NOT_REACHED d:/build/ob/bora-1379776/bora/lib/disklib/sparseChecker.c:1308

Hey guys,.

I recently copied on my VMs for my Linux installation to my installation of Windows. When I try to turn on one of them, you see the following error:

Fatal error VMware Player: (worker #0)

NOT_REACHED d:/build/ob/bora-1379776/bora/lib/disklib/sparseChecker.c:1308

A log file is available in "C:\Users\filip\vmware\VM_NAME_HERE\vmware.log".

You can request support.

To collect the data to be submitted to the technical support of VMware, run 'vm-support.

We will respond on the basis of your entitlement to support.

and VMware Player goes back to my VM library. What is the problem with my virtual machines (VMware Player) and how to fix it?

I tried to access my Windows partition from Linux (rather than access my Linux from Windows partition) and copy the file again - it works now! Thanks for your help.

    What you write it in? C++, C#? If you're not do whatever it is threaded, then you should be able to get it to some stable level by closing all handles and logout (you think you are, but you are not), so it's a bug in your code. If you do this on multiple threads to several virtual machines, it will not work with 1.6.2 due to known bugs. If you write it in c#, use VMWareTasks and save yourself to treat the headaches with handles - all that needs to be closed is IDisposable.

    Hi all

    Since I installed VMWare, I have had problems with my VM. It crashes about twice a day with the error below. Sometimes, it's a different vthread crashing, but it's still the pollDefault NOT_IMPLEMENTED error. I'm at my wit's end and could use very little help.

    Well, I found myself just switch to VirtualBox instead. Have not fallen since.

    Hello

    My problem is similar to this story:

    http://communities.VMware.com/message/1147470#1147470

    1 problem occurred during the electricity failed.
    2. after the electricity was back I could not start VM - Windows XP.
    Workstation (linux, ver.6) crashed just 1-2 seconds after starting the virtual machine.
    Any registration added to save the file I think because my computer crashed.
    3. I created fresh Windows XP VM and has no drive connected here as
    in the second place, also Workstation is crushed just after the start.

  • VMware Fusion Pro 5.0.1 dies suddenly

    I just upgraded from Fusion 4 to Fusion Pro 5.0.1 on OS X 10.7.5 and seem to be affected by what should have been a bug probably blocking release, because it weakens the App to die.

    In the window of the Virtual Machine library, at the bottom where it shows the space used by the virtual machine, there is a small icon "recharge."  When I click on it, after about 1.5 seconds, the following is written in the console log:

    05/11/12 6:48:07.999 PM [0 x 0-0x21b31b1].com.vmware.fusion: NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/lib/disklib/sparseChecker.c:1291

    ...
    A bunch more is written, mostly cleaning other VMware (vmnet, vmmon, vsock, vmci) modules.
    I tried to search the community forums and haven't seen any mention of this by someone else, which surprises me.  It is always reproducible behavior.
    Also, try to reduce the disk using the recommended 'Clean Up' button seems to weigh to halfway through, requiring a Force Quit to end the application.
    Pointers to patches or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

    Hello dossy,

    The Fusion product manager sometimes read the forums... but I have read the source code, so I take it on the product manager. (Sorry, spb2011.)  Please, trust me on this one.  If the virtual computer is running, your VMDK is corrupted now.

    This failure currently kills the user interface (unfortunately) because the specific type of corruption is very rare and is not something that we can put back easily.  We have not yet implemented the code to display the dire situation for the user.  You are right: we should not kill Fusion for this, and it's something we can implement.  I'll drop an internal bug report to take care of this.

    What I do is what allows you to bypass the part that we have not implemented: once that us to implement, it would likely post a dialog box saying "your virtual disk is damaged in a ugly way, and I don't know how to fix it.", followed by a large part of the same statement that I gave in my previous post : Make sure you have a backup, take a new backup, check the drive host for consistency problems, then try again...

    Why your VM seems to work very well?  Two possible reasons come to mind: when the VM is running, we realize every possible on a VMDK, critical consistency check while performance will the virtual machine.  When you click the button to refresh the information on space use the VM, we take the time to look at records more carefully, so that we find the error of consistency that I describe, which unfortunately brings the app of Fusion to a grinding halt.  The explicit consistency check also covers all of the virtual disk and its snapshots, while corruption in a neighborhood rarely used virtual drive or in its chain of snapshot is not likely to be detected during normal operation.

