  I'm a newbie in the world of the database. I downloaded Oracle 10 g XE and it works fine. I also downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Trial Version and I want to connect to it.
  
  I installed the Oracle Instant Client and unpacked in ORACLE_HOME. When I add the ODBC Data Sources and test this I get an error: < h5 > ORA 15154 - TNS couldn't solve connect identifier < / h5 >
  
  I modified the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files and also the environment varialbe TNS_ADMIN pointing/ORACLE_HOME/Network/Admin. I also added ORACLE_HOME to the PATH variable. I did a tnsping and in the command line lsnrctl status and all looks fine.

  Is "PL/SQL Developer" installed in ...\program files (x 86)-...?

  If this is the case (and everything else is excluded) you could try to reinstall the software to another location, i.e. the drive completely without brackets.

  I have a wizard process that performs various actions to save before you commit at the end of the process.

  I know that from the primary key of the record form input to act on. I wish to lock this record for any other user can try to change at the same time.

  I am aware that must use select for update nowait.

  How do I intercept this error and give the neat message and the shape of the output in the form initialization code? Can I use the exception to a description block where select for update is executed or do I have to use the trigger for the error and inspect the dbms_error_code? I would like to no ora-00054 to be handled as usual.

  Dg4ODBC gateway can be used with the 10.2.0.5 database. It is certified and no additional license is required for the database to ODBC gateway - the license is included in the license database (even when the Oracle database is still version 10.2) AND you can also install Dg4ODBC on another machine, then the Oracle database. There is no need to have Dg4ODBC installed on the same computer as the Oracle database.

  -When you install DG4ODBC on the same machine as your Oracle 10.2 database, then install in its own, separate OH - otherwise you will corrupt your existing installation of the database.

  I m import a long table with utility IMP.

  When has spent a lot of hours and the process was near complete I ORA-30036 and a restore operation was launched.

  I m trying to drop/truncate the table to avoid the wait, but the cause of the restore process I ORA-00054 and I have to wait for several hours to try to import again.

  My question is: there is a way to interrupt this restore operation and delete the table without inducing an inconsistent state of the database?

  You can find the init.ora or initSID.ora file under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs on linux and Windows under $ORACLE_HOME/database. Otherwise, you can create using the command "create pfile from spfile.

  I have an oracle 10g db connection to sql server 2000. It was created a couple of years. This works.

  I have now created another link db of the same oracle on the same sql server server but it does not work.

  But I'm getting ORA-28500 and error IM002

  . Please notify.

  I can't understand what is wrong as I followed the hs odbc set up on this link db in the same way as I did 2 years ago.

  Just sort the problem.

  Basically, I use HSODBC to connect to SQL Server from Oracle (on windows 2003 64-bit).

  To do this, I need to create a connection ODBC from Oracle to SQL Server.

  HSODBC is a 32-bit application and is why we use the ODBC 32-bit driver when we create the ODBC connection.

  When I created the connection ODBC from Oracle to SQL Server, I used the ODBC 64-bit driver and that's why the system could not find the name of the data source.

  I have now created connection ODBC from Oracle to SQL Server via the ODBC 32-bit driver and everything works fine now.

  No offense to anyone, but as you all works using Oracle software, I was hoping a better answer than some of the answers above. You can say that you did not understand the question or you do not know the reason why it happened.

  I have just listed how the problem was fixed so that in the future one having the same problem can benefit.

  I have the table which I am not able to fall and give the error below.

  For sure there are locks, because the table is in use.

  Drop table wants an exclusive lock on the dictionary or the corresponding records.

  When the table is used there will be a lock from line on the document in the dictionary.

  Have you consulted with SGS$ access?

  Today, I discovered that some of my scripts for the task has failed with error ORA-00054.
  TRUNCATE TABLE MY_SCHEMA. MV_005 STORAGE REDUCTION

  This is the first time that this error occurs: all these scripts run on regular basis and using Oracle Grid Engine.
  
  (1) is it possible now to know what and how the other session was using this table?

  DDL_LOCK_TIMEOUT indicates how long between DDL statements patient in a DML lock queue. The default value of zero indicates a State of NOWAIT. The maximum value of 1 000 000 seconds will result in the DDL statement for still pending to acquire a DML lock.

  Otherwise, you can create a procedure to intercept the error ORA-00054 and try again

• Oracle 10g homepage not opening not... Oracle DB not listening to port 8080.

  I installed oracle 11g xe and home page did not come to the top. same thing happens when I installed oracle 10g xe. The homepage can be connected and run sql command line is also not not opening. I checked in services.msc that OracleServiceXE and OracleXETNSListener is running.
  
  Firewall is disabled. Using XP SP3. Already had Oracle 8i and uninstalled and deleted all remaining sound files manually.
  
  I opened cmd and typed-

  I guess that the command "change user identified byvalues '" is the command to settig the encrypted password.
  Only, it will be useful carry passwords of a database to another, but do not for the definition of passwords initially.

  I installed oracle 10g on my windows 2003 server and configured a database.
  whenever I try to create a simple procedure in sys and scott it showing an error error ora02550 and some other error and procedural error not valid... . How can I solve this problem... I reinstalled the system, but again the same error...

  It seems that you get the error ORA-06550

  Error:
  ORA-06550: line num, column num: str
  Cause:
  You tried to compile a PLSQL code block, but a compilation error occurred.
  Action:
  To resolve the error Oracle options:

  Check the line and column numbers (in the error message) to find the compile error and correct it. Then try to recompile your code.

  Or create another basic procedure and check if you can run it or not. Try following:
