  I don't get notifications when I sent a message on Skype. Previously, if someone posted in one of my cats, the Skype icon on my taskbar turn orange and display the number. Now if nothing happens, the icon remains the same, as if I never received a message. I have to constantly check through my cats open to see if there is no message. How can I get my notice of return?

  You have corruption of dbx files.
   
  Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.
   
  Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.
   
  In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.
   
  With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.
   
  Compact all folders as described below.
   
  To avoid this in the future:
