NSS 324: Replacement HD + info about RAID 5-> RAID 1

Hello

First of all sorry for my English, I'll try to do my best...

I have a NSS 324 with 4 HD 2 TB (Ref: WDC WD20EVDS-63T3B0 01.0 to 4 HD), the system is configured with RAID5.

(1) when I go to "Disk management" > "Volume Management", then under the title "current disk Volume Configuration: physical disks ' I have this information:

Disc Model Capacity Status Bad blocks scan SMART information
Disc 1 WDC WD20EVDS-63T3B0-01.0 1863.02 GB Loan Scan now Normal
Player 2 WDC WD20EVDS-63T3B0-01.0 1863.02 GB Loan Scan now Good
Disc 3 WDC WD20EVDS-63T3B0-01.0 1863.02 GB Loan Scan now Good
Disc 4 WDC WD20EVDS-63T3B0-01.0 1863.02 GB Loan Scan now Good

I'm intrigued about the status of 'NORMAL' in the column of INFORMATION SMART.  for disk 1... Is this a major problem right now? Should I buy a new HD and replace as soon as possible the first? If so, what type of HD buy? Exactly the same model, or another (with similar connectivity) could work as well?

(2) regardless of what I've written above, is it possible to change RAID1, RAID5 without data loss?

Thank you all for reading and helping.

CIPLL

Hi CIPPL,

Firstly, thank you contact Cisco Technical Support and check if your device is still under warranty we can do for HARD drive replacement

http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/support/Web/TSD-Cisco-small-business-suppor...

If this isn't the case, we have a list of compatibility for the hard disk to NSS324 please visit this link:

http://www.Cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/TD/docs/storage/NASS/csbcdp/smart_stora...

to have a different model of the disk hard is not really recommended, but can it can work.

That offer us

d ' have a backup of the data is necessary if you can not find the same model of HDD.

-Try to have only one of the hard drive listed in the list picked up and trying to replace the hdd1 with a new one and if automatically discover and rebuild the raid we are ok :) if did not please go before having another hard drive 3 and replace the entire hard drive

for HARD drive replacement.

If you want to replace just one disc, so you do not have to reboot or turn off the NSS just replace the old with the new and the NSS will be discovered and rebuild the raid

If you want to replace the entire disk please do one by one up to complete the reconstruction and insert another... without also turning off the NSS in this case we need any backup data

Or

Do the backup data do by default and put all the new drive unit and Raid reconstruction and you can of course in this case change get rid of 5 to 1

Backup of data if you also want to try to have another HARD drive not the same model, because we cannot guarantee 100% positive result

Thank you

Mehdi

  • Replacement of 1064 LSI RAID

    Good afternoon!

We had a brief problem with a RAID 10 that contains the ESXi installation on one of our servers C210 M2.  VMware has "lost" the volume of ESXi.  A restart of the host brought the RAID online, but management had me buy a spare mezzanine on the tray card.  We tested it during an upgrade to ESXi and the card did not react as expected.  We relied on this document to help us replace the RAID.

When we put the map on the server, we expect the card to show and to ask questions about a foreign configuration.  The documentation says that when we saw that to apply the card to import the configuration and to present the RAID set to the operating system.  Card claimed instead it is 'inactive' and verify the configuration by pressing Control-C.  We did it, but since we were on a schedule to upgrade reinsert us the old card RAID, hit the string initialization and then with the upgrade.

The map has been identified by the server and had an update of the firmware to the revision of the 1.4(3x), so I don't think that the card is DOA - I think missing a step or to look for a different document for this card.

My question is about the answer when this card is replaced.  That we will be able to replace the mezzanine card and restore the RAID configuration or do we need to plan to rebuild the RAID config in case of failure of the card?  If we replace and restore what step is missing to import safe RAID configuration so that the mirror breaking and BONE don't freak?

    Thanks for all the research!

    Hey Gregg,.

I checked for some cases of TAC with the same error that your report server, and for all cases, replace the controller raid solved the problem.   I recommend you to prosecute with TAC to review the papers or see if you can get the card replaced.

  • Replace disk in a RAID 6 array

    Hello

I have a PE T610 with controller raid H700, 2 drives in RAID-1, and 6 disks in RAID-6 table. One of the disks in RAID-6 is display of media and other errors. The reader is still online but I have problems with it and want to replace it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should be able to just replace the drive and rebuild automatically.  That said, before you do anything, make sure that your system is fully backed up.  RAID is redundancy - NOT a substitute for a backup current, functional, verified.

  • Adding a replacement disk in a RAID 5 (PERC S300) replacement hot

I scoured through comments and think I have the solution almost, but would confirm or correct if possible.

Have a PowerEdge R310, four 500 GB drives, RAID 5, with one of these defined as Global Hot Spare drives.  One of the spare wheel failed, hot (003) disks has done its job and kept during the RAID.

Put in the replacement drive in and can see it is Ready on physical disks via manage open.  More I noticed that he as a Non Raid virtual drive virtual drives.

I thought it was to automatically rebuild the RAID after the disc has been inserted, but it didn't.  I started to reconfigure it on existing RAID, hoping to choose the new disk and start the reconstruction, but he doesn't see the new drive as a physical drive.  I guess that's because the system has assigned the new drive as a new virtual disk.

I remove the new virtual disk, and then run the reconfigure statement the existing virtual disk of RAID 5 to add the new drive?

I hope this makes sense and I appreciate any help!  Right now my server is in place and very well, but these 500 GB drives are reliable - I lost an another late last year and replaced him.

    SBlades
Thanks for the quick response.  If I already have a spare drive (the one who took over after the failure of the other disk), it will allow me to do the new hot spare?

This player is no longer a "rescue." It is now a member of the array fully operational. You don't have a spare drive. It is also possible to have two hot-spare set.

    SBlades
I run the Reconfiguration on the RAID 5 in Open Manager after the non - RAID VD is removed?

No, Reconfigure will EXPAND a virtual disk, usually by adding a physical drive. So if you have a 3-drive RAID 5, you insert a new disk and run the statement reconfigures, you might reconfigure your 3-drive RAID 5 to 4 drive RAID 5 (is worth a drive to storage space by adding to your table/server) or a 4-drive RAID 6 (essentially a RAID 5 with a disc of relief, but instead of relief being a non-member member - only standyby player - help is integrated with the table as a full member. the RAID array results in an additional parity so that two disks can fail while maintaining the availability of the matrix, rather than wait for a player to fail before starting the reconstruction to become a member of the table; RAID 6 is usually best when using very large capacity disks).

  • Replacing a drive in RAID 5 PERC 5i

    Hello, I have a RAID 5 with three disks 10 k and a 15 k. I would replace the drive k 15 with a supplement of 10 k drive, so that I can use the drive k 15 on a different server.

What is the best way to do it?

    Thank you

    Ken

Force the 15K drive offline, remove, insert the replacement. If the 10 K drive is not automatically rebuild, assigned as a hot spare. If the player is "foreign", you must first CLEAR the foreign configuration before you can assign it as a hot spare. Remove and insert the drive should be made WARM (while the system is running).

  • Satellite P305-S8818 - Question about RAID compatibility

    Hi guys

    Back to Tosh. P305 (S8818) with 2 HDD - mine has 2 * 250G & I admit I bought without just thought! [Kenya $$] Just 2 questions: -.

    (1) - some way that they can be implemented with RAID 1 Setup - H/cherif additions/changes?

    (2) - if not; 250 GB is way more than I need - suggestions as how I could make the best use of the 2nd HARD drive?
I think 2 BONES or copy [say-'True Image'] disc 01 - I think that you guys have a lot more knowledge than me - I hope you can help

If you can; you have my eternal gratitude

    -Best wishes-
    Denis

    Hello

As I'm not mistaken the Satellite P300/P305 series does not support RAID.
There is NO RAID controller, but only the SATA HDD controller!
Therefore, the use of any RAID parameters is not possible!

