Options of Win7 on discs provided Dell

I got my Dell Studio 540 desktop computer since August 2009, he has worked OK so far. I studied about installing Win7 64-bit to get better use out of the 4 GB Ram - for the RAM has increased to 8 GB.

I followed MS guides on backup software and data and ensure data is safe, but as he said I had to go in windows, and then select an installation manual to get the options to choose the 64-bit Option, I have Dell disks (open new software drives some four years after obtaining of the PC. Then I spotted records has stated that they have 32-bit versions only!

Now can Dell send me the required drive free or 1 for 1 basis swap? Or will I have to pay to get a 64 bit version of Windows 7 - if so how? Before it was suggested - I don't want to upgrade to Windows 8.

Any help appreciated.

Offtek are also very good, I've used them for several systems in the past also:

http://www.offtek.co.UK/RAM-memory-2/Dell/Dell-desktop-memory/Studio-540/mid118109

They are slightly cheaper as Crucial for this model but there is not that much of a difference.

http://www.crucial.com/UK/store/listparts.aspx?model=Studio%20540&cat=RAM

The idea of .iso should work there was a large number of people who have followed my guide without incident. Let us know how it goes. Another thing to consider also as boot drive uses a Solid State Drive, this would make the system much faster.

    Hi @peiltu ,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. It's a great site for information and questions. I looked in your question on your HP ENVY 15 Notebook k172no and concerns with the 2.5 Sata III.

Here is a link to your manual p. 2. This stipulates that your laptop supports the SATA m2 only.

  • Seagate Barracuda disc not recognized by Win7 installation disc

Hello!  I'm trying to get and set the password on Aspire M34706 brother, who uses a Seagate Barracuda ST3500413AS hard drive.  (Yes, I know, it should have a password recovery disk, but does not.)  This player is driven by the firmware of the bus and doesn't seem to have a driver software available.

The problem I have is, I can't seem to find the driver file or equivalent for this disc, or a software driver I could load from a removable media.  So I can't answer or edit user, not through msconfig.exe, do not use a recovery program, nada.  I get in what concerns the 'load drivers", so I'm stuck.  I can view the contents of the hard drive, but I don't know the path or the name of the driver that I need to load.

Anyone have any idea of the file name and path (in a standard-issue of Win 7 Acer OEM installation)?  Or any other idea how to access the necessary file?

Hi, guys and girls!  I managed to solve my problem without having to do a restore.

After much searching the Acer site, I found packets of driver, zipped, current drivers for all their models of computers over the last 3 years.  I downloaded, unpacked to a flash drive, booted from the installation disc of Win7 drivers flash player, and after all that, with a minor hack, has been able to activate the hidden administrator account and use it to reset the password for my brother.  This last part lasted only 10 minutes.

The problem of not being able to write to the hard disk was because my brother does not run the firmware upgrade for the main bus, which I have now taken care of.  So now I'm a happy camper, he is a happy camper and all right.

That's all, just letting you know in the case of someone of another encounter a similar hard drive problem: full driver packages are available from Acer tech support site, just search on your specific model number.

  • Installing Win7 on a used Dell computer

I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere, but I searched and could not find an answer to my exact question. I live in Washington and there are many companies that recycle computers of the federal Government. These computers are shipped to recyclers erased all the data. They should be. I work in a federal office and suffered many computers until they left my office.

Here's my question: if I buy a Dell computer among these recyclers and this computer comes with its original Win7Pro COA Dell still attached, is it legal for me to use a Dell reinstallation DVD Win7Pro back on the machine? I tried to do this year with Win XP and I came across problems where the Windows installation wouldn't take the COA code. Are there problems that I have to watch? Because I work in a store of tech I know I have a legit Dell reinstallation DVD. These generic for all Dell computers or are they specific to certain workstations?

    Thanks for the help.

Yes, because he is authorized for this machine and the certificate of authenticity is attached to prove it. Just make her actually reinstall Windows 7 Professional.

  • Reinstallation of Win7 with disc to update only

Hi, I just bought a new Barebone PC (motherboard, processor and RAM only) with the intention to format my current hard drive and use them in the new system. However, my Windows 7 installation disc is one of these single upgrade and specifies that must already be present in order to install Vista or XP. Is there a way to get around this?

I would like to make a backup of the Disk Image before retiring from the old PC.

The chances of this start without any problem on your new PC depend on several factors, the most important is the new motherboard chipset (similer to different what of the old motherboard) and to some extent the processor. It can't hurt to try, but one thing is sure, you will need to activate Windows, even if it starts OK.

  • hp blue circle on black screen, can\ ' t access the boot options for the recovery disc

I have installed Symantec disk full encryption and encrypted hard drive. Then I restarted the pc. I get a black screen with a blue HP logo in the Center. The low right sysa message press the ESC key for startup menu, but no key is working. Each button gets a beep. If I turn the power off, then on and press the various f keys, I get different messages but still no answer from all the keys.

Symantec sent a disc of recovery for deencrypt the drive, but I can't get the pc to load from the drive. Any thoughts?. I reset the computer twice (battery and power cord, hold the power button / stop for 30 seconds)

I remove the hard drive and then turn on the laptop to see what answer the BIOS.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as if you may have encrypted the whole disc rather than only the C: volume or the BIOS ROM file is damaged.

You should be able to go beyond the HP screen to access the BIOS.

The BIOS should give complain that it cannot find a drive with a bootable operating system.

If this happens, and you have the recovery disk set or usb recovery media, life is good and you will need to take a look at the Symantek forum to see how to proceed with your encrypted drive.

If it does not then, the problem is the BIOS on the system board.

By pressing the ESC key and have the start menu appear is conditional on the BIOS being in good condition. Yours may be damaged. Try download a softpaq BIOS on another PC, extract the BIOS ROM file and put it on the root of a usb key. Put the USB key into a USB port on the laptop. Press the power button and immediately hold down the Windows key and start receiving the B key. If it works and you see an led flash, release the keys and wait. the process must load a BIOS file to replace the one damaged. This takes time, so be patient if you see a blinking led or no reaction from the laptop for a few minutes.

Post your results here and we can take the next steps, you can take.

    Best regards

    You are the very welcome.

It does not sound like a heat problem.

I don't know a lot about the repair of hardware issues beyond replacement memory and hard drives.

I could try to clean the area of fan/radiator with a can of compressed air and see if that clears any dust that may accumulate.

To do this, disconnect the laptop from the AC adapter and remove the battery.

Insert a rod through the air fan to keep the blades turning when you spray air.

Spray through the air intake fan and watch to see the dust out of the exhaust.

Repeat once or twice and blow air from the other direction of the drain line to the fan.

The other driver, you need is the driver of protection Protectsmart hard.

    See if it works.

original title: units media center with windows 8

After the upgrade of win8, then by adding library everything works fine except when I insert a blank cd or dvd, nothing happens, there is no option to burn, I looked in the options under tasks library where some people said there is a checkbox for burning, but for the love of me I can not find anywhere He plays all other films etc. I can't have the option of engraving. Any ideas.

Hi, looking for what are the differences in the different options by link for the replacement of the hard disk on a Dell Latitude E6520 below.  Hard drive fries, sending Dell Win7 installation disc and I have the drivers (and know where to go in taking in charge to get them if I can't find the disc).  Just need the right part!

The machine is almost 5 years. You are not sure if it's worth ordering an SSD, but if I do, it will come with everything I have just Exchange, including the bulb for the end?

In addition, since this will be my first time, always a new OS install: 1) any chance to recover data from my old drive HARD 2000 error code - 0145; (2) is all what I need to replace the HARD drive, boot from the CD/DVD drive in win7 to install windows, then download drivers when ending? Everything I need to know?

    Thank you

    Frank

Once the hard drive has failed, nothing can be recovered. That's why you do backups and images of the system on external hard drives.

You can buy a new hard drive 2.5 inch laptop of any retailer. Get the best market in the list of dell for an old computer - see more details , see the plug. Do not get a ssd for the old computer. In fact, I would use the opportunity to buy a new laptop instead of spending $60 + on a new hard drive. A portable five-year-old is in his last breath.

Install the operating system, means boot from the installation disk, select custom Setup to allow windows format the new drive. Here is the link to dell instructions-
