only 3 GB ram usable in system properties

I have a computer dell laptop that have 4 GB of ram on board...

in the bios, that it shows that I have 4 GB, but in system properties, it shows that I have only 3 GB of usable ram... I use 32 bit windows7 ultimate.

can pls help change the settings so that I can use all 4 GB of RAM I have.

32-bit (x 86) architecture may not use more than 3 120 MB (3 GB) of RAM. 64-bit (x 64) architecture can. As such, there are no settings to change.
There is an upper limit of 4 GB of RAM for 32-bit systems, but the largest amount of RAM that can be used by the operating system can vary between 3 and 3.5 GB
This KB is good for Vista, explains why. See the workaround :

System memory shown in the system information dialog box in Windows Vista is less than expected if the 4 GB of RAM is installed

Furthermore, there is an hardware and drivers for Windows 7 forum or a forum for performance and Maintenance for Windows 7, that this question should be displayed instead of there, Windows Update forum. Please do the next time, pranavjoshi.
Thank you!

No, there is no problem, other than your lost money by buying
    more than 4 GB.

All versions of Windows 32-bit client (XP/Vista/7 not only) have a 4GB
address space (64-bit versions can use much more). It's the
theoretical upper limit beyond which you cannot go.
But you can't use the whole address space. Even if you have a
Address space of 4 GB, you can only use around 3. 1 GB of RAM. It's
because some of the space is used by the hardware and is not available for
operating system and applications. The amount you can use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but can
range from as little as 2 GB to 3.5 GB. It's usually around
GB 3.1. you are a little below this average.

Note that the hardware is using the space, not the real address
The RAM itself. If you have a larger amount of RAM, the rest of the RAM
goes unused because there is no address to map space to.

  • C55-A-19N satellite: 4 GB of RAM installed but only 2.39 is usable

    Hello

I have Toshiba satellite A-C55-19N with Windows 7 32 bit. It has 4 GB of memory installed, but only 2.39 is usable.

    BIOS is the latest.
I can't find the option to change anywhere in the system.

My desktop with core i5 - 2500K can see 3.29 GB to 4 GB of RAM, why toshiba can not see?

32-bit systems (no matter if its Win 7) Win XP, Vista etc.) supports only 3.2 GB of RAM
    It is the 32-bit boundary.

The other small part (300 MB roundabout) is shared by the graphics card.
Therefore, the system displays only 2.39 GB RAM

    Hello

X 86 Windows will not be able to see more than 4 GB, so it will not work. Now, JUST try to 4 GB to see (and normally its usable is around 3.25 to 3.75 GB).  If you want to use more than 4 GB, you need 64-bit operating system.

    Kind regards.

  • Since upgrading my ram installed shows 4 gb but says now only 2.93 GB usable why?

Since I've upgraded to Windows 7 my ram poster now only 2.93 GB usable of my 4 GB.  Why would it be?  And that would be why my system seems slower since upgrade?  The performance is not as fast it was before Vista.  I am more than a little confused!  Why it does not use the full 4 GB?  Only just noticed this, so if someone wouldn't mind to tell me if there is problem I would be very grateful, I'm sure it was something before the 3 upgrade!

    Hi Linda,.

There is actually a very technical reason for what you see, but basically it's because you're using a 32-BIT operating system.  If you use a 64-BIT operating system you would not see the problem.

If you are interested, this post does a good job of explaining it is http://blogs.msdn.com/hiltonl/archive/2007/04/13/the-3gb-not-4gb-ram-problem.aspx , but basically, it's down to the way that the operating system uses the memory and how it spread what you can and cannot use.

Long story short, that if you stay with 32 BIT, you're stuck with this...

    Hope this helps,

  • In Windows 7 has 4 GB of ram but only 2.75 gb usable

    I have
    Win7 32 bit os.
    AMD phenom II x 2 550 processor
    4 GB of ram

but it shows only 2.75 GB usable.

    Why so much?

A 32-bit operating system is not able to use more than 2.75 GB of RAM (maximum addressable memory is 2 * 32, which is about 2.75 gig). In order to use full 4 GB of RAM, you need a 64-bit operating system.

  • 4 GB RAM only 3.46 GB RAM usable 8 64-bit Windows

Hi, I have a laptop of 64-bit windows 8 with 4 GB of ram but my system has only 3.46 GB usable. At the moment I have 2 GB of ram in my laptop because I make more and now it says I have only 1.46 GB of usable ram. Any help?

    CBD

Others Go 0.54 is normal and probably shared video RAM.  I suspect that you are not interpret correctly because they are different from those of win 7 or before.

You can have 1.46 usable but perhaps up to half of the fast cache ram anticipating your actions.

If you are looking for this because you feel that your machine is slow is not the problem.

  • RAM not appearing is not in system properties

I have 3 GB installed on my OLD Windows XP

Lately, I noticed that when I checked my system properties it says that 2 GB.

    picture115.jpg

    But HWINFO32 shows 3GB

    picture114.jpg

I ran memtest86 to see if my ram wasn't, but it happened.

Any ideas on why it only shows 2 GB.

I have a graphics Nvidia 9800 1024 MB if for some reason that subtracted from my total.

