• Unexpected behavior with the role of OmeSiteAdministrators

  I is currently working on the test of the functionality of the OmeSiteAdministrator role, so we can use it in our Organization.  We run OME 2.0.0.1926.

  I went into preferences - permissions of device group and add a new test user (using members of the edict of OmeSiteAdministrators common task.)  I've provided the correct user and domain name.  Then I went to the section manage permissions of the device group and selected a group that this user must be able to deploy updates and tasks remotely.

  By connecting to the Console as long as this test user I could see all THE devices to Manage - devices.  When I went to Manage - system update I have also able to note all the devices listed in the incompatibilitee section and select any device to bring up the window of the tasks of system update for.

  I looked at the roles of the test user (by clicking the user name in the upper right corner) and saw that he was an OmeSiteAdministrator and OmeUser.  It looks like a clean install of OME adds the BUILTIN\Users group to OmeUsers group.  I deleted the OmeUsers group builtin\Users and then the test user could see that members of a group specified in Manage - system update.

  But when launched test user then the console OME, they could still see all devices to Manage - updating the system, even if the top of the window shows "System Update: filter by: ..  The actually specified group that contains a single device, but the test can view all devices.

  I have logged in as an OmeAdministrator, came back on the device group permissions and see an additional user.
  In modify the members of OmeSiteAdministrators, I see the test user appears twice, both times with the user name and the appropriate domain.  But there under manage group permissions on the device, the user/DOMAIN user that I added, but now also a STRANGER/user (domain is actually 'UNKNOWN' and user is the user name of test).

  It seems that the filter does not always work (it worked only once for the test user.  Each time other than the test user opens the console he showed all devices.)  Also, Im not sure why there is the addition of the UNKNOWN/username user.

  This error occurs when the system account does not have sufficient permissions.

  ·         You are the administrator of the computer?

  If you are not then you can ask the administrator to install the program and check the issue.

  If you are the administrator, then we will check with the following steps.

  a. Click Start, click computer, and look for the following folders.

  § C:\ProgramData\Intuit

  § C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Common

  b. right click on the folder itself, and then select Properties.

  c. click on the Security tab and then click on the change button.

  § Click OK if a UAC window appears.

  d. in the window permissions , in the group or user names section, select your Windows user name. If your user name is not in the list:

  § Click on the Add button.

  § Type your username in the box enter the name of the object to select, click check names, and then click OK.

  e. in the permissions for users section, select the full control check box in the allow column.

  f. click applyand then click OK twice to close the permissions window.

• SA_101 with SupportAsssist 2.2.0 for OME

  I installed SupportAssist 2.2.0 for OpenManage Essentials and while I see all our HQ configured servers (green check mark), all our servers in branch offices have this error:

  "SupportAssist fails to perform an element of the collection on alunls01.alunt.net due to an internal error. .
  If the problem persists, it may require log files to continue troubleshooting. Contact Dell technical support.

  " Error code: SA_101"

  OME can see servers, even their questions, but cannot SupportAssist. Connectivity tests pass; branches are connected to HQ via the VPN. I called Dell ProSupport, but told me that they cannot help me with this problem.

  Do you have any suggestions on this matter, please?

  As I said before upload of a file is time. This can happen because of the slow network speed. While you are planning to have support help install locally in the branch, you can explore using Dell Support help for 1.3 servers.

• 2.2 - ESXi - no State health of OME

  I try to get OpenManage Essentials 2.2 health of ESXi.

  A server ESXi 5.1 and OMSA 7.4 Health Watch
  Servers with 6 ESXi and 8.3 of the OMSA only show a grey question mark.

  I can find no documentation indicating which versions of ESXi and OMSA is compatible with 2.2 OME.

  I found that something was off with the OMSA package deployed via the Update Manager. It showed as being in line with the base line, but I re-uploaded VIB in the Nativity update repository, created a new base line and attached hosts. The hosts showed now also fort and OMSA installed OK.

  OME now see the health status.

  But, under Data Sources in the display of the device, the administrator of the server (storage management) and VMware ESXi have a triangle of yellow warning next to them. How will I know what is the reason for these warnings?

  Thanks for the post. OME has role-based security that manages the OME access for specific groups in the tree view of the devices. Other than one, any user with access to the OME must be part of the Group OmeAdministrator, or OMEPowerUsers or OMEUsers. You can't manage users from inside the HOME, but if you do not want users from the domain to access the OME, you can remove the domain users group in the three groups of users required for OME. That should help him.

• OME 2.2: Inventory unclassified WSMAN

  At first we could ' t do so through OME because iDRAC was not able to install the HARD drive firmwares. Because I believe that iDRAC 2.21.21.21 this ability has been added to a future version of OME will also support this.

• OME 2.0.1 and Brocade M5424 fc switches

  I have problem with OME discovery/inventory abd Brocade M5424.   4 M5424 brocades are defined as 2 M1000e chassis access gateways, problem is this discovery/inventory OME found as a fibre channel switch with 4 ip addresses.

  Inventory and discovery works well with all the other components of these 2 chassis, only fc switches I have this problem.

  M5424 have unique host names, single ip addr. and snmp is defined.  OME same troubleshooting tool gives me the correct result when the connection on these switches CF test.

  Anyone with the same problem?  Mode gateway may be the source of this problem?

  Can someone tell me if not secured such as HTTP and TELNET protocols are required for OME? Or they are just for the legacy support?

  I would prefer to use HTTPS and SSH to my deployment if possible.

  Hi Ben,

  The discovery/inventory of servers (iDRAC/host operating system) works with wsman (idrac), snmp (with agent OMSA), wmi (windows OMSA agentless), ssh (linux agentless OMSA).

  There is a very limited use of the HTTP protocol in case you have a few switches Dell networking, in this case based only URL http application launch.

  OME does not receive the details of the inventory and the State for some servers.

  For example when looking at one of our PowerEdge R620s is all that presents itself:

  

  iDRAC firmware and LCC is updated (version 2.21.21.21 is installed.)

  I reset the iDRAC, and that did not help.  I have no problem with most of the other R620s in the same range of discovery.

  I deleted the object to OME and re-discovered twice over the past week it but did not help.

  Things seem ok when I use the troubleshooting tool:

  Thanks for the details in the post.

  Wanted to check what version of OME use you - OME 2.1?

  If so, this behavior with ws - man discovery could potentially due to expiry of certificate on this device. You can launch the iDRAC user interface and confirm the certificate information.

  2.1 the OME, the WS - Man communication component is updated. The most recent component does not communicate with the device if that device has been exceeded in the certificate.

  Sslresetcfg running via racadm will reset the certificate. For details and solution, see same threadhttp://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/f/4494/t/19653767 .

• 7 and DELL OME 2.1 iDrac6

  I have 4 m710hd, 1 m710 blades and the rest is m620. M620 all happens to ome with the device name and information of the system of exploitation, but all the m710 using idrac6 happens with ip as name and no operating system information. I only use ws - man to the discovery.

  If I place an alert Action to OME, OME provids the details of the alert Message to the script that I defined. In the alert Message, there are several types of information, such as Service number, alert and FULL domain name.

  Now, at one customer site OME reports for appliance name and domain FULL of different values. I was wondering where the FQDN value is taken. It is something of DNS or has he just iDRAC? If it comes to the iDRAC, I can configure it? Is this something I can configue on OME or iDRAC?

  OME performs a reverse DNS lookup.

  This is a list of name resolution that OME crosses top down

  1. If the inventoried by OMSA server then the FQDN DNS name servers
  2. iDRAC name DNS (Reverse DNS lookup)
  3. iDRAC (iDRAC host name parameter) host name
  4. IP address

  If you let the iDRAC registers in the system DNS enable this check mark.

  Hi Naseem,

  I believe you are referring server PowerEdge C. Support for this server is with the IPMI Protocol. When you discover using IPMI, they will classify as PowerEdge C server in the tree view of the devices. Hope this fixes your query.
