Since upgrading my ram installed shows 4 gb but says now only 2.93 GB usable why?
Since I've upgraded to Windows 7 my ram poster now only 2.93 GB usable of my 4 GB. Why would it be? And that would be why my system seems slower since upgrade? The performance is not as fast it was before Vista. I am more than a little confused! Why it does not use the full 4 GB? Only just noticed this, so if someone wouldn't mind to tell me if there is problem I would be very grateful, I'm sure it was something before the 3 upgrade!
Hi Linda,.
There is actually a very technical reason for what you see, but basically it's because you're using a 32-BIT operating system. If you use a 64-BIT operating system you would not see the problem.
If you are interested, this post does a good job of explaining it is http://blogs.msdn.com/hiltonl/archive/2007/04/13/the-3gb-not-4gb-ram-problem.aspx , but basically, it's down to the way that the operating system uses the memory and how it spread what you can and cannot use.
Long story short, that if you stay with 32 BIT, you're stuck with this...
Hope this helps,
Jon

Have 4 GB of RAM on Satellite U400 but says OS only have 2 GB
Have recently downgraded notebook Toshiba Satellite U400 (model PSU44A-00J00C) of original Windows Vista business to Windows XP Pro (pack 3 update service) assistance of the system recovery discs. Have 4 GB of RAM installed on the laptop with 32-bit system and was reading that this amount with Windows Vista, but now the figure has decreased!
I got the digits in the information system:
Total physical memory: 4 GB
Available physical memory: 2 GB
Total virtual memory: 2Gb
Available virtual memory: 1.96 GBMy available physical memory should not read at least 3 GB? BIOS is reading at 4 GB. Have updated the bios and chipset without change.
Want to tighten a little more memory to the computer, since I installed it - is the best I can get 2 GB?
Thanks for your interest, look forward to your response.
Hello
Start the DirectX using the dxdiag command.
You will find a few details and the info about the system.
The news of RAM should be available as well check what it says DirectX.PS: Win 32-bit must be present about 3.2 GB of RAM. It's max and limited by the 32 bit OS.

Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) - 4 GB of ram only 2.24 GB usable, why?
I was looking for my specs and discovered that I have 4 GB of RAM, but I can only use 2.24,
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (2.24 GB usable)I have not changed, operating system or that I received my laptop how it is now with windows 7 ultimate 32 bit installedProcessor: AMD APU A6-3400 with 4 logical processors, 4 Lossnay, 1400 Mhz, graphics HD Radeon (TM)Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6500 M series 1 GBI don't know if this problem of RAM affect my computer's performance because I don't know much about computers, but I just want to know if its supposed to be like this32-bit W7 does that 4 GB of RAM maximum, BUT because of resources etc in the PC itself, you'll generally much less available to use (although 2.24 seems a little lower than usual). Have a clean install of Windows 7 on my HP Media Center PC. This has deleted all data, including programs from my hard drive.
Before doing so, I backed up using Roxio BackUp MyPC 7 on a HP media drive.
I copied sp25942 and tried to run to install the application on my hard drive.
He said eligible for Windows Vista without any mention of Windows 7, but thought I'd give it a try anyway.
Error message came to tell-
Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update.
Update has been canceled. (9998)
Is there a version now available that works on Windows 7?
Hello
There is no update for Windows 7, but there is a way to run this software. Install WinRAR (please google it) and click right and on the sp26942 and extract it. Then, go to the source folder and run setup.exe

I bought the HP 4620 earlier this summer and installed on a Dell PC laptop. I replaced the Dell with a Mac desktop computer. I don't have any PC, running only Mac mini Mac 21.5 and ipad and iphone. I was wondering if I need to install any kind of download on the Mac desktop. I am able to print, but have not tried to scan or fax. Thank you.
Hello
Download and install the software below, remember to select the HP recommended software:
If you connect the printer with a USB port, be sure to connect it directly to the back of your Mac and not by Apple leyboard USB port that is not powered and may be causing problems.

Satellite A500 - 1 GR - upgrade memory RAM but 3 GB of usable system memory
I have upgraded my laptop to 8 GB (2 * 4 GB) ram. A 64 bit version of Windows 7 shows that I have 8 GB of memory, but there are only 3 GB of usable system memory. How do I use the 8GB. My Bios version is 2.00. In the Bios, I have not found the option 'enable the memory remapping feature '.
This option doesn't exist in the BIOS and everything is controlled automatically. The BIOS update will not change.
As much as I know about laptops Toshiba you cannot force for laptop to use a set amount of RAM. -
HP compaq CQ57: 4 GB ram installed 1.6 usable
I recently pulled out my old laptop to use it, and I noticed that it was running extremely slowly so I reinstalled windows and upgrade the ram to 4 GB to 2 GB, but now it is said that only 1.6 GB can be used. so I put the old RAM in and now it says that only 747 MB is usable. I tried a lot of difficulties assumed such as change the ram to different locations, bios update, affecting more memory in msconfig, reset the bios, and nothing has worked. I can barely use my laptop because of how slow his race. Anyone got any ideas?
OK I fixed it. I disassembled my laptop and it cleaned, he had a wall of dust that was put in place around the fan. and caused my cpu overheating, which was probably the main caus poor performance. now, my laptop use all 4 GB of ram and works well. hope it helps someone out there

