Old camcorder tapes

I need to change & trasfer on vhs or dvd a buntch of old bands v8. Can someone help me?

Hello Ron,

You can use a burner like the VRD - MC6 DVDirect to record output directly to a DVD disc without a computer.

Sony has also used to sell the GVD200 and GVD800 video, portable players and player for Hi8, Digital 8, and 8MM tapes. However, they are no longer available through Sony. For your convenience, here is a list of distributors authorized Sony party where you can check the availability of the DVDirect recorder/or one of the video players. You can also contact one of our authorized online such as amazon.com merchants.

  • Import analog Video8 through Firewire and Digital8 camcorder problem

    Hello!

I've got a few Video8 tapes from a Sanyo camcorder that's dying, so I bought an old camcorder Sony DCR-TRV480E to eBay which allows to capture Digital8, but also reading and listening to the Video8 and Hi8.

I finally got the camcorder and tried to play back Video8, immediately, it changes the function of reading and my old videos with audio built-in to confirm and DNR view (s). All good so far.

Then when I plug in my MBP 2011 (Yosemite) via the FireWire 800 port, then choose Import my camera (not supported) appears and plays video and audio beautifully when you click on "import". Only problem is - it doesn't matter! "He said," any device "in the upper right corner, even if it is the video with the audio in the window of import with no problems.

The same thing happens in iMovie.

Anyone who has seen the same problem? I want my DV imported into FCPX without loss of quality, so I can have finally digitized them and get rid of those old tapes.

I appreciate any help on this matter.

    FCP X requires timecode.

Most of the cameras Hi - 8mm and 8mm had no time, writing code on the tape.

Try Quicktime x to capture your video footage.

If you have QuickTime 7 Pro, it would be even better option than QT X for the capture.

I use xp windows movie maker 5.1 service Pack 3 and wants to buy a compatible "usb cable" to connect the PC to the camcorder VHS (a red/white/red connectors) and use Windows Movie Maker as software.  (I currently use Movie Maker with the new digital camera as a source and works well)  I tried produced Dazzle and disliked the software and tried to use their cable with Windows Movie Maker but had no noise.  Could you recommend a stand-alone cable that would work with Windows Movie Maker by using analog VHS as a source.

Note: EZGRABBER product reviews did not look favorable.

    John,

Thanks for your reply.  I'm burning 30 DVD full VHS tapes with a
    Standalone DVD recorder.

I'm only using the PC to download snippits of 1 to 3 minute film directly from VHS tapes that are
copies of old movies from the 1970s, taken with an original Keystone movie camera.
I prefer to use my old camcorder as a direct source, am looking for a cable that
would work without having to use software other than Windows Movie Maker.

The other alternative, I used a source on my PC, but I burned DVD
noticed that. VOB files are not acceptable for Movie Maker and it seems to be renamed
a position of acceptable files maybe isn't valid?

    Thank you

I don't think that a cable will be your solution.

I have this old Sony Handycam Video 8 1990, I remember playing with as a kid. And I still remember worked up to a point where it just wouldn't read videos (for no reason) when I turn it on the black player a few trips and none of the playback buttons work (except eject) it charges thin strips and I even clicked on file and it worked (he was shooting and not errors) I plug into my TV (camera mode works it shows on the TV) but the player is not at all. Someone please help

    Thank you

    Hi iLeet,

From your description of the problem, it seems that the leader of band and record head seems to be the problem, the internal switches also seem to have malfunctioned. This unit would need to service; However, since it is a very old camcorder, we recommend you to buy a new camcorder with advanced features rather than fix it.

  • How to import a DV camcorder - what codec?

    Hello

I want to archive my mini-DV camcorder tapes by capturing their video with first Elements 3.0 (I have a newer version, but don't have 3.0 on my XP machine having a port firewire i / f).

I managed to capture a single band and I see a series of AVI files (as expected).  I have two questions:

Is it possible / preferable to capture video in dv format only (with no recognition of the jumps of timestamp and no wrappers)?

Y at - it any loss in .avi compared to tape files (i.e. different codec is / are there other options)?

    Best regards

    David

I don't remember not the E3. but there may be a setting that says you can deactivate scene detection.

If its better depends on your workflow. I would not only a single file. Lost work to cut out the bad pieces.

None of the wrappers? AVI is a container of wrapper / there is no other choice.

Band to computer transfer is alone. No loss. AVI is the best solution.

