Palm Desktop installation/upgrade to run

I have a normal account on this XP machine. I installed Palm Desktop 4.1.4 in C:/Palm Desktop for Hilton using an administrative profile. Now, when I have, since my limited account, run C:/Palm Desktop for Hilton/Palm.exe, I gives me a box of the user's selection. I click New, Type Hillshum, and hit enter and gives me the illegal username of the error or unable to open the directory. Also, I'm doing this as it's the only profile running.

Help appreciated,

Hillshum

Welcome to the forms of Palm,

Palm Desktop should work as the Admin changes it brings in the registry. It is most likely your problem with that. If you have questions post back.

  • How to copy the data from Palm Desktop on a PC running Windows 8.1

If like me you still find the Palm Desktop data (addresses, calendar, notes, etc.) handy and use it long after throwing the combined capacity and 'sync', you can see this is useful. I bought a new PC running Windows 8.1 and had problems with data transfer due to a problem as I understand it, which does not exist in Windows XP, Vista or 7 versions. Here is a summary of a way to easily transfer data from these earlier versions if you have a USB flash drive (or Dropbox, Google Drive, whatever) very convenient:

    (1) Download Palm Desktop 6.2 or 6.2.2 to your new PC. Give a user name exactly as it exists in the database from your old PC. This name will serve as Office Automation to create a folder name of six letters (an abbreviated version of your name) to hold the data that Palm Desktop will turn upward. Wait a few seconds for this to happen, and then close the application on your new desktop.

    (2) in your old PC you want to transfer data from, find the folder named "Palm OS Desktop" which should exist in 'Documents' under path of folder and subfolders 'Users' as > your subfolder name > Documents in Windows 7 (can also be Vista) or may be under "Documents and Setting" folder in Windows XP.

    (3) in this folder "Palm OS Desktop" search this subfolder of six letters of your name and select this whole subfolder and select 'Copy' or Ctrl-C

    (4) locate the same name of subfolder in your new PC (which will have data zero), delete and then 'paste' the subfolder you "copied" in the exact same location. If you did it right, Viola! Your new desktop PC should display all the transferred data, once you open the application again.

Most of the same procedure works with PC Windows 8.1 (probably also Windows 8). What I found different is that the subfolder of data created under "Palm OS Desktop} had 7 instead of 6 characters with a"0"(zero), added as the last character. When finally, you copy and paste this subfolder in the new PC there so rename and add "0" for the Palm Desktop to locate these data.

    I hope this helps.

Data in XP is located in C:\Program Files\Palm (or PalmOne) \ < your HotSync name truncated > \Backup.

HotSync for Win8 has been available for quite a while now! See the post at the beginning of this section called "64-bit Windows USB drivers for Palm Desktop" for instructions and driver downloads.

Palm Desktop 4.x and 6.2.2 use different database formats - 6.2.2 went to .mdb as an extension.

Best way to migrate data is to perform a HotSync on the new machine, or use the built-in in Palm Desktop Export/Import option. Export the addresses and calendar files, and then copy those of the new machine.

The import option to retrieve data.

  • Palm Desktop installation

If I install Palm Desktop v6.2 on my Dell laptop (Windows XP Pro on a Treo 700 p synchronization), it deletes the data that I have (Contacts, calendars, etc.) that are in the office, it replaces? Thank you.

It should not, however, it is always recommended to backup your data before doing anything.

Personally I export data from palm desktop and then install the new version. Just getting worse, you have a backup of your data.

To ensure a smooth transition, you should just install palm desktop 6.2 over the original version. This will convert the files to the new format that uses 6.2.

  • Separate installs Palm desktop for Palm M505 and its applications, Palm Treo 680 and its applications on the same computer in Windows XP?

    Hello:

I'm doing a work around. I have a Palm M505 with a fantastic keyboard that connects to it. This allows me to write documents in a very portable way. The Treo 680 has never been the equivalent external keyboard, really full compatible with it rendering. So, I want to create documents on the M505 but otherwise use especially the Treo 680.

