Oracle patch in general

I have the following questions regarding the oracle patch

1. I learned from my s/n superior, saying that the application of the fix can be another bug? is this true? Can you share your experience, if any?

2. is it good idea to apply any patches for a specific version (for example oracle 11 g r1) without consulting the Oracle support

It is recommended?

3. the question of whether the patch script will vary from instance ASM and no - ASM? or would be the same?

4. how the Oracle bug id is different from patch set? In some cases, the Group of hotfixes is same as the id of the bug? is it possible to distinguish these two terms?

5. is it possible to identify the list of patches and bugs corrected by querying the dictionary of oracle database?

6. do make sense to apply a lot of patchsets in go - one rather than one. I mean apply a patch and wait 1-2 weeks and if we don't face any problem apply the second patch and so on.

7. do we need to apply the patch (db clustered) instance instance or just the database?

It would be great if you someone erases my queries listen on fix oracle.

Thanks a lot for sharing the knowledge.

NOT if there are scripts to fix POST. You will find in the correction of document when you apply a patch. Patching docs have step step of the instructions.

Questions like this are really frustrating.
Each patch is delivered with the release notes.
The release notes contain all you need to do to apply.

Don't ask redundant questions, indicating that you can "do what is necessary."

  • CPU Oracle patch process for Oracle shared houses-Stand alone case

    Hello-

I have a scenario where I apply CPU/Security Patch [CPUOCT2013] on Oracle 11.2.0.3.0 on Linux. I have 3 databases SID1, SID2 & SID3 all sharing the same $ORACLE_HOME and contain the init and spfiles files in the same directory of $ORACLE_HOME/dbs and other. Now, I need to apply the patch on a SINGLE instance of SID1 (for which I have approval for the stopping of the DB, which is a requirement for the processor). What is the method to be applied to the single SID and not others? I know that we apply patch to ORACLE_HOME, so I am confused, that way I can move forward. Please respond with your expertise and experience.

    Thank you

Your process sounds good to me - the best way to check is to do this in a test environment that is closest (if not identical) to the production as possible. You will also need to update file/etc/oratab as necessary to reflect the new OH

The environment variables that I refer above are at the OS level, not in the init.ora. See Oracle database administration. If there are any values in the init.ora that point to the old OH (I can't think at all), who will have to be changed too.

  • Details on the Oracle patches

Hello, I am new to Oracle and try to get information about the following hotfixes:

Oracle Grid Infrastructure Patch value update 11.2.0.3.7 (including the PSU 11.2.0.3.7 database) - 16742216
Database Security Patch day 11.2.0.3.0 (CPUJUL2013)

The update 11.2.0.3.7 value database patch (includes CPUJUL2013)

Could someone help me find the details of these updates.  I searched around Oracle site and google for them, but mostly I am subject to an oracle connection or the blog of someone.  If it's easy could someone possibly provide details here in this thread?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

First time I do a request this type of task, someone please help me, what should be the next step

    Thank you

It is said that out of all the fixes that are available in cpujan2010, should be applied only patch 9119284, because all the other patches are subset of this patch or its applied already.

He also said that it would restore some of the patches as it is a subset or conflict with the patch 9119284.

In short, you are good to go forward.
I guess that you remembered to backup your binaries / DB oracle before you apply the hotfix.

  • Oracle 10g patch and psapi.dll conflict

I'm trying to package Oracle 10 g (with the version of the hotfix 10.2.0.4). In trying to "Setup capture" the Oracle patch, it seems that the Thinapp process is suspended to the installation routine. While in the middle of the capture, the Oracle installation routine will block. If I leave the configuration Capture Thinapp, the installation will continue. I narrowed down it to an arm wrestling native psapi.dll .

Someone has experienced this problem trying to package the oracle patch? How you end up solving the problem?

I use the last version 4.6 Thinapp.

    Thank you

A few weeks ago I got exactly the same problem with psapi.dll with ThinApp 4.5 and Oracle 10 g on Windows 7 10.2.0.5 patch. In my case, the installation files began from a network location that causes this problem. After copying files to fix on the local computer Installer and run it there from here all works well. Also try to download the files to install fix again, maybe they are corrupt?

  • Only Oracle client patches

    Hey guys,.

I have a question about Oracle patches/CPU. Are there usually any client Oracle patches only avaiable?
I know you get server patches and processors when you upgrade the server and the client is updated too (as long as they share the Oracle home).
But it would be patches/processors that only apply to customers?
The platforms that interest me are:-Windows 32-bit & 64-bit SPARC Solaris.

    Thanks in advance

A server installation includes always implicitly "client software".

Would you classify sqlplus as server or client software?

  • Database Edition Downgrade EE to itself with Patch Oracle

    Hi Super Pros,

I'm planing a downgrade from the edition of Standard Edition to the Enterprise Edition with application of the oracle patch.

I had done some research on this, but I don't have a very clear explanation. Oracle Support, I learned a Doc ID: 139642.1. In short, what he said to have to reinstall the oracle s/w and select standard edition and do an import of the original data, it is also the solution presented in other forums, but they added that I arrived to remove the schema that was used by the features installed on the Enterprise edition. Since this schema is not used and if they are imported into the newly created with standard edition DB will face many invalid objects. But even if I do a recombination I would need to remove the unnecessary schema.

    A brief highligth is

Ø export database complete removal of features EE installed or supporting diagrams / database more cold backup of full in case of total failure.
    Uninstall Oracle S/W & O database
O reinstall Oracle S/W with Standard edition
    O apply Oracle Patch
    O create the new database/Tablespace
    Ø import data original
    O recompile invalid data
O apply the original settings and activate database with the log mode Archive.
    Stable overall O & Handover.

Let me know if it will work fine?

Your suggestions and experience, is required.

    Thank you
    Anto.

The level of export of schema backup will be all grants and privileges in the database originating the export dump.

  • Release of the ODAC 4 & 5 - Oracle.DataAccess.dll 4.112.3.0

Has anyone else noticed that ODAC version 4 and 5 have the same 4.112.3.0 AssemblyVersion?

Oracle (ODAC) for Windows data access components

It took me a while to spot the problem.  I use Entity Framework 5 and hitting a machine with version 4.  He threw a completely misleading exception on the laundry.

System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception was thrown by the target of a call. -> System.TypeInitializationException: the initializer for type for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnectionStringBuilder' threw an exception. -> System.TypeInitializationException: the initializer for type for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.RegAndConfigRdr' threw an exception. ---> System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: MySchema.MyPackage.MyProcedure.RefCursorMetaData.CUROUT.Column.1 is not valid

at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.RegAndConfigRdr.AddMetadataForRefCursor (String refCursorKey, String metadataInfo, Hashtable & schemaTable)

to Oracle.DataAccess.Client.RegAndConfigRdr.RetrieveInfoFromConfig (NameValueCollection nvc, Hashtable & schemaTable, Boolean bIsCallFromODT)

    to Oracle.DataAccess.Client.RegAndConfigRdr... cctor()

Since version 4 ODAC has been installed, the machine had Oracle.DataAccess.dll (4.112.3.0) in the GAC.  So, my application could not use my local copy of Oracle.DataAccess.dll (4.112.3.0) of version 5.

There are problems with having the AssemblyVersion similarly for version 4 and 5.  Can we get an extra release with an updated version?

There are two questions in your last post:

    (1) Oracle.DataAccess.dll versioning

    (2) DLL's Client Oracle unmanaged referenced by Oracle.DataAccess.dll

The forum post you quote refers to the #2 problem.

Problem #1, preferred the ODP.NET team is at version every single Oracle.DataAccess.dll version. We can not due to a conflict with the policy of general correction of Oracle. With the help of AssemblyInformationalVersionAttribute is the best compromise.

If you have already downloaded an Oracle patch, you will notice the files share the same version number as other patches within a family group of patches Oracle. With each new group of patches or major version, Oracle.DataAccess, dll can then increase its version, just like every other DLL of Oracle.
