Norton said autochk.exe is corrupt

At the end of a scan of Norton Power Eraser say autochk.exe, a startup item, is bad.  How can I fix autochk.exe?

Hello

http://security.Symantec.com/nbrt/NPE.aspx?lcid=1033

Because Norton Power Eraser uses aggressive methods to detect threats, there is a risk that it can select some legitimate programs for removal. You should use this tool very carefully.

    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.

    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.

3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

You can try an advanced boot options startup repair and check if it helps.

    a. restart your computer and keep pressing the F8 key. This will open the screen that says "Advanced Boot Options".

    b. click on 'Repair your computer' and press 'Enter '. Select the keyboard layout and click "next".

    c. type the user name and password and press the OK"" button. This takes you to the menu"System Recovery Options".»

    d. click on "Startup Repair". You need a few options that the system will suggest. During the boot process, your system may need to restart to make the necessary repairs.

If you are unable to do the repair to start the advanced startup options, and then try to start from the full version of Windows Vista installation disc.

  • HELP: chkdsk.exe file corrupted

I ran a program the other day I was told to run once a week on here to check the virses and after I ran it, I turned off the computer and the next morning, when I turned the computer back on he rode that the chkdsk.exe file is corrupted and then today he rode that one that starts with a j is damaged... and it won't let me download anything to try to fix it so what do I do?

Have you tried the system restore and repair system recommended in my first post?  If this isn't the case, you should do it.

SFC is not finished which means that there is serious on your system corruption - if serious program cannot even fill.

CHKDSK does not work so we can identify or repair damage to the hard drive (and it seems that corruption is the reason why it will not work).

You cannot download files for diagnosis or repair efforts (have you tried in SafeMode with network start-up and pushing the F8 key repeatedly until you get the menu, and then selecting this option?).  There is a hard drive diagnostic program I want you download and run to test the hard drive.  To test your hard drive, check the manufacturer and then get the diagnostic utility of: http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/hard-drive-support/302602-hard-drive-diagnostic-utilities.html.  If she failed the test, replace it.  If she passes the test, then it's probably nothing wrong with it.  If necessary, download with another computer and transfer it to computer problem with a flash drive and then install and run it (if you can - if you can not, after return).

You have a disk for Installation of Windows Vista genuine or only a recovery of the manufacturer of the computer disk (or no disk at all, except perhaps that you could by my instructions to do the Startup Repair and perhaps even restore system - can be done from the disk)?  You have a recovery Partition on your computer with maybe an order of keyboard to activate (and do you know what this command)?  If you do not know the answers to these questions, you can contact your computer manufacturer to get the answers, because it's about the next step in troubleshooting.  If you can get your hands on a real disk Installation of Windows Vista, then that would be great because otherwise, the only option is a clean install, none of us choosing.

We are running out of options.  It seems to me that you have a problem with bad corruption on your hard drive which is the root cause of all these problems.  It's maybe fixable or you may need to replace the drive.  This is the reason for the above - listed diagnosis program check it out.

I look forward to your reply.

    Good luck!

  • Norton said that they have updated their toolbar for ff 27 but I can't enable

Since Firefox updated to version 27 of the Norton Toolbar will not work. I checked and I don't have the latest version of Norton. The Norton site says that they have applied a fix for 27 FF. I have Firefox open and closed several times and restarted my computer several times. What should I do to activate the Norton toolbar?

My Norton IS 2014.6.5.1 toolbar (Firefox 27.0.1). The toolbar had been there & work but now gone instead shows only as "OPEN BOX". The vault is only providing 1 connection sites & I am unable to choose other accounts/connections of the vault. I ran Live Update several times & rebooted PC (WIN 7 Starter) several times. Have also tried to disable reboot which allows you to restart the Norton Toolbar in Firefox. Nothing helps.
ETA: So strange. Less than 1 hour later and the toolbar is without any operation of additional troubleshooting.

  • I get requests to update Firefox, but Norton said that there is a problem

I thought that Mozilla Firefox automatically updated itself when it is used. However, I constantly get a white

When I tried this Norton claims that there is a danger in doing that, so I'll stop.

You probably downloaded the stub installer that needs to download additional files from the Mozilla server and some security software identifies this version as a threat.

You can find the full version of the latest version of Firefox 24.0 in all languages and for all systems operating here:

Download and save the complete Firefox installation program on the desktop and start the installation with a double click on the desktop icon.
