Outlook Express .dbx files:

Why old deleted messages is apparently removed from the storage folder?

When you delete a message, it is actually only marked for deletion. It's not really gone and will not reduce in size dbx files until you compact your folders.

If you have saved all of the directory, copy it to the desktop computer and right-click on the file and check properties to ensure that they are not read-only.  Then go to file | Import | Messages in OE and choose to import from a directory, and point to this directory.  To import a single dbx file, see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1

  • Conversion of Outlook Express .dbx to Microsoft Live Mail issue box for receiving and sending files conversion

I am able to convert most of my old Outlook Express files to Microsoft Live Mail, with the exception of the Inbox, and send files.   The two files are not empty.  My OS is Windows 7 64 bit.  The 'Files' file is located in the directory with the .dbx files.  Most of the files have been converted except these two.  The converted file sent.

Can advise you on what to do to fix this?  I need the information contained in the Inbox, and send.   I have more access to Outlook Express.

    Best regards, Kat

Unless you left no messages in the Outbox, it must be empty. Messages are just going through there on the way to your mail server.

Folders.dbx is the "brain" of the system of dbx files and contains all the actual messages.

Now regarding the messages from the Inbox, I don't know why they won't matter in Windows Live Mail. You compact the folders in OE before saving the message store? WLMail has great trouble with import of dbx files. How do you backup and transfer the storage of OE with dbx files folder?

If you still have access to the machine with OE, it would be easy to fix. Given that you don't do it, you probably have two options.

If you have professional, enterprise or ultimate edition, you can use OE in XP Mode. Who can import all the messages and then we can transfer it to WLMail.

I was using xp rpo with outlook express.  Now upgraded to windows 7, how can I MOVE ALL MY EMAIL in WINDOWS mail

    Hi lapin21,

Please use the forum for answers,

Windows Mail is not available in Windows 7, you want to reinstall Windows XP.  You will need to back up data before you reinstall.  Best way to do is upgrade Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail and export your data to another drive.

    Switch to Windows 7

    http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/Windows7/archive/2009/09/24/moving-to-Windows-7.aspx

Your Windows Mail data will be archived for the upgrade to Win7.

That said, note that Win7 does not include all default email Client

(e.g., Windows Mail;) (Windows Live Mail).

If you install Windows Live Mail in Win7, I'd recommend switching

for Windows Live Mail Vista first to ease the transition.

If you purchase and install Outlook 2007 in Win7, I would recommend

install Vista now and then export your data from Windows Mail to

Outlook 2007 before the upgrade. If you install only Outlook in Win7, you

will NOT be able to migrate archived data from Windows Mail in Outlook.

  • I have deleated, files accidentally, in my Outlook Express, these files contain all of my folders. What can I retreve them?

I some how put the folder main to the title of "remove items" and then deleted. I'm afraid I've lost. Help! CHUCK

It is possible. Start by checking the Recycle Bin of Windows for BAK files for the records that you are missing. If you find, note the date of creation. Then check the storage folder of OE for BAK and DBX files for the missing files. If you find files, please post back before doing anything.

The location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.
If you cannot find all files, take a look at this tool.

You may need to run in the extract from disk Mode if its normal recovery mode fails to find lost messages.
  • Outlook Express dbx 2 GB mail problem.

original title: OUTLOOK EXPRESS mail problem of 2 GB dbx

    Hello

Since 2 days I'm fighting some OE problem with missing e-mail. The problem is like Office Outlook if there is some time 2000/XP/2003 with oversized - data 2 GB.
With some software I downloaded, can I see emails but no way to extract them again in OE. Is there a Microsoft tool supported as for Office Outlook scanpst retrieve Outlook Express messages?
    Best regards
    Marcin
You see a lot of messages in the Inbox? You can move them?

    1. Save your messages before you do anything. You can do this by creating a new identity and import all of your messages. Do this and then come back to the identity of the problem.
    2. Create folders and move messages from the Inbox to them.
    3. Compact of the Inbox.
Messages that you weren't see appear today? If it isn't...

You may need to run in the extract from disk Mode if its normal recovery mode fails to find lost messages.

    *****************************************

To help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • How to convert old Outlook Express (.idx files) contacts in Windows Live.

I DON'T HAVE THE OLD COMPUTER TO USE TO EXPORT THE CONTACTS!  I HAVE ONLY THE. IDX FILES.

I have a copy of the files from a computer that is running outlook express was .idx.  The computer broke down.  Now I have a computer with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail.  I need to convert or import these files .idx in my new computer.  Programs or suggestions on how to achieve this.

HOW TO READ OUTLOOK EXPRESS DBX FILES

I just bought a new computer with Win7.  Now that the OE is gone (OMGosh!) How dbx files be read?  I have OE files and now find there is no apparent way to read.  I downloaded ParetoLogic but hesitate to run it.  The message says it will make changes to my computer.  What happens if the files are made completely unreadable!  I ran the scan function and several "pilots" were listed as obsolete.  Can it be good?  I just bought the latest and greatest computer!

You need import dbx files into your e-mail without a name client. Win7 doesn't have a native email program of its own.

You use Windows Live Mail by accident?

Transfer of data from Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail:

    For messages:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx must be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail. Open WLMail and: file | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

    Location of OE message store:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files.

    For addresses:

Open the address book in OE and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Copy it to a flash drive. Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

Open the Contacts list in WLMail, (go |) Contacts in the Menu bar) and the file | Import | Address book (wab) Windows and the point where you saved it.

Note: If you use a CD or a DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on the new machine you must remove the read-only attribute in the properties before you import.

  • Re: Toshiba Assist backup do not transfer Outlook Express data

Before sending my Tecra M9 attention to Tosh under warranty, I took care to do a full backup on a separate HARD disk.

At the back of the PC, I was responsible to use a CD to recovery and then re - install my backup.

Most of my software and the original data appears to have been reloaded, using the tosh assist backup software.

But the outlook express files - the most valuable! -don't seem to not have been restored. (Or subsequently MSOffice 2003 either).

There were a few outlook express dbx files that I backed up separately on a memory stick, and try to get them loaded into the software again seems impossible.

I'm sure that all the files in the backup, but how do I extract the Please?

    TIA

As far as I know Toshiba Assist is small platform where you can find useful overwiev on the most important functions. You will find shortcuts to the specific tools of Toshiba, but also shortcuts to the tools of Microsoft integrated the preinstalled OS.

As far as I know the link for backup it has link to the tool of Microsoft and Toshiba has nothing to do with the functionality of this tool.

  • Conversion of Outlook, Outlook Express messages

I specified my own directory for the message Outlook Express (.dbx) files. Now I can't convert them in a tp of .pst files transfer to my new Windows 7 laptop. When I try to export, nothing happens.

I don't have a direct response to your export problem, but you still have access to Outlook Express? If you do, you can create a Windows folder on the desktop and drag the messages in an OE folder to it. Open Outlook and drag messages from the desktop folder to an Outlook folder.

    Hi Rhonda,

This behavior can occur if the attributes of a part or all the messages Outlook Express *.dbx files are read-only.

Method 1: Rename the Folders.dbx file.

    a. click Start, point to findand then click files or folders.

    b. in the named box, type folders.dbx.

    (c) in the area look in , click on your main hard drive (usually drive C), and then click find now.