In my opinion the second HDD can be used as a place for backups. I mean that you can back up your important data and files such as mp3, movies, pictures, etc. on the second HARD drive. I think is not a bad idea because the files stand still the operating system will be too bad and you need to reinstall it on the first HARD disk.

    Welcome them

  • HPE 590 t: replace a drive hard raid 0

My HPE 590 t has 2 hard drives, set up as a pair of RAID 0 disks. One is dead. I used the low level utility to remove the dead from the RAID 0 config reader. Good record is still listed as a disk RAID 0 member. How can I put a new disc, same model, same everything and re-config this new drive as long as the other half of the RAID 0 configuration on the disk is good?

You can not. Once the disks are configured in RAID 0, the data is distributed through them. If a disk goes bad data on the other drive is gibberish. Unless the entire RAID-0 has been saved or put in mirror (in other words what RAID-5 is) then the data is lost. I'm sorry. It is even more important to backup when you have a RAID-0 because you the chance of failure is double what it would be with a single disc.

If all you ask is how to restore the RAID 0 with the new command and the old disk, go into the RAID Ctrl-I utility to start and first remove a player from the table and then restore a RAID 0 with two drives.

    This might be useful:

  • Gendral info about ODI

    Hi friends

Is ODI (Oracle data integration) simillar ETL - Infomatrica ie warahousing of data?
    OR BI (business intelligence)?

I know the Differenct between these three, that I want to learn data integration?
    So, what should I choose

ODI ETL or BI? Please advice?

My skill set is iam good in pl - sql and sql

    Thank you
    Aarasu

A data warehouse can be implemented with any high-level RDM such as Oracle DB. The way in which the data is stored is very different from an operational database. I guess you should read some doc about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_warehouse#Dimensional_vs._Normalized_approach_for_storage_of_data

    You are right:
-ELT or ETL tools are used to load data into the data warehouse. ODI is the ELT of Oracle tool.
-BI tools are used to make the reports/dashboards on the data stored in the data warehouse. OBIEE is the tool of Oracle BI (tool for reporting and dashboards).

If you want to use Oracle products, you must:
    -ODI: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/data-integrator/overview/index.html
    -OBIEE: HTTP://WWW.ORACLE.COM/US/SOLUTIONS/BUSINESS-ANALYTICS/BUSINESS-INTELLIGENCE/ENTERPRISE-EDITION/OVERVIEW/INDEX.HTML
    -Oracle DB: http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/overview/index.html

  • Question about Raid Autodetect ATA and Raid on

I have Dell Dimension E520 Core 2 duo initially provided with 250 GB and Vista. I bought Windows 7 a few years ago but delayed after installation of Windows 7 for one reason or another.

Last week my graphics card developed due to lack of memory, and for some reason Vista disk has become one start rained. I tried all sorts of things, but not luck. At one point, I changed Setup > DISKS > SATA Operation 'RAID ON' to ' RAID AUTODETECT ATA "and continued to install Windows 7 on another drive.

So, the current configuration is as follows:

Disk 0 is 1 TB (Western Digital and includes Windows 7
Disc 1 is the original 250 GB with Vista old (fortunately I still have my intact docs on this subject)
Setup > DISKS > SATA Operation is set to 'RAID AUTODETECT ATA. "

    My question is this:

If I change this setting in the "RAID on" the computer reports the readers and non-RAID and prevents from starting. I want to know what setting should I use for SATA operation. Dell say "RAID on" even if the system has a drive... they claim it gives better performance.

My BIOS is original (circa 2007)

    Thanks in advance

I run raid with an mSata SSD hard drive and a mechanical hard drive. The performance is amazing. I tried my pc without raid performance and you can clearly see a difference.

However, it makes no sense to run raid on a single hard drive. Just makes no sense.

I don't think that Raid will really help with the performance of the two mechanical drives. There might be an improvement, but really is not worth it.