  • How can I clean old video

    Hello!

I have some old video tape super 8.

The quality is very poor on some of them.

I have captured on the pc, but would like some advice on for example: clarification of the colors, noise etc. removal.

By the way, I am under PRE9

    See you soon,.

    Colin

In fact, this looks like a pretty good video transfer, Colin! Much sharper that I've seen most. You must have had a professional do the transfer rather than simply to film on a screen, as I did.

More recent versions of Premiere Elements include color Vibrance adjustment that would really bring out the color in this video. I don't remember if the version 9 includes a color Vibrance effect.

If there is no burst of color, there are other effects that can help. Try using the levels effect and increasing the R, G and B.

  • How do you propose I have better import and modify many portions of old VHS?

I read the recent postings to the digitization of the multiple DVD and found it to be very interesting and informative. I searched in the archives, but did not run in an ad with exactly my question and I apologize because I know there must be others with the same question. That's what I have and want to do: Vista with an external Seagate attached via USB 2. I have Adobe Premier elements 3 but I am ready to buy another form of software and another form of external hard drive. I have a Firewire port.

I have a box of old VHS tapes of the recitals, dance my child, ball games, etc... the bands are very long, but often have only small portions of interest on them and now that my children are older, they are only interested in the 5 minutes of themselves. I would like to import the video and burn to dvd the relevant parts of the VHS.

I need to know both the equipment suggested to use to connect to the computer... what software I do you suggest that I use to edit images. Or maybe you have other suggestions.

I used the first a bit. I've never used huge files, like an endless dance recital so I hope you tell me there's a way that I could perhaps find a device that would allow me to view and scan only the parts that I want... or, perhaps, it would be best to take these tapes somewhere and have it make a DVD and then is there a way to import only part of them in this way? These are NOT videos of world class... (in fact, 20 years later I realize how much I was wasting my money! (HA!)

I have been clear in what I need and the kind of advice I ask?

Thanks for any advice you could offer me.

Here's what I did, more like an accident, rather than a process thought to spend a lot of money, or get the best possible quality when converting.

I had a bunch of old analog tapes, just like you and always thought that it would be very kool to get them in a format that I can use and load on my PC.

When I bought my DV Handycam, one of the options I was looking for was "Analog passthrough' capability. This basically allows connect an analog device such as a VCR and a video copy of your Handycam.

Office "DVD burners" usually have analog connections and can basically do the same thing.

With this feature, I then slowly went through the process of moving all my old recordings on my PC.

It did not work, yes he did.

Was it easy, Yes, it was (to the extent of the connection cable).

Has been tedious and a little of your time, Yes, Yes and Yes.

But over time I had all my old recordings on my PC and in a format that was initiated for the edition. (You can also make some changes in bulk to source the conversion).

With respect to the quality, whereas the video source and method of conversion, I was very happy with the end result and anyone who considers the clips (on PC or TV), has a hard time to see the differences between the final product and the source.

Would a dedicated HW device as Canopus gave better, most likely Yes, but in my case, the only time lets just move my tapes was not profitable. The purchase of a Cam with passthrough, or a DVD burner, works great and could be used for other things.

(One caveat, with Canopus or bridge HW configuration, the process is faster because it allows you to directly analog to DV - AVI. And DV - AVI is the goal of format for easy mounting with PE7).

A sure thing, my family and my friends get a hugh expel to see (because they are older in years).

And no one ever complains of the quality of the videos...

  • Camileo P10 - how to see the videos in HD quality?

    Hey

My HD Camileo P10 camcorder records HD, but when I play the recording in my media player in windows 7, it looks like an old VHS tape.
I tried many media players such as winamp, quicktime and VLC Player, but all the same.

How is it, I can get to show movies in HD quality?

    Brian

    Hey Buddy,

You have HD camcorder recording format? I ask this question because Camileo P10 also allows to record QVGA resolution, and it looks like an old VHS of resolution.

Also on the computer, right click on a video file of Camileo P10 and select Properties. Then choose the Details tab and check the width of the frame (for example 1280) and the height of the frame (for example, 720).
It would be a resolution HD and FHD resolution is 1920 x 1080.

  • Satellite A60 - impossible to connect the camera via firewire (IEEE)

Have problems with the dv camera connection to
laptop computer via cardbus IEEE (firewire)
It seems to be connected, but none noticed and not take at all.

I think the problem is with the drivers - but what exactly should I install?

    Thank you

I don't know which cam you use but when the cam is connected and recognized correctly, it will be listed in the Device Manager. So, do you need some software to have access to the material recorded. By using this software you can record the film on the computers HARD drive.

Later, you can create DVD or do something else. I have more old digital camcorder tape 8 of 8mm inside. I connect the cam with firewire cable too. When the cam is activated, it is recognized and I can copy films of the tape to the computer s portable HARD drive. For this I use Ulead Movie Maker software.

What exactly do you do with your cam?

  • Optimum settings for the video shooting HD?

I just bought a Panasonic AG-AC160a camcorder with the update of the firmware to the 1080 p/59.97 format with MPEG-4 AVC/h.264 compression. Since it is an upgrade of my DV tape camcorder, I am confused and do not know what is the best video format to save in. I'm shooting youth hockey games and want to produce the best HD picture I can and with as few steps as possible in PP CS5. I shoot about 45 minutes of content and I want to keep everything on a support. Thanks for the tips on the best parameters of format.

Thank you. When I shoot my son games of hockey I interrupt the camcorder whenever the action stops. When I got home, I noticed that a new clip is formed at each break of the shoot (I am used to capture my footage of the entire tape - even with several starts and stops - in a clip directly from my old camcorder). Is there an easier way to get these several clips in my Panel of editing without having to physically drag each from the project Panel?

Also, what is the best way to copy/transfer files directly from the SDXC card to my computer for the files reside on the computer before their import and editing in PP?

Welcome to the wonderful world of HD. I used the 160 before and it's a nice camera. I've been shooting with a HMC150 since 3 years now and I think that squeeze us every bit of juice out of it. A good forum for users of Panasonic's DVXUser.com go there and find the 160 has category and they'll be really helpful with questions from the camera.

When it comes to HD footage on these cards, finally you will really like each time you stop the camera makes a new clip. That way if you've shot a lot of clips, you can choose which ones to import or transcode (to a different format if you wish) and saves disk space if you are transcoding your clips to another format (which can sometimes be easier on your system that modifying these files native AVCHD... which depends on your computer and how powerful he is). First, you'll want to copy the content of the WHOLE of the SDHC/SDXC card on your drive scratch (scratch disk simply means a separate hard drive where all of your images are stored. Do not change out of the card reader... copy EVERYTHING on your disk and use it. Again, you must copy the folder FULL of the small video files map structure. Then, you can use first media browser to import the clips you want. Just SHIFT-SELECT all the clips you want and right-click and import clips. If you want to drag multiple clips to your calendar, go ahead and shift + select all the clips you want and drag and drop on the timeline and they drop everything on in order. Photographing Hockey so I think we should turn on your shutter of your camera.  These cameras have sometimes "shutter stop" by default... If I remember correctly. It is easy to adjust. There is a shutter button at the top of the Panel where the farm of LCD and you'll want to have a shutter speed of at least double your pace. Normally double is acceptable. So if you're shooting at 60 fps, then press the shutter button and adjust to 1/120. When he says "Shutter" at 60 fps, which means that it is 1/60. It sounds good in my opinion, but for sports fast, you want not only blurred so I would make the shutter. If you shoot at 30 fps, and then set the shutter at least 1/60. Go too fast a shutter speed may begin to create a hyper-reel look similar to the opening Beach scene in Saving Private Ryan, that may not be what you want, that's why I say go double your pace to start.

In addition, if you are on tripod, you can deactivate the OIS (these images) If you have problems with this movement at all. We keep the OIS on most of the time, but every once in a while on a tripod, that must be off because when you do a lot of Pan (which will be the case, I guess in Hockey), then you might see these weird little shifts in the image with these cameras as catches up with the OIS. If your final product goes on the web then I suggest 720 p 60 or 1080 p 60 because computer screens are progressive. If you go right on a DVD, then you probably won't notice a huge difference with 1080 vs 720 on these cameras. It is in any case my experience. If you go to the Bluray, then maybe try 1080. The forum I mentioned above will help you with those camera of choice.

If you notice your computer bogged down editing these native AVCHD files, first put windows first of ' 1/2 resolution' instead of 'full '. Or you can transcode in a different format (for example. If you are on a mac, transcode to ProRes 422). Again, as I said before, it depends on the strength of your computer. Good luck!