That's the problem. When I tried to synchronize two devices for my Palm Desktop version 4.1.2 for Windows XP, it did not work. HotSync to synchronize applications that do not work on the M505. In addition, versions of Documents to Go are very different (5.x versus 8.x).

I have a separate installation of Palm Desktop for each device, so I can have a nice desktop environment for each launching them separately. But the Palm Desktop installation "Wizard" stops and does not give me the opportunity to do a separate install of funds.

Any ideas other than the purchase of an ultra compact laptop and drop this scheme kludgy? For example, if I had to copy the installed files in files from one directory to another, this work or would would he not put in place in the registry?

    Thank you!

Very well. Stubbornness is paying off! I could beam documents between my Palm M505 and Treo 680, avoiding the need of complicated synchronization of the two Palms for my laptop. I was also able to transmit documents of both palms to my laptop Dell Inspiron M300, running Windows XP Pro.

When transferring between Palm devices, the results were better. In the M505, Documents to Go version 5,004 does not translate documents in Microsoft Word format, but in something he calls Word to Go. The Treo has DTG version 8.003, which is able to read files in Word format Go and save Microsoft Word for Windows format natively.

However, even when transferring a word in the document (old format) Go directly on my Windows XP computer desktop, he gave me a document that I could open, with the text that I would be entered following a bunch of Word characters obviously did not understand. If I add the file from my office to the most recent Documents to Go version on my laptop, I would expect that it it mean in a Word file when it sync for the Treo, but who were not on trial. In both cases, beaming between devices Palm is the simplest solution and has completely solved the problem.

For readers who are interested, that I so stubbornly tried to solve this problem because I am a typist quick touch. My old Palm M505 plugs directly into a Portable Palm both wonderful, old keyboard which is full size. Because it is a wired connection, I can type fast. This old keyboard compresses in the same footprint folded as some new keyboards external foldover. Even though much more bigger by folding it together in an accordion - like fashion, with record four flat surfaces. The design of this keyboard is now in some keyboards sold by the IGo Corporation (their former name for it was Sierra Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard). But they were unable to find a way to handshake their Bluetooth with the strange configuration Bluetooth in the Treo 680. Why from the library different Bluetooth in the Treo 680 Palm other Treo is a mystery to me, but enough of this tangent. Some interested by this workaround can be curious for the same reasons.

  • 64 bit Windows7/8/8.1/10 USB drivers for Palm Desktop

Thank you people much more to Aceeca.com (Palm OS Garnet NEW manufacturers), the USB drivers for Vista, Windows 7 and 8 Win 64 bit operating systems are available. There are many users Palm Desktop 4.x strives also to the declaration.

I have synced my TX my Vista64 laptop computer bits and Windows 8.1 HP spectrum X 2 hybrid successfully through my USB cable.

    The drivers are located here:

    Aceeca Driver Downloads

(NOTE: as of today, 01/08/2016 Aceeca site to be down for 'construction'.) Drivers can also be found here: http://www.palmdr.com/windows-7-64-bit-usb-drivers)

Installation instructions for Windows 7 (from Aceeca) are included in the download.

    Basic instructions:

1 download the drivers and extract them in the same folder. Remember the folder that you extracted to.

    2. try to HotSync your device. It will fail.

    3. open the Device Manager and look for the yellow Triangle next to the other "Acceca" or "'Palm device ' in the"Other devices"section."

    4. right click on the device and choose "Update driver software".

    5. choose "Browse my computer for software" and guide them to the folder that you extracted the drivers Aceeca.

6 choose 'Next' in the driver and then file location window tell him 'Confidence always Aceeca Ltd. software', then click on the button "install".

    7. I received an error message (Vista64) who told me "the drivers have been installed, but the device could not be opened." I realized my TX had expired, and fell asleep. I tried a HotSync and it worked!

    Good luck!

NOTE: Palm Desktop 6.22 may only multimedia show and install. Here's how to fix this:

If Palm Desktop 6.2.2 shows only the media and installation, try this: right click on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, and then choose 'run as administrator '. Other modules should appear.

