many items as I could.  It worked well for a while, but now is broken. Now, if 'Display as a Menu' or "Display as a link" is chosen, I have to click the item to open it.  I tried to change it back in 'menu' to 'bind', I tried choose "display only" and then back to "view in the form of a menu, I rebooted. I changed the delay of menushow definition in the registry by default 400 for as little as 20.  All to nothing does not.  Any ideas?

FYI for those who might encounter the same problem... found an easier solution.  I just put the menu start failing. The button is at the bottom of the start menu.

  • How to rebuild the Windows 7 start menu?

Having had a virus and deleted successfully, I find myself with a strange problem.

The virus, among other things, seems to have changed the menu start removing the 'pinned' programs is not a problem, but also remove the contents of the folders in "all programs", for example under "Microsoft Office" is a subfolder called "office tools" (empty), but nothing else.
All programs are always there and the work that they are not available on the start menu. There must be a way to rebuild this menu without having to reinstall each of the very many pieces of software on the computer.

    Suggestions welcome.

Common to all users start menu is C:\users\all users\microsoft\windows\start menu.
For each menu C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\window s\start user.
By default, these are hidden files.
Open Windows Explorer and create shortcuts, copy, paste etc.

  • Need help with the Windows Vista Start Menu

So, I turned on my computer today and clicked on the start menu, I expanded the tab all programs and was shocked to see that it was empty. Tab Assecories, Extras and upgrades, games, all of them, all tabs have disappeared. Is any way to restore? I don't know how to get to the Defrag disk or cleaning disc or one of these things without it. Help, please!

A plus for you to try.

    It still happens today. Yes?

Why not do a system restore.

Choose 2 days ago, or a date then your list of all the programs worked as your restore point.

An unknown error during system restore 0 x 80070002 (used a different restore point and it worked)

BIOHD 4 error code (this appeared on two occasions however, the computer starts with F4 in the start menu)

There were no additions to the computer for several months, however there was a power outage that shut down computer just before it started.

When the computer starts up goes to the first blue screen when you can press Esc for boot menu, F9 for diagnosis, etc..  The boot then fails and requires a boot disk.

To fix this problem, I used the repair disc and or F8 to access different repair options.  I used the Startup Repair, System Restore, as well as the bootrec /fixboot and bootrec /fixmbr commands.  They have worked to get the computer to start, however, when it came to a reboot I was at square one.  When you use the Startup Repair disk and HD, there would be a report that there are no startup issues or questions start had been repaired but sometimes it would start and sometimes it wouldn't.

If the safe is a restart then most of the time it will restart correctly.  However if the computer is stopped for more than a minute it will not start.

I now start the computer by using the ESC key at startup to the top and enter the boot menu. I then use the F4 key to reset the default start menu and the PC starts and works well. The start menu lists first, second HD DVD and the Real tek DXEB03 D00 as third. (Don't know what this is.)

Any helps resolve this, so I don't have to reset the default start at each start menu would be appreciated.

If you buy a new hard drive, you can order a series of HP's HP recovery disks or a third party provider of third party. There is a registry setting that governs the operation of the Windows key. An automated FixIt and the manual instructions are available in the following article.

  • How to remove the search box in the Windows 7 Start Menu?

I'm a guy from keyboard. Encoder, mudder. Therefore, I prefer my Start menu for user-friendly keyboard, which includes the removal of the search box as the focus of pigs. I can't find this option in the control panel to the taskbar and Start Menu. I lack, or it is impossible to get the classic Windows, looking for the start menu?

I forgot on the thing... If you want to remove the search box, try this: start > Control Panel > programs > Turn Windows features or disable > uncheck Windows Search

    ...

I said that you can press Tab... wrong... you must press SHIFT + Tab.

    ...

About to express my opinion - there is a simple reason why I do this. Some time ago, someone asked how to remove the search box, and it received no response for a few days. After that, I found this option, how to remove... When I said on this subject after a few days, I heard that this person used to this new feature of Windows and now it will keep it. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong... this system differ only from XP... so we have to try to learn something new and check after a few days we don't like this solution more than the previous.

    ...

I wonder why write you in commentary edition which has pasted the link almost not worth it. You will get exactly the same behavior of Menu start as in Windows XP. I thought that you, like this old solution... "Pinning just something that mimics the classic style"... No... you have clicked on the first link... you should read more prudent. There was also another. But even if you have selected the first solution with menu PIN... I guess you don't know that you can run all the pinned programs by pressing the Windows key + number... for example, WinKey + 1, so that each action is made without a mouse.

  • The Windows 7 Start Menu search / indexing nothing works! Tried everything!

OK Ive spent countless hours of research on this question, ive tried many "bugs" that did not work at all. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 - bit Edition and here is my problem:

The search for the Start Menu in windows 7 does not show ANYTHING when I type something to search for. No category, no file, no folder, nothing. The only thing that appears is "See more results" at the bottom and everything else is empty. When I click on "See more results" I get an error saying that windows cannot find the search query

    WHAT IVE TRIED:

Ive tried to rebuild the index - always says 0 indexed items and NEVER changes, Ive tried to manually change the location of the index, same result

Ive tried deleted manually the former location of the index, stop the search function, from the search function (both in the options and in regedit), restart the computer and still nothing.

Ive tried Backing removed all find Regkeys, stop manually search in the command prompt, location of the Delete index into the command prompt, restart the search function in the command prompt.

Ive tried to do an in Place Upgrade / repair installation of Windows 7 but he's always said his failure and returned to my current installation of WIN7

Ive double checked to ensure that all my regkeys have the correct values and I have all the correct regkeys

After all that, nothing WORKS STILL! -Yes research is Active, yes the file indexing and drive is chosen correctly, and yes the Search Options for files and folders ARE set up.

Ive seen 3 other emails of Micrsoft argue that users have posted, some people say it arranges, it does NOTHING for me. I always have this problem.

Please, please help me with this, if anyone can help me, you have no idea how much I appreciate it!

  • I want to go back to the Windows 7 start menu version. How can I do?

Original title: Windows Start menu 8

I don't like the Start Menu on Windows 8 and want to return to the version of Windows 7. How can I do?

    Hello

Which is actually not so easy... especially if Win 8 has been pre-installed...

You almost buy Windows 7, or reinstall your pre-installed WINDOWS 7 If you have.

Even this may be a trick, because the installation of Win 8 probably messed up the process to make...

If you needed to restore to factory records, you might be lucky...

Another option would be to install something like the classic interface (free) or debut8 ($4.99).

Personally, I use debut8... for the most part, that you will think you are running Win 7 and still have features to win 8 If you want to use them...

I never tried the classic shell because I used a free trial of debut8 first. I decided it was well worth $ 5 and never studied further.

    Hello

Step 1: Install the latest video card drivers. You can log on to the computer for the same manufacturer site. Also, check the latest Windows updates. Check if all related drivers are available in the optional updates.

    Install Windows updates

Step 2: If your driver software update does not resolve the problem, try the video hardware acceleration reduce (or turn off) as follows.

    a. open display settings by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, on appearance and customization, personalization, and then clicking display settings.

    b. click Advanced settings, click the Troubleshooting tab and then click on change settings.

Note that some video card drivers do not allow allows you to change the settings.

    c. move the hardware acceleration slider toward none to reduce or turn off video hardware acceleration.

  • Windows 7 - Start Menu jump list (right)

I'm trying to customize the start menu in Windows 7 to make it usable, however, it seems much more difficult than in the previous version of Windows.

On the right side of the start menu, above the 'Shut Down' button, there are a number of shortcuts for various things.  Some shortcuts such as links for 'My music', 'My videos', 'My images' can be changed to point to the desired files.  Other elements are not so easily changed.

I wish I could add a set of shortcut to this list that are more useful, such as the 'links '.  I have several menu items that I located under 'Links' with shortcuts that go to various programs, etc.  However, there don't seem to be an easy way to actually get the links folder.

I can add the folder and the links to the 'Programmes' section, but it is heavy that I have to click on, highlight, click on to access the menu item that I want to access. -not very friendly.

I tried many solutions already posted, however none seem to get the results I'm after.  Many places, I was able to add a folder, but it simply do not appear in the menu on the right.

Is it possible to customize this area such that I can put a submenu with links program frequently used in it?  (similar to the start menu classic).

I apologize - it is called 'Favorites '.

  • HP Pavilion desktop computer: upgrade to Windows 10 - Start Menu disappeared

I updated July 29 to 10 Windows using the Windows Media authoring tool.  I was very happy with the new system, everything was working fine until 2 days ago the Start Menu disappeared.  I looked for solutions, as it seems a common phenomenon and Microsoft are aware and working on a fix (this problem occurred with a previous version).  The most popular and apparently successful solution is:

Open Windows PowerShell (run as administrator) the Task Manager (as a new task) and enter:

    Get-AppxPackage | % {Add-AppxPackage - DisableDevelopmentMode-register "$($_.)} {"InstallLocation) \AppxManifest.xml"}

This has not worked for me.  After much trial and error I havefound change affected 'Standard' to 'Administrator' account and restart work.  Long term, however.  Someone at - there a better solution?

Thank you. Unfortunately, I was one of those for whom this solution did not work.  The problem turned in my case to be caused by AdAware 9.0 that was included in the upgrade.  He was using a lot of memory and seemed to be blocking updates.  He was not enrolled in a program control panel, so I was unable to uninstall it.  I tried to replace it with the latest AdAware (currently 11.0) to save the program and then can be removed but was not able to uninstall version 9.0 or (AdAware 11.0 seems to cause problems with Windows 10).  I finally managed using Revo Uninstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/ and find the program that even this program has no seeAdAware 9.0 installed programs.  After a complete withdrawal of all remaining files and a few reboots and allowing Windows Update to automatically install updates a backlog of orders, the Start Menu is back.  Problem solved.

  • I get all the programs listed under my program menu on the start menu, but they all show empty and all my programs are in c/programs as it should.

My computer was infested with viruses, Trojans and so had all digitized and clean, but all my programs listed in the start menu there are the EMPTY list.

I have downloaded and run the Microsoft Fixer ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886549 ) and everything is the same.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hi DandyBaron,

    ·         You are not able to access these programs at all, or simply not start menu?

Follow these methods in the order and see if the problem is resolved.

Method 1: Follow the steps and check out them.

    a. open an Admin command prompt window. To open an administrator (high) prompt, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right click Guest and then click Run as administrator.

    b. in the command prompt window, type the following command and press ENTER:

    regsvr32 msxml3.dll

    c. closing session and you connect again to your user account and see if the menu items are displaying correctly.

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

I suggest you analyze your computer Microsoft Safety Scanner, it will help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malware

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Step 2: try the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer.

How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7
