Old updates

Can I delete/remove old updates?  They take a lot of space.

Not that she would leave the unpatched system.

If you use Windows XP, see this: http://taurarian.mvps.org/WU_XP/removing_old_windows_updates.htm

NB: The above is not applicable to Vista or Windows 7.

This isn't for Vista - after each update, Volume Shadow Copy service backup only the updated files. With Vista, is a differential backup, rather than a full backup and uninstalling files in Windows XP.  This safeguard mechanism is used to save disk space.

  • Question is about the old updates

I was wondering if it is OK to remove your old updates as long as you keep your update?  Ex: microsoft visual C++, Advisor to hp total care.

    Thank you

    Young-One,
Windows updates it is not recommended that you delete the old updates.  It is possible that there are updates that interact with the older.  As for the HP advisor is an OEM program so you would need to check with HP on the feature of this. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

  • Impossible to install missing old updates of Windows XP-

I am told that I have a lot of older Windows XP updates missing who might be a threat to my safety. I have Windows XP Pro Media Center edition SP3.

I received prior assistance from a person who has provided support to Microsoft for a tech forum. She began to date of all the tests she could think to search for missing persons. We also tried to reinstall KB978601, an old update, time & time without success.

I started with AVG free edition, but now I use Trend Micro Titanium Security 2011 my virus protection. We have also conducted tests with & without my virus protection on.  Finally, it was suggested that I try this site for answers. I currently receive all the updates with no problems and I'm not sure the updates, Miss me him. As I mentioned before, told me that even if they are more updated that the fact of not having them is a threat.

Update of root certificate will not be listed in Add/Remove programs.

Note: Updates of root certificates usually come out every 3-4 months. While the updates of root certificates are installed automatically in Vista & Win7, Windows XP users must install manually via the Windows Update Web site [what were thinking?] then make sure you run all CUSTOM analysis a few months, so to see if a root certificates update became available.

  • Get rid of the old updates.

I have xp on laptop.  Is running really slowly.  Given that I've had a ton of updates was 1/09.  Can I get rid of these and this will help the computer run faster?

old updates just to take up disk space and would not be entirely responsible for a slow system.

Unfortunately, a slow system can be attributed to a variety of things, singularly or a combination of them.  It can also be software related or attributed to material or both.

what you can try first run all the tools from microsoft here: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm

Subsequently, we can take a look at your hardware to verify an idea of your system by clicking on start > run > msinfo32

Another method you can use is to see if the performance is better in safe mode and the safe mode with network / internet connection.
