I can't see my external hard drive to my computer it see that there is a usb device plugged in, but I don't see in my computer

Hi RotaxaGordon,

  1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
  2. You receive an error message when you connect the hard disk?

Method 1

Check and make sure that the reader has an assigned drive letter using disk management.

To open disk management

(a) from the start menu, click Run.

(b) in the Open box, type diskmgmt.msc, and then click OK.

If its SATA you need SATA drivers to install. Since the XP CD doesn't have the SATA drivers on it

  • HP Pavilion dv9000 - XP does not see the HARD drive, how to install it?

    Hello

I try to install XP SP3 on HP Pavilion dv9000, but XP Setup does not see the hard drive.

Can you please point me in right direction - what I do files and how to add them to the XP SP3 installation CD necessary?

I guess that somewhere there is a step-by-step detailed guide.

    Thank you

Enter the BIOS by pressing F10 at startup. If you have the option of Bios Setup to disable the native sata mode, XP will install without problem, no sata driver needed. It will be on the tab of the System Configuration.

If you do not have the setting in the Bios, it's the driver sata for your machine:

  • not replacing the hard drive on a computer hp laptop with a ssd invalid warranty or care pkg?

Could not find this info anywhere.

I do not see why it would invalidate the it. Just keep the original hard drive to the warranty period and after that do what you want. You can (I guess) increase the RAM or HARD drive under warranty (using products listed under reference numbers in service manuals) so why not swap a hard drive for an ssd? However, the guarantee only covers failures related to the EHR. It won't have a negative impact on the laptop, but I wouldn't call HP customer care first.

  • BIOS does not see the hard drive

For my Presario 6620DK, I bought a Western Digital 160 GB PATA HARD drive, which I want to install instead of the original Samsung SV0602H 60 GB ATA-100.

Unfortunately, bios does not see the new HD. If I'm on the old hard drive, it is recognized by the bios.

I have the jumper in the right position for Cable Select.

What do I have to get new HD work?

    Hi, Arne:

There is the outside possiblilty of the drive is bad.

You have another PC, you can test it in?

You have a 120 GB of HARD drive, you can test in the PC?

If she sees the 120 GB HARD drive and not 160 GB HARD drive, then you have your answer.

  • Tecra S3: Ghost bootdisk does not see the HARD drive to create an image file

    Hello
I have a T - S3 newly installed with all my programs and utilities. Now, I want to make an image of my drive file hard so I have everything set up again. I try to make my image with GhostCast (multicast) but my Ghost boot disk doesn't have a hard drive (as a result of the RAID system?).

Anyone know if there is a back-pilot work for the raid system so that I can boot in Dos and see the hard drive?

  • Professional Windows does not see my hard drive during installation and wants to leave the installer.

installed the new hard drive in my compaq lap top, started the professional windows installation and stops because it cannot find the hard drive. It is in the bios and has passed the tests. My lap top has only a cd/dvd drive, a floppy drive. Not knowing what to do.

It is probably because you have a hard drive Serial ATA (SATA) in your computer.  These drives did not exist when Windows XP came out and so no drivers for this type of disc can be found in a regular Windows XP don't install.  Windows makes allowances for that by inviting you to press the "F6" key at the beginning of the installation process, but then you must provide the SATA drivers diskette (no other medium will do).

"Limited OEM driver support is available with F6 during installation of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003"

There, several articles that explain how to install XP on a SATA drive without needing a disk.  Here are a couple of them:

    Try resetting the CMOS.

If this does not work, I would say that the drive controller in the motherboard is dead.

    DickShirk,

Rather than choosing a network drive, you will need to provide the network path to the system. Here's a thread that is very similar to yours that should help you to solve your problem:
