Old 90's games

How can I the old games like spider-man cartoon maker and former zoo/roller coaster tycoons to run on windows 7? It won't work for me. any ideas?

Hi ajgmaison,

Please specify the year of manufacture of the games and also on what operating systems worked.

You can run games mentioned Windows 95,98, however, I can't promise that these games work in Windows 7.

Use this link to make older programs to run:

Follow the steps in the link to run older programs in compatibility mode.
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

If this does not work, you can download and install virtual PC XP mode and run the games from the 1990s.

Follow the steps from the link:

An hour ago, I tried to install an old CD-ROM game called you don't know Jack Volume 3 running on my computer, a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7.  When I tried to open D:\SETUP. EXE, I received a message stating that the file was not compatible with my computer.  He even asked me to check for 32 or 64-bit and then ask to the manufacturer.

I used the resolution of compatibility issues to restore it to several older operating systems on which it was working before.  But there was no response when I tried to run the program anyway.  The only cure is to use Virtual XP or whatever they call, but I'm afraid that this will change my computer in ways I don't want to see.

I would have contacted games Sierra, who made the CD, but the game is more than ten years and the product is no longer supported.  Does that mean that there is nothing I can do?

  • How to get back my old programs and games after the upgrade to Windows 7?

I just upgraded from Windows XP 32-bit to 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium and I followed the instructions on the Microsoft site. After installation, all my shortcuts were gone and the old programs and games, I had were put into a file called "windows.old". How can I get the programs and games in new windows? I don't want to download and reinstall EVERYTHING I had before.

You need to reinstall... 32 to 64-bit is a change of platform and requires a clean installation. Data are stored in Windows.old

  • can I buy the old Windows 7 games for Windows 8?

OK, I'll leave on the side of all the sarcastic comments on Windows 8, which I hate to date very well. I bought a DESKTOP COMPUTER, and I want the FUNCTIONS of OFFICE, not smartphone, uncompressed, etc.. I went from a perfectly usable in a non-intuitive and cluttered environment Windows 7 environment ridiculously all of a sudden, and I have used all versions of Windows since I made the leap from BACK to Windows 3.1.

    But anyway.
I want the old version of Solitaire and Freecell, the kind that took only a small part of the screen so that you can wait to (for example) or play during boring parts of a Webex (for example) and do not interrupt the rest of what you do.
I read many messages of complaint on this site and the enormous amounts found in a Google search, and I think that Microsoft has the message that people want the old version but so far did not care one iota.
So, can I BUY an old version of games? I'm not interested in free downloads from CNET, etc, they have ads and other junk that comes with free downloads.
I'm not interested in wasting any more time with the dam * "store" "charm".
Anyone know if I can actually buy the old games? A person stands make money from us oldtimers, if so.
Thanks in advance for any advice unless advice that I "get with the new times" and etc. I'm on the 'new time' and I'm not afraid of technology. I WANT JUST THE OLD GAMES REALLY SIMPLE.

Is not obvious because there is no title bar to drag, but you can do as a normal program: just tap the very top edge of the screen and drag and down and each side to snap into place.  The next program you open and then will open in the remaining empty space.

If you have a touch screen, you can use the same movement by dragging it down, from the top edge.

  • Satellite C50-A-1 - game "Star Wars: the old Republic ' is lagging

    Hello

I recently bought a Satellite C series. (C50-A-1 more specficly).
Problem is when I downloaded star wars: the old Republic, the game lags badly.

The graphics in the game are set in the lowest possible to minimize lags and yet I still get them. Here's some info of dxdiag, although they should be known for this type of laptop, I suppose that:

    OS: 64-bit windows 8.1
Processor: 2.13 GHz (2 CPUs) (Intel, Celeron)
    memory: 4096 MB
    DirectX 11

Please help with it as soon as possible thank you

Have you already checked the hardware requirements to play this game smoothly?

C50-A-1 satellite was equipped with an internal Intel HD graphics card.
This GPU is part of the Intel CPU and to be honest, this isn t graphics card designed for purposes of games.

To play games smoothly, you need a laptop nVIdia or ATI graphics cards.

  • How can I play my old (early 90s) focused on the BACK of the games on my Vista PC?

I have all the games strategy games Atomic of the V for victory and the world at war series.  I was able to install, but when I try to miss the DOS command prompt I get the message "this application does not support full screen... Click Close... ».  Is there a way I can run these games?  They gave me hours of entertainment at the time on my good old 486DX2 and now I'm pretty nostalgic for them.  You will appreciate all help!

I think I have the solution you've been waiting for,

To play your old dos based games you must download a program called DOSBOX.
This program will allow your games be played on any version of windows including Vista.

Give it a wirl, and soon you'll be crashing your way through these dos games like never before.

Depending on the platform, so that the game was up, there may be an available emulator that will allow you to run them. Looking for the name of the platform and "emulator" can give results. If they are DOS based games, DOSBox is an emulator like this.

  • Try to install the old game of window 95 on my windows 7...

I have an old windows 95 game called Shivers.  I would like to install on my windows 7, I have home premium.

I tried a lot of things.
I tried to click with the right button on setup.exe/properties and making it compatible with different versions, also tried to have windows try and do it for me.
When I try first to install the game I get the error, not compatible with the 64-bit version.
After fiddling around, it seems now that the game will start to install, the screen resolution goes down and I get a black window, as I have had with other games when they begin to install.  However then goes black screen and I have nothing :(
I do not so much, but I've been looking for this game for a long time, I finally found and bought without thinking that he would not be able to run on my system...
I'm pretty OK with the computer, but when someone answers I need much instruction step by step please.
    Thank you

    (1) it is a 16-bit game and does not work on 64-bit Windows. Reported, it installs and runs with a few minor adjustments * 32-bit XP, Vista and Windows 7 (* compatibility setting: Windows 95, ignore any request for 'system test', set your screen resolution, etc..).

    (2) it MAY be that even a BACK emulator fails to run it because it uses a Sierra-own game engine (SCI) that must be supported, too. It is not included in the list of compatibility of DosBox, and it comes in the ScummVM forums (another emulator BACK) as "pending".

    (3) as a last resort, you can try to install & run the game in a virtual machine. If you have any disk installation for Win 3.1 or Windows 95, the virtual machine would allow you to play the game in the environment he has created. Windows 7 Professional allows you to download a free version of Windows XP Professional SP3 to work with Windows Virtual PC, but use a VM free as MS Virtual PC 2007, VirtualBox, etc. is certainly less expensive (even if you can buy a copy of Win 3.1 or 95).

  • Portege A100 - need new driver for graphics card to play games

I own a Portege A100 and I need to update the graphics controller to play games.

My problem is I went to the Download Center and the latest driver is currently installed in my notebook.
I got this game running before but had my cell reprogrammed and don't remember how to operate.

    Help, please!

Hmmmm... to be honest Portege is not portable for the games. Maybe for playing chess, but for some graphics intensive games is certainly bad laptop.

Anyway, the question is what you want to do.
Do you want to play some games or simply to grow old (already working) game to run again? Or maybe the two options?

  • Windows game are not maximized after Alt + tab on

It seems that whenever I start a game, he struggles to remain maximized.  or if it starts fine and I alt + tab out of it, I will not be able to maximize again.

If I click on the game in the taskbar, it will maximize to a black screen for a few seconds, sometimes flashing the screen game, reducing me then automatically on the desktop. If I click randomly on the black screen (hoping to activate something in the game) for these few seconds, the game will sometimes load back on the screen and remain stable, but only if I'm lucky and it's a pain in the neck.

This has only been past moreso in the past months, but it seems more difficult to treat.  I see no changes significant I've done which might cause that.

I have windows vista 64-bit, Ive tried to play with my display screen resolution and video game options real (my monitor is currently in 1920 x 1080).  Ive tried all sorts of task including alt + tab-switching or "switch to...» "in the Task Manager.  Ive down them as an administrator.  Ive changed the settings for compatibility for the .exe.  None of them have made no difference.  ive tried with several different games, all two (as old as 8 years) old and new games (new this year).