    I hope this helps!

    To cause the crash I gave an incomplete descriptorfile:
    (Incomplete - well after my own definitions at least - I don't know that if a minimum vmdk descriptor syntax should work with WS 12 has already been documented?
    Anyway - I guess you have to set

    version = 1

    CID = fffffffe

    parentCID = ffffffff

    createType = "VMFS".

    RW 292970496 VMFS "monolithicflat - flat hard."

    ddb.adapterType = "free".
    to be considered as minimal, but valid descriptor for a conversion action. Here, I get a crash if I set only

    version = 1

    CID = fffffffe

    parentCID = ffffffff

    createType = "VMFS".

    RW 292970496 VMFS "monolithicflat - flat hard."

    So it seems that vdiskmanager did not expect to ever see descriptorfiles that don't NOT definde ddb.adapter.
    It can handle a bad value as ddb.adapterType = "aunt-dorothies-favorite-sausage" with a useful error - but the parameter should be set.
    Doesn't really matter if - almost all of the descriptors automatically created should work - manual changes would be the only reason for which I could imagine as a possible reason...

    Maybe your problem is caused by the same similar thing? -fix would be easy to verify anyway.

    # Disk DescriptorFile

    version = 1

    #encoding = "windows-1252".

    CID = fffffffe

    parentCID = ffffffff

    createType = "VMFS".

    # Description of the measure

    RW 292970496 VMFS "monolithicflat - flat hard."

    # The database disk

    #DDB

    #ddb.adapterType = "free".

    #ddb.geometry.cylinders = "18236.

    #ddb.geometry.heads = "255".

    #ddb.geometry.sectors = "63".

    #ddb.virtualHWVersion = "10".

    Red vmdk descriptor crashes with core dump - blue descriptor works.

    # Disk DescriptorFile

    version = 1

    #encoding = "windows-1252".

    CID = fffffffe

    parentCID = ffffffff

    createType = "VMFS".

    # Description of the measure

    RW 292970496 VMFS "monolithicflat - flat hard."

    # The database disk

    #DDB

    ddb.adapterType = "free".

    #ddb.geometry.cylinders = "18236.

    #ddb.geometry.heads = "255".

    #ddb.geometry.sectors = "63".

    #ddb.virtualHWVersion = "10".

    Don't be surprised - I commented several ddb.parameters - for conversion, they aren't necessary, and I wanted to exclude no side effects using the smallest valid selection.

    SSH (Putty) into the host.

    Go to/var/core. You will find the dump files named vmkernel - zdump.x.

    The first part of this file is readable, more party to the end step.

    Look for the the CMTF stack dump it.

    For example, search for BlueScreen.

    Post here the trace.

    Or if you have a screenshot of the purple screen. It's the same thing.

    Note, I've been on 4.2.4 - before kernel 1.2

    After updating, I rebooted and I manually compiled the vmnet and vmmon modules.

    Unfortunately, the two modules do not have to compile.

    In previous versions of the kernel only vmnet module compiled with errors.

    I corrected manually the file vmnetInt.h in the module vmnet as suggested here on the forum and it compiles and loads OK

    I am at a loss on how to manually manage the change in kernel version of 4.3.0 - 1 in vmmon files so that I can get to compile correctly

    Hi James,

    What version of Workstation do you use?  Even if Workstation is not yet officially supported any host OSes with 4.3.0 core I think that this issue should be fixed in the Workstation 12.0.1, so if you're on 12.0.0 Workstation and have not yet upgraded, give that a try.

    See you soon,.

    I tried to convert the machine with vSphere Standalond converter from several machines (running just the customer, not the converter itself). I use version 5.0.0 build-470252 of the stand-alone converter and I am trying to host it on a 5.0.0 ESXi hypervisor 469512.

    Any help would be really appreciated...

    Kind regards

    Hello

    It took me almost a week, but the problem is finally solved!

    In the meantime, I did several tests which I want to mention in order to help others.

    I used a nice backup/cloning tool, called EaseUS ToDo Backup. Who created images of two readers, I have so been able to get back them in the VM to boot with the rescue disk (the CD iso file) EaseUS. Unfortunatelly even that did not help, because I was getting the message "BOOTMGR is missing" at the start of the system.

    So I tried to restore these images to the bare metal on a HP DL380 server. It took several hours to complete that, comparing with the previous trial on the virtual environment, but when it finished I got the same problems. BOOTMGR missing.

    On these two options, I tried to start with support for Windows Server 2008, but I couldn't "see" the disc. Also, it not there no other options repair that might help. I've tried everything. No luck with the Windows Server CD.

    Then I tried to see if I can fix it from the command prompt using the DISKPART command. Unfortunately I could not fix again.

    I was thinking about giving up, but I remembered my motto, that said 'Everything is possible', so I started to think about another way. I thought it might be a good idea to try to search for the problem that I see and not what I believe. I mean the problem started because the conversion went well, but the virtual machine was there. It was migrated into the virtual environment at the end, and finally he just was not able to start. Also, I restored "images" of the physical machine, created with another way, but I always got the same message. So it should not be the conversion itself, but something else that was causing the problem with the trunk.

    After spending some time searching the web for a solution I found here: BOOTMGR is missing in Windows Server 2008 R2

    Start with an image of the DVD Windows 7 x 64 Pro and try to automatically fix problems twice, gave me a c. bootable disk and an operating system of Windows 2008...

    I hope that helps someone else who will be the face of similar problems with a migration/conversion which will give after an error "BOOTMGR is missing".

    I would also like to thank you all who spent time with my problem and posted about it. I really appreciate it a lot.

    Kind regards

  • Converted to a virtual machine (Windows 2003)

    Hi @ all,

    I tried to convert a virtual machine (Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition) since an ESXi 4.0.0 Server for our new Cluster (ESXi 5.1.0). After 2 hours of waiting, the process failed at 1% with ' error: event.» DiskCloneFailedEvent.summary ".

    ESX server and the virtual machine are in the same network.

    Two weeks before I tried the same Conversion, but had to stop due to a colleague, who needs the machine urgently. At the moment the State of conversion was 9% and I think that he would have been success.

    Here are the logs of the converter and I hope, someone can help me with this question:

    Exactly, it's a common error.  It is always recommended to clean the source server if the conversion has failed or been arrested before

    PS: (2, ' No such file or directory ', 'C:\\IP.txt'), perhaps needs c:\IP.txt, not C:\\IP.txt.

    Henry

    This file is put in the package during the installation of the harness. If you skipped this step, it is likely that the IP.txt file was not in the packages of the agent.

  • Problem with Update Manager

    My system is running on VMware vSphere 5.1 (most recent) U1.

    I tried to update the host ESX (host State), but it failed with the error message:

    The host returns esxupdate error code: 15. The package manager transaction is not successful. Check the Update Manager logs and logs esxupdate for more details.

    I checked the esxupdate.log and there are many messages of error as follows. Please help me to identify the problem.

  • My VM was working fine, now I get this error

    OK people, I really hope that someone can help me here.

    I have been using VM Ware on a Windows 7 Ultimate machine for more than 18 months without any problem at all.

    I use the Version of VMware Workstation 7.1.4 build-385536

    The virtual machine is also running Windows 7 Ultimate.

    The problem I have now is that after 5 minutes of starting the virtual machine, it getting hit with this error:

    Operation on the file "C:\Users\User\Documents\Virtual Machines\Windows 7x64\Windows 7 x64.vmdk" failed.

    If the file is located on a remote file system, make sure that your network connection and the server on which resides this disk to work correctly. If the file is saved on a removable medium, link media.

    Choose Retry to retry the operation
    Choose to Abort to terminate this session.
    The choice to continue to pass the error to the guest operating system.

    Retry
    Abandon.
    Continue

    Now my VM is on my local machine, so there would be no problem.

    Second, my VM is just on my C drive, is not on any form of removable media.

    The only option is to click on one of the 3 options above but when click try again, I get this error message:

    Retry:
