Opacity of layer/density mask

I just update Photoshop CC and may not know how to change the opacity or the density of the layer mask after I create the mask. I used to create the mask layer 100%, and then change the density in the properties of the layer mask Panel. This option is no longer available... at least as far as I can see. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Select the layer mask, then go to the window-> properties

It does what it is supposed to to do, sort of, but it only works on layers of art.  The frustration I have is that we use a lot of masks on layers of the Group and for some reason any that adobe has chosen to put the property layerMaskFeather in the class artLayer rather than its parent class, the layer.  The layerset class seems to have no property layerMaskFeather DOM access, even if it is available from the GUI.  I could also select each layer in turn and perform an action on it, but I still need to try the pen of mask to see if the user already has a custom setting.  Is it possible that I can do this?

  • How can I fix the opacity of the brush mask quick?

I have a problem after you make a selection using the quick mask. The opacity of the final image, I cut out the selection is too light. I must have accidentally changed something in the settings because I never had a problem with the front brush. But I don't know what I did. I made sure to adjust the opacity and hardness of the brush. And even if the red brush seems to have good opacity, the end result is the same. Is there a way I can 'reset' quick mask/brush settings? I have attached what looks like the final image. Thank you.

    Screenshot 2015-04-16 19.30.12.png

I think you have misunderstood me. What seems to you had to double-click the icon of QM to open the dialog box, change the transparency color of red, default 50% to 100% black.  I should change it, because the parameter you have now is not good for man nor beast (as they say).

Suppose you start with no selection and you activate the QM mode.  Now select a black brush with its opacity to 100% (just press the zero key).  Paint on your image, and (if you have reset the settings as advised QM), you will see a red 50% where you paint.  Now deactivate QM, and find yourself with the selection.  You can choose to do with this selection everything you like.

Personally and I know agree, I'd rather have QM "Color indicates the selected area" value more experienced users.

  • Same layer - several masks.

    Sorry... basic question.

How should multiple masks on the same layer?

for example. 3 frames of windows in a single image (layer), each requiring an "insert" (a layer).

    1. Select your layer
    2. Select the tool pen (letter g)
    3. Draw the first mask
    4. The first mask to subtract the value
    5. Draw the second mask
    6. The second mask to subtract the value
    7. Repeat if necessary

    Another option

    1. Add a solid color to your model above the layer you want to hide
    2. Change the blending mode of the layer to multiply or overlay color so you can see through it
    3. Select the layer of color that you can now see through
    4. Select the pen tool or another tool to mask
    5. Draw your masks with the underlying layer as a guide
    6. Define the layer of color as a cache alpha reversed by approach for the layer you want to hide

  • How to use rotoscoped layer as mask or track matte

I do some work between a 3d program and after effects cs6.

Is it possible to use a layer of rotoscoped as a mask or a matte to another layer?

Have you tried as luma cache without success.

    Should I precompose anything?

    Thanks for any help.

Do not use a cache of Luma.  Use an Alpha Matte, or Alpha inverted Matte: the difference depends on what you want, you want to see and what you don't want to see, and it is simple to change.

  • Apply a layer of /mask (?) to multiple Images

I don't know even where to start so I can explain what I need to do.

I'm trying to take a person on an image and then put the person on 100 other images in the same place. I don't want to have to do that 100 times different, being the person will be placed on the 100 images in the exact spot even pictures, I'm thinkn I have to make a copy (or store) the cutting of the person as a bed somehow. So how do that 100 other images (Backgrounds) help! I've looked everywhere and I'm just not getting it...

Here's how I do in PSE2. Later versions could have otherwise.

    1. open the image of the person you want to copy. Use the different selection tools to select him/herself.
    2. copy the person selected in the Clipboard: Edition > copy or Ctrl + C in the PC, command + C on the Mac.
    3. open one of the destination pictures and paste it from the Clipboard: Edition > paste or Ctrl + V into PC, command + V on the Mac. The person will be placed on a new layer with transparent background.
4 use the tool moving to resize/reposition the person if necessary.  When resizing, hold the SHIFT key while dragging a corner handle (Maj retains the proportions).
    5. keep this open image and open the next destination image.
6 select the first image and hold SHIFT then drag the layer of the person to the destination image. This copy of the layer and keeps the person in the same relative position (if you do not move the person will be positioned to where you drag the layer).
    7. Repeat this copy of layer for the remaining photos.

I don't know a way to do it in the world all of a sudden. Again, your PSE version could have this capability.

Tip: After selecting initially the person pen 1 2 px selection to soften the edges before copy you to Clipboard. Then the stuck person will look more natural and less 'stuck '. I have an example of this at http://forums.adobe.com/message/3346946#3346946, msg #2.

  • Opacity of the layer mask Photoshop in AE

I have a series of PSD files each with a layer mask with a default opacity of 100%. PS, I change the 'density' of the layer of about 15% in order to achieve the desired result. Either way, the layer mask is also an inactive Alpha channel.

My question is that when I include the series of the PSD AE as-is, the layer mask is available as a black. It doesn't seem to be a way adjust the density of the mask as in Photoshop. I tried to use an alpha channel and track matte, but no luck. The main PSD file has the default active layer apparently mask with no way to change it.

Maybe I'll have to put in place an action on PSD files?

    Thank you.

AE is not layer masks as separate channels, it uses only the calculated pixel opacity. Simply, you cannot use this method. Rasterize your stuff to separate the layers.

  • How to make a vector shape / layer in a mask without pixelation it?

Watching Nigel French on Lynda.com transform a form (using the custom shape tool) in a mask, but following the same exact procedure he does not work for me:

Select a new layer, press U, select Custom Shapes, has chosen to target record, size and release.

Voila! In the video, he gets a layer mask on this new layer. I just get a new layer - and it's driving me crazy. He goes on to pen the layer to soften the edges, which, if it is possible, can be useful.

I tried half a dozen variations such as drag and drop, creating a new layer from a solid fill color and me cannot work out how to make the shape in a mask. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I'm guessing that there is a setting I'm missing somewhere, maybe?

just to be clear, I know that I can put a mask on my vector form by clicking on the icon of the mask or of the layer > vector mask > current path, but this is not what I'm asking. I want to know how to make the shape I paint in a mask on a layer, we layer (as in the right of it).

If you can see, the video is here at the minute mark 7: create a logo with some shape layers in the Photoshop course for designers: shape layers

The transcript over this article reads

I want to fill the shape with white. So I'll do my foreground color white and press the Option or Alt + Delete as follows, and I also want to then adjust the opacity. I'll take the opacity down and here's something I want to do. I would like to pen, so that make us it sweet. Now, you may be thinking, wait a minute, all these layers of shape are vectors, how can they be feathered? Surely, they cannot be softened. Well, actually, they can.

If we go to the masks Panel, I can simply increase the amount of feathering and you can see as I do he soft all edges in this path. Now another problem I have is that the inside of this shape of the target is displayed in the center of the bagel and we do not want that to happen. So I could spend time trying to position it just so, so that we don't see. But easier than that I'll just double-click my masks to make it smaller.

Without having read what you have written here, I just Ctrl + click on the content icon in the palette shape layer layers to select the transparency of the layer.  This selection allows you to hide a layer in the layer to hide targetint then click on the Add layer mask in the layers palette.  The current selection will be used to create the layer mask.

  • Need help to transform a shape layer in a layer mask blur adjustment

I understand how to do a blur mask on the image adjustment layer, so it blurs the images below, which is essentially what I'm trying to do, but in this case, I already have the shape layer (or rather imported from Illustrator > converted to a shape layer) and is in a nested composition.

First of all, is it possible to blur the images of a composition if the adjustment layer is nested in a composition of the child, or the adjustment layer must be in the parent publication; the composition is blurry?

Second of all, how we simply take a form that they have already created and use that for a mask, in this case, a mask that will blur everything below?

    Forum thanks!

There are a few things that are not effective in your workflow and your approach.

Lets talk first about the Illustrator files in After Effects. Firstly, absolutely the only reason you would ever convert a layer to illustrator in a form would be to use animator tools found in the add menu at the top of the shape layer properties in the timeline panel or to animate a Bézier path on this layer. There is no other advantage in converting a vector layer to a shape. NONE.