The warranty will be void if I upgrade the RAM on the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581?
The warranty will be void if I upgrade the RAM on the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581? I read that one of the slots of RAM is expandable to 8 GB. Also some of the models M3 have SSDS, according to my specifications mine is not, is it possible to put my own in?
Thank you.
Nice day
1. regarding upgrading to SSD and memory size max, please send me the part number of your machine or your serial number and I will advise you with accurate information.
2. with regard to upgrading the ram, you can do it, BUT if damage you no matter which component while improving the security, then the warranty is voided. Also note that if you upgrade the ram, Acer will only cover its own warranty parts. If the ram you add becomes faulty, you will need to return the ram to the person / reseller you buy.
Kind regards

Satellite L450: upgrade RAM: BIOS shows 8 GB, Win 2 GB
Hi all
I have a L450 - 13L that has provided my company to me with 2 GB of RAM, it was about 2 years ago now...
The laptop has been very good, but it has been gradually slowing down with the applications that were installed and suites operation
so I recently decided to upgrade the RAM.
Research on the web I found that I can install 2 RAM cards each a maximum of 4 GB, which is what I did.The RAM is IN2V4GNXBFX DDR2 4 GB 800 Mhz SODIMM
What I have noticed is my laptop is now a little faster, but not much
If I open the control configuration\systeme Zumex tells me that I have more than 2 GB of RAM
If I open the BIOS it tells me that there are 8 GB of RAMWhat I did wrong or what should I do to get the RAM working properly
I tried just putting 1 RAM card and new control configuration\systeme shows 2 GB and Bios 4 GB
I tried to Exchange 2 cards between the slottsAny help much beautiful
Hi mate
What chipset do you have?
The laptop with the Chipset Mobile Intel (r) GL40 Express supports 4 GB RAM max. This means that you can use 2 x 2 GB RAM modules
The laptop with the Chipset Mobile Intel GM45 Express supports 8 GB of RAM. In this case, you can use 2 x 4 GB RAM max modules.
In addition, it would be interesting to know what version of Windows 7, you use. 32-bit recognize 3.2 GB RAM max. The 64-bit version would recognize the total RAM.

4 GB Ram installed but showing GB usable 2.49
I need more ram to run an application that I have G32 HP windows 7 86 X enterprise edition with 2 GB of ram later I upgraded RAM with 2 GB more, in the BIOS it shows 4 GB but in the computer shows GB 2.49 usable properties,
Troubleshooting I've done so far
Changed the setting in msconfig and checked on optimize ram, change parameters with the processors, but nothing is
Please suggest
The amount, he can use isn't always 3.2 GB. It varies depending on what
you have the hardware.
All versions of Windows 32-bit client (XP/Vista/7 not only) have a 4GB
address space (64-bit versions can use much more). It's the
theoretical upper limit beyond which you cannot go.
But you can't use the whole address space. Even if you have a
4 GB address space, you can use about 3. 1 GB of RAM. It's
because some of the space is used by the hardware and is not available for
operating system and applications. The amount you can use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but can
range from as little as 2 GB to 3.5 GB. It's usually around
3. 1 GB.
Note that the hardware is using the address space, not the real
The RAM itself. If you have a larger amount of RAM, the rest of the RAM
goes unused because there is no address to map space to.

NB200 - upgrade the RAM and install Windows 7?
Hello to you guys.
I'm back and received the news for you. I got my new Toshiba NB200-10Z. I would like to ask you:
What are your comments on the upgrade of RAM? The difference is notable? It worth the cost?
What RAM memory slot I'm supposed to get? And what is the maximum memory I can update? What are your ideas on installing Windows 7 as the only operating system OR to have both on different partitions?
Thank you all in advance
Hello
Just one question: you have a new laptop and why you didn t consult the user manual?
I ask this because in the user manual, you can find all the information on the upgrade of the RAM.
In my opinion RAM upgrade is always useful because the RAM modules are cheap nowadays and with 2 or 3 GB, you have enough RAM for applications.Regarding the issue of Windows 7 you can install it if you want, why not? You can do what you want with your laptop, but I prefer the pre-installed version of XP at the moment because Windows 7 isn't on the market yet.
If you want to install you need extra partition for it. -
Satellite A200 - 1 MB-Question on upgrade of RAM and installing XP
Recently bought a PC laptop toshiba a200 - 1 MB.
It came with a 1 GB of ram (512 + 512 DDR2, 667 Mhz).I want to move the ram to 2 GB, is it possible to add RAM by keeping the originals in place?
In addition, I want to replace Vista with XP, it is possible to do. The product recovery cd came with preinstalled in vista. Can I install the drivers from the recovery cd and install xp separately.
Thank you
The two locations are already occupied.
If you want to upgrade the RAM you have to remove a module. You can upgrade the RAM up to max 4 GB (2 x 2 GB)
You can use the DDR2 667 MHz (PC2-5300) 200 - PIN SODIMM
> Also, I want to replace Vista with XP, it is possible to do. The product recovery cd came with preinstalled in vista. Can I install the drivers from the recovery cd and install xp separately.
This is possible. You need to install the XP from your original CD of Microsoft. XP drivers can be found on the Toshiba page