    Thanks: GLenn

    Glenn,

XP has always demonstrated that less than what actually moved. That's why a lot of people say that the maximum memory with XP is about 3.25 GB. This is not correct, he sees a maximum of 4 GB but reported figure 3.25 or some like that max. With 3 GB installed, it will report something like 2.25 GB. Win7 does not have this confusing method, it reflects the actual amount installed.

So why XP fewer memory reported? Because he deducted the space used for the video memory and stuff like that:

I hope this explains a bit.

Can you please tell us the manufacturer and the exact specification of this extra RAM module?

According to the specifications of the compatible laptop 4 GB RAM rated a number PA5104U-1M4G or Kingston KTT-S3CL / 4G.

With all due respect, you are incorrect. You simply did not notice before D drive. D drive is a logical drive. To the best of my knowledge there is no way to prevent it from the show. However, simply disable the system for D drive restore.

  • Remote Desktop shows only not in system properties

I'm trying to allow connections on a portable computer and connect via the internet on another.
I've upgraded from vista Home Prem to Win 7 Home Prem 64 bit.
I am using the MS. Remote Desktop feature  I read MS Help directions.  When I open the System Properties window and go to the Remote tab, I have the current text of Remote Assistance, but there is NO Remote Desktop block in the window.  It's just not there.  Same situation on another laptop that I have improved.  Help indicates that the feature is available in all versions.  Have not loaded all the features during installation, pourrais I be looking in the wrong place or it is not available in the NVA Home Prem?
Can I access another computer remotely via the internet without this step?
Also, how can I identify my full computer name (I prefer just using an IP address if possible)?  Not connected to a domain (just an internet connection and the Working Group), how can I find the remote computer?
    Thank you, Ken.

I'm sorry, but Windows 7 Home Premium cannot accept office connections remotely on other computers.  This requires the complete edition or professional version.

All versions of Windows 7 can connect to another computer using Remote Desktop connection.  That's what shows the help file.

These programs allow Windows 7 Home Premium accepts connections remotely on other computers: TightVNC , TeamViewer , GoToMyPC .

To use TightVNC, your computer must have an IP address or DNS name.  Dynamics of most of the ISP issue IP addresses, which can change at any time.  You can use a dynamic DNS service like DynDNS or No-IP to give your computer a DNS name.

  • Edge E530 4 GB RAM (usable 3.6)

    Hello

in my Thinkpad Edge E530 Windows showing 4.00 GB of RAM but only 3.60 GB usable, is this normal?

    I use 64-bit Windows.

    Sorry for the bad English.

    Hello silencesys,

lead_org is true that graphic design has your RAM.

    Gan says:

Intel graphics card have no memory dedicated, but uses some of the computer's system memory.

The amount of memory used for the graphics might be an amount fixed or may vary up to a maximum amount. It depends on if the computer manufacturer has configured the computer to use a fixed amount, a dynamic amount (ranging up to a maximum amount) or a combination of fixed and dynamic graphics memory amounts.

    City link:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/R-and-L-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/4gb-ram-installed-but-only-2-43gb-usable...

In other words the RAM that is missing from your 4 GB is set aside for your integrated graphics.  If your operating system will recognize only the 3.6 GB as usable.

    Hope this helps,

    Alex

  • Why my Satellite 2800-400 free reports only 20MB of RAM 192 MB installed?

My reports of 2800-400 satellite in the system information that only 21MB of RAM are accessible off 192 MB installed (64 base + added 128). Loaded modules are ca 20 MB only, so I do not know what occupies the rest. The laptop is very slow by using the Java-based network client and crashes (no contact at all) occasionally (once or twice per day). What's wrong? Anyone has any ideas, please?

    Hi egon.

What operating system is running on your satellite?

It seems that 2 ram modules still work? He could so that your OS is "overloaded" garbage data or makes you clean up the data from time to time?

If you want to play safe, you could do a reinstall of the operating system with toshiba recovery CD. But safe your data before you go back to it!

  • Tecra A9 - shows only 2.99 RAM can be used on Windows 7 64 bit

Great running except the RAM machines show only 2.99 GB usable on a total of 4 GB installed. I know it must re-mapping of memory, but I can't find any information to enable this or even if this machine can support?

Can it be supported natively, or with an update patch or BIOS/driver, I think that the BIOS is 1.6.

    Thanks in advance.
    John.

    Hello

The amount of RAM is recognized in the BIOS? It shows the full capacity of 4 GB?

Theoretically, updating the BIOS could be worth a try. I put t know which model you have exactly but European models the BIOS update can be downloaded here:

  • HP 250 G4: System Properties showing the wrong GHz speed

Hey everyone, I recently bought an HP i5 6200U Tower, according to intel, it suppose to be maximum of 2.80 Ghz, but on my task manager and system properties, it displays 2,40 Ghz, at the same time sometimes to the task manager the speed goes all the way to 2.70 GHz,

    Hello

As mentioned above, it ONLY shows Max Turbo frequency 2.8 GHz when it runs in Turbo mode. Normally, it will only work speed. You can crank it for rendering video example using high-end video editing software. And please note, do not work to its fullest every day, he'll kill himself faster.