Second, if you want to hide an adjustment layer then you can draw the mask directly on the adjustment layer or any layer with transparency, including an illustrator layer, layer photoshop, any hidden layer or layer shape directly on top of the adjustment layer and use this layer with transparency as an Alpha or Alpha reverse cache by approach to the adjustment layer.

You can use the luminance values of any layer that has no transparency that a luma or reversed hides by luma approach. The white areas offer transparency with luma standard. IOW, if you have a radial with white in the middle and black gradient on the edge and you use a luma matte and white will be transparent on the layer below.

Standard caches only affects the layer immediately below the source.

Adjustment effect layers each layer directly under the adjustment layer. Masks and caches can be used to control the effects of an adjustment layer.

You can also use masks on any layer to control the effect added to this layer if you have a recent version of AE. You will find the option under options to Compositing.

If you have any layer with transparency or the strong luminance values, you can use Auto Trace to generate a cache for this layer based on transparency or luminance. Any way shape mask or Bézier path can be copied and pasted to another layer.

We will take your last question now. You should be able to answer. To use any shape you created as a mask, you use this layer as a track matte.

We will change that approach a bit and assume that you have created a shape layer by using the pen tool or converted an Illustrator layer to a shape. You have a path that you can be found by selecting the shape layer and by pressing twice the key U. find the path you want to copy, rotate options path to reveal animation controls and to set a single keyframe and then copy (Ctrl/Cmnd + c). Even of the forms created with parametric tools like star, ellipse, rectangle can be converted into a path by right-clicking the shape and selecting convert to paths. When you have copied the path put you on the layer where you want to paste the path, select the pen tool to begin to draw a mask, click anywhere on the layer and paste it (ctrl/cmnd + v) and that you have created the mask. This works for forms and masks on any layer.

Here's a bet to keep everything by copying and pasting masks. The size and position of a path is calculated from the center of the layer and has no relationship to scaling, rotating, or the position of the layer. If you drew a mask on a layer that is resized to 50% and moved to the top right of the comp and rotated 45 ° and then paste this path to any other layer you will NOT get a path in the same position and the same size as the layer sampled in the model. You end up with a path that match if every sampled layer transformation properties have been reset and the layer was at the center of the model and the rotation and scale were normal. You must pay attention to this issue by copying and pasting traces of Bézier.

I missed a question type. If you nest or call a layer previously and there is an adjustment layer in the main computer it will affect all layers below. If you dial before a layer and a top adjustment layer then only layers in the nested model will be influenced by the adjustment layer.  I replied before but wanted to make sure.

BE very careful when you watch YouTube tutorials on workflow because a growing number of them is bad teaching techniques and pointing you to the bottom of the dead-end alleys. Make sure you vet your training.

If you have any other questions the best place to find good community resources is to type a word in the search help field in the upper right of the AE. For example, if you typed layer adjustment or masks, you would find a lot of very good advice on how to use these features.

  • One way to detect opacity masks?

Is it possible to access or detect an existing opacity via the script mask? (I saw a couple of similar questions in 2013 and I was wondering if something had changed in CC2015.)

My question is this: I wrote an Extension that automates several tasks of pre-press on files sent by customers. The client files sometimes contain masks, opacity, and whenever the script moves or rotates work, the content of the mask do not move with the rest of the art, causing the incorrect file. Sometimes, these errors can be subtle so that they go unnoticed until the customer sees (and it's uppercase BAD). I've been looking for a way to control, or even just to detect, a mask opacity of a script without success. If this is not possible, the community has found another way to move or turn the work while retaining the opacity masks, without the need to directly access?

    Thank you!

With CS6 + I think it would be possible, in only a few specific situations, to detect the opacity mask by flattening an object and taking a count of the items before and after. To flatten, you probably need to record an action to flatten transparency and play from the script, that's what I did. The opacity mask is developing a group of Clip element, with all the stuff in it, and the clip group appears as the top inside an object group that contains all flattened artwork.

Then, I would suggest trying to use effects or something, to rotate art.
However, I noticed that I could simply record an action to make and release the opacity mask. This means that CS6 + you can go through the elements and release/make opacity masks, perhaps freeing, spin and make the whole mask again.