If it helps to have a game especially allusion when trying to solve this problem, ive got starcraft 2 and dragon age: origins.

    Hey the egg.

What is the number and the model of your video card and monitor?

Since the problem is with all games, maybe try with a new driver for your video card. In most cases, get the latest driver solves these problems. If this does not work, you can go for method 2.

Method 1: Update your video card driver

For driver updates, see this link:update a hardware driver that is not working properly

Method 2: Run the clean boot

A little research showed that many background applications may interfere with the game causing unwanted results. The best bet is to prevent all third party applications to load to the top by performing the clean boot.

See: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: Ensure that you switch your computer to normal startup mode after completing the troubleshooting steps. Steps are available in the article above.

  • Trying to get former video game PC on Windows 7 64 bit compatibility

I'm a gamer and I have a large library of games old and not so old (e.g. Civ IV, CivCity Rome, Rome: Total War, Neverwinter Nights, etc..) I have been to the Windows 7 Compatibility Checker and noticed a bit of a mixed bag for what is compatible or not.

It seems that Microsoft have placed a big emphasis on Windows 7 and I want to upgrade, but you need to know that Microsoft will support old libraries of games that work on XP.  I find it frustrating if this was not the case, especially given that the future of XP support is constantly questioned and players tend to invest a LOT of money in the games they buy.  Can you please let us know the plan and the timeline to ensure that the games will be compatible?

    Thank you!

    DCSims

Microsoft has released only the game so you wouldn't necessarily talk to them to get support for it. Read this for more information http://games.ign.com/objects/026/026376.html
Like 2 K Games Borderlands published, but the gearbox developed. I wouldn't talk about 2K games how the game should work.

When they acquire Ensemble Studios they closed a lot earlier this year, so remove all official support the devs themselves. Usually with this old games, you'll be happy not to have to do something special.

I hope that if someone comes to you and says YES we will support our own published games. One might think that right?

  • Playing the old songs of xp on a pc dual-boot with windows xp and windows 7?

Hi, I want to play a lot of old titles of games on my pc and I am currently dual-boot with windows xp professional service pack 3 copy OEM and windows 7. I have a spec pc enough modern, but when I log in the windows xp operating system I have no internet which worls fine on the side of windows 7 so I can't update windows xp and cannot install an anti virus directly from the internet, etc. Also, I can not play the old songs that I bought and installed windows xp to. There are various error messages that appear when I try to run a game on the side of windows xp, some speak of ram and some are on the charts? A friend mentioned that it would be that iam running an OEM Version of windows xp, or it might be my ATI Radeon HD 4870 X 2 graphics card and I'd be better off with an NVIDIA card? The main games I'm running are Max payne, Worms 2, Worms Armageddon, Dungeon keeper 2, Sudden strike 2, Rise & Fall, Rise of nations, Starcraft, Dune 2000 and Emperor battle for dune and a few others. Anyones help on this and how to do a bit of retro game on the pc would be not very appreciated, thanks.

  • Game does not start.

I am owner of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic for my PC.  When my old laptop crashed I installed it on my new.  The difference is that I have Vista on a new and XP on the old.  The game keeps gives me an error of 'Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic has stopped working' and stop before you start.  The game is suitable for XP and started giving me problems because of running under Vista.   This could be the problem I have, or is there something else?

    Hi Zuma1978,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forums.

For future reference, please refer to this link for all hardware and software compatible with Windows Vista:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/

A typo in the title of the game you listed here is the list I came up with: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/Search.aspx?type=Software&s=Star%20Wars%20Knights%20of%20the%20Old%20Republic

Is your version of this game on this list? (it's several pages as long as it came with 50 shots of that name).

Most probably you get this message because the game is not compatible with Windows Vista. There seems to be a good number of games of Star Wars that are compatible with Windows Vista, you can try one of these.

Please post back let us know if this information was useful or it helped solve that issue you all so that we can help you if need be.
