Question is about the old updates

I was wondering if it is OK to remove your old updates as long as you keep your update?  Ex: microsoft visual C++, Advisor to hp total care.

Thank you

Young-One,
Windows updates it is not recommended that you delete the old updates.  It is possible that there are updates that interact with the older.  As for the HP advisor is an OEM program so you would need to check with HP on the feature of this. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

You should not remove the update but you can delete the uninstall information.

I'll assume you mean the hard drive space.  You can also use Disk Cleanup to help the removal of junk. You can uninstall old programs is no longer, you use or alternatively, get a bigger hard drive.

As to your question about updates - see: http://taurarian.mvps.org/WU_XP/removing_old_windows_updates.htm

Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example $NtUninstallKB282010$ who reside in C:\windows (hidden files) are window Hot difficulty updating folders/files) can be removed safely (providing ever, you wish to uninstall the updates). I recommend you leave these records for a period of at least one month to make sure that the update works correctly.

These updates can be removed individually or together. To learn more about the update/s go on:

Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel, add/remove programs. Select the title of the corresponding Windows fix on the folder/file of the patch you just deleted, and select Delete. You will get a Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files. Simply choose OK and the entry will be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.

    For Vista and Windows 7

The update uninstall method in Windows Vista is quite different from that in Windows XP.

Uninstaller for each update folder no longer exists in Vista and the uninstall information is stored by the Volume Shadow Copy service.

After each update, Volume Shadow Copy service backup only the updated files.

So with Vista, it's a differential backup, rather than a full backup files for uninstall
    in Windows XP.

This safeguard mechanism is used to save disk space.

So basically, you are unable to manually delete the uninstall it from the computer.

I use Gmail as a program of additional e-mail I can send pictures with this program. What is most important here is I don't think I need all of these updates! I use Microsoft Security essentials to my anti-virus program. I'm an average user of PC with average knowledge about running and maintenance of my PC. This issue is beyond my scope. Thanks for all those who might be able to help me.

    Hello Madeline,.

Welcome to Microsoft Community where you can find all the answers related to Windows.

According to the description, it looks like you want to learn more about the updates of Windows that are important and not Important.

I have a few links that should guide you in the right direction.

Important updates provide significant benefits, such as improved security and reliability. You can also set Windows to automatically install recommended updates, which can address non-critical problems and help enhance your computing experience. Optional updates are not downloaded or installed automatically.

    Method 1:

Updates are additions to software that can help to prevent or fix problems, enhance the operation of your computer, or improve your computing experience.

Visit this link and see "can I choose which updates Windows automatically installs?"

  • CS5 Update Manager keeps trying to install the old updates

Yesterday, I installed CS5 Master Collection on a replacement computer and used ' Check for Updates ' in Photoshop to download and install the latest versions. This well, but only updated Photoshop 12.0.4 and Illustrator to 15.0.2. I downloaded and installed the PS 12.0.5 and HAVE 15.0.3 manually updated and everything went well (or so I thought) - reports 12.0.5 PS and Illustrator reports 15.0.3 in their dialog boxes "about".

Tonight, I found an Adobe Update icon in my tray and clicked on it. He tells me he wants to install PS 12.0.4 and HAVE 15.0.2 (a single patch back on each level). I let him run, thinking he would notice that everything was up-to-date. He didn't - he downloaded and tried to install these updates, reports of update failed for both. If I check the updates again, I again offer these two updates.

I found this old thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/714043 that deals with a similar problem with Dreamweaver. I tried to delete the C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\AAMUpdater\1.0 folder and restart as indicated on this thread and it does not solve the problem - the continuous update manager to try to download and install the updates necessary and obsolete.

How Update Manager to understand that these updates have already been applied? I don't want to just disable checks for these products update, that I'll miss future updates. And I prefer not to disable and uninstall all CS5 Master Collection and reinstall if I have to - that seems a hammer to crush a mosquito.

I don't want to just disable checks for these products update, that I'll miss future updates.

There will be none. CS5 is now 2.5 years old and nobody does not return in support of these older versions when CS7 knocks at the door. The day.3 update has been made only after that the public cries largely misinformed on that together major security with certain types of files that has been a complete non-issue for 90% of users, anyway...

old updates just to take up disk space and would not be entirely responsible for a slow system.
