opening of startup programs - change settings

I tried to open a document and has been invited to select a program to open it in. I chose Picassa, but now all my startup strives to open in Picassa.  I just tried to open the doc even again and just as a test when you are prompted to select a program to open it in I chose internet Explorer. Now whenever I try to open a program from my start, Skype for example, a box of 'view downloads - internet explore' appears. Any ideas how I can change again when I try to open Skype, Skype etc etc opening. Thank you very much!

How can I find out what programs are open at startup? I suspect that there may be some spyware as I often get the message that windows needs expand what that, and I don't remember getting that so often before going online to Garmin to update my GPS. Hello

Bloatware is that your system manufacturer is taking on the computer for a fee.

You can use these to control which startup programs. Many who install it themselves in
Startup is really useless to be here. As Acrobat Reader (Adobe), WinAmp Agent,.
and many other who are responsible for pieces themselves start more quickly (not a question on today)
the machines) and to be sure that they can control the files they support (to make sure you continue
just use). Those who are examples only common and not designed as a slam on those
    programs very well.

    ·         All programs work well?

First of all we will run the system configuration utility and check if the computer is configured to start in normal condition. See step 7 of this article.

I would say that download and install Microsoft Security Essentials as your security program.

Click Start, and type Windows Defender, and then the . Click on tools, and then click Software Explorer. It opens for you? • Try to change startup programs, but a problem with Windows Defender gets in the way.

I'm trying to delete a program to start automatically when my computer starts.  When I go to control panel and click "Edit startup programs" it tells me that Windows Defender is disabled. So I click on "put in operation and open Windows Defender" and get an error message: 0x800106ba

What is Windows Defender has to do with my startup programs?

I found a page that step by step has attempted to resolve this message error, but when I got to the step 2, clickStart, click run, type appwiz.cpl , and then clickOK , Windows Defender wasn't on my list to uninstall.

Any suggestions? I just want to stop a program from starting automatically.

    Thank you!

    1. If you are using Vista, Windows Defender is part of the operating system. It can NOT be uninstalled. He lives and dies with the system.

    2. If you have the following antivirus (AV) installed, Windows defender is supposed to be stopped by the AV:
    Norton
    McAfee
    AVG
    Microsoft Security Essentials

3 here is another way to startup programs...
Start button > in the search box, type msconfig > press the Enter key > uac prompt > Startup tab > you can find the program it?

    4. If you have, see if you are able to activate Windows Defender long enough before your AV it stops again...

Start button > in the search box, typeServices > press the Enter key > scroll to find Windows Defender, click on it >...
topic status , it must be said... Has begun
under Startup Type, it must be said... Automatic
If it does not say that, right click on Windows Defender > click Properties > in the new window, make the necessary changes, as above > click OK when finished.

  • Change startup programs cannot find c:\Program and NTDOSQ.dll

Original title: my computer has problems with programs and c: files... Help, please!

I have windows vista 32-bit. I want to open the start of changing the programs under control panel. When I clik above, it is you cannot find C:\Program said.  Also, when I start my computer and everything is loaded to the top, a windo error appears and says, he could load c:\users\Alix\AppData\Roaming| NTDOSQ.dll

Before to try this I'm about to tell you to set a system restore point.

Your problem seems to be an incorrect entry in the registry.  There is a startup item whose path contains a space (the space between "Program" and "Files" in "Program Files" and the path is not cited.  Press Windows key + R.  In the open field, type

    Regedit

Press ENTER.  In the left pane, expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then Software, then Microsoft, then Windows, then CurrentVersion.  Select run.  In the right pane, you should see the elements that run at startup.  Make sure that any value that contains a path containing spaces quotes the path.  Fix all the entries by double clicking on it in the right pane to open them.  You should check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE as well.  The same folder under this hive contains also start values.  You can even see the NTDOSQ. The DLL value it.  I searched this DLL and there is nothing I could find on the subject, so I don't know if his legitimate or not.

  • How can I configure to open only exhausted programs at startup

When I reboot the system, all files on the opens the start (for example Picasa) menu and I do not need them to open on a daily basis.  Is it possible to set only the programs that I use regularly to open at startup?

A program is displayed on the Start Menu, it does not mean that it runs at startup. If you have the program or a shortcut elsewhere, you can delete it in the Start Menu.

First to see what programs run at startup, check the startup folder on the start menu. All programs.

Then, go to start | Run and type msconfig

On the Startup tab, you can uncheck the nonessential programs.

  • "c:\program files" opens at startup.

Hi all, thank you in advance for your help.
I am running win xp home edition.  When I boot the dir 'c:\program files' opens automatically.  Note that I do not mean c:\program files\common files.  the dir, who opens is "c:\program files" with three word in the dir documents.  so my question is sorta twofold. Why what is happening and how to stop it from happening?  Thanks again, Chris

It works like a charm for this problem.
I want to offer thanks to a hacked Silbylaw guys for this fix.

"And well, here's the deal. You have this stupid coming folder when you start?

    C:\Program Files\Fichiers

The reason is that the registry is reading through the entries and as the previous poster said, there is no quotes around C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec\... etc.

whats going to happen, is that windows will read the value until it can load this thing his tent to load (in this case, you want to load ccapp.exe or something else).

BUT here's the big thing, it will read until it CAN open something (if your value is not in brackets).

In this case, it is open C:\Program Files\Common because he got to that part of the value and said ' OK, well, I can open this folder! It is this value that finished playing! »

Now, the thing is, this folder C:\Program Files\Common does not usually exist and honestly has NO purpose! It is empty. Delete it! This is what caused the problems.

I did a test with this, I got a computer that works very well with Norton and everything, then I simply created a folder named C:\Program Files and did a reset.

All of a sudden wasn't Norton, and the folder popped up at startup.

Delete the folder, reset, things worked fine.

Add quotes to the registry values is a fix, but it is only temporary. What happens when you install several programs and they have values not in square brackets, in C:\Program Files\Common Files\... etc? The same problem will occur.

This is not unusual as far as I can guess. If you have created a folder named C:\Program then you'd have the same problem, but this time a fodler called C:\Program would open at startup, and all of your registration keys starting with C:\Program Files\... etc startup fails.

So in conclusion, the problem is not norton or your firewall, or everything you think it can be. Your unlisted registry values are normal, they will work on a computer without the strange folder.
The problem lies in the way the bed registry values of unlisted registry and this being combined with a folder that has no purpose and screw everything up. (C:\Program Files)
I have accumulated my brain for about an hour with this problem, and after doing some research and experiments, it is my last conclusive answer.

CAUSE: Setup created Sloppy 'C:\Program Files' for no reason

SOLUTION: Delete the folder "C:\Program Files". Leave your registry database as it is! »