To Palm Desktop run as administrator every time in Windows 8 / 8.1:

Close to Palm Desktop, if it is open. (This is a very important thing to do when you use 6.2.2 - it has been known to lose data when a computer is shut down without closing the program!)

Right click on the desktop icon of Palm in the metro screen, then choose "open file location". You will now see the actual file for the shortcut.

Right-click on the file "Palm Desktop" shortcut, then properties. Now, choose the tab compatibility at the top.

At the bottom of the Compatibility tab is a checkbox: "run this program as an administrator", click OK.

Try to open the Palm Desktop, all parties must appear. You can see a box opens when you close the program asking "did the program runs correctly. I chose 'Yes', and it has been working fine since then!

If you are using a much older PalmOS device and try using Palm Desktop 4.x, you will need this additional patch Pimlico Software:

Open Notepad and paste the following two lines are:

    Set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES = 1
    Start devmgmt.msc

Save it as SetDev.bat in My Documents.

Open My Documents in Windows Explorer and double-click SetDev.bat. Device Manager opens.

On the view menu, select Show hidden devices.

You can now see in the other position of the device with a yellow triangle against it.

You can now proceed to install the drivers according to the instructions.

  • Cool app for Tungsten T3 & Palm Desktop?

I have an old Tungsten T3 which serves me well. Recently I started to use the expenses application (v. 4.5.1P) that comes with the Palm OS (v.5.2.1).

I noticed there was no application fees on the Palm Desktop, which I'm running under Windows XP SP2. So I re-downloaded the latest version of Palm Desktop of T3: version 4.1.4e. This is the latest version that the palmOne Web site says is available for Windows XP and T3.

"" "If I click on Palm Desktop' help ' on Palm Desktop" Version "General, I see, in the component files,"Expcn20.dll (not found). I guess this .dll is the application of fees.

On another thread posted, followed by office expenses missing 4.1.4, I see that the application of fees exist for Palm Desktop v. 4.2. But the palmOne site Web told me that the most recent version for my T3 and Windows XP was v. 4.1.4e.

    Issues related to the:

    • Does anyone has tested Palm Desktop v. 4.2 on the Tungsten T3?
    • What's the application of fees available on the Palm Desktop 4.1.4e v. CD-ROM version? (which I did not)
    • Is it possible to somehow download Expcn20.dll and add it to the installation of Palm Desktop 4.1.4e v.?
    • Any other suggestions? (not including "buy a new pocket computer", because I'm a poor student )

Palm Desktop which is available for free download from the site of Support of Palm, version 4.1.4e, is a generic version in that it is usable for a variety of devices, but has not all desktop applications (costs, media, etc.). This is because not all laptop models come with all of these applications, and the downloadable version is really intended to be a safety net for the basic clock only.

For the application of charges for your office, you need to use the original installation disc for your device.

When I try to install Palm Desktop 6.2 by running PalmDesktopWin62.exe everything seems to be okay until the 'configuration register. Then I get a Microsoft Windows message that says: «...» "The wizard was interrupted before Palm desktop by access could be completely installed." ...". Then the installation stops and installation is not the case.

If it's important I use Windows Vista Home Premium. And until I tried installing, I: uninstalled my previous versions of Palm Desktop by using the uninstall feature from the CD installation disc, disabled my antivirus, stop Windows Defender and set the compatibility mode of PalmDesktopWin62.exe to the option "Windows XP (Service Pack 2).

Someone knows how to fix this?

Have you tried running just 'normally '? Disable your AntiVirus software temporarily during installation?

At this point, you may need to do a "clean uninstall" and some changes of registry before trying again:

  • Palm Desktop software showing only option Media

I have a Z22 and a PC running Vista. I used the Palm desktop for a couple of years without any problems.

The only change I made recently to my PC is to install Firefox.

The next time I open the Palm Desktop, everything like my calendar, notes, etc. were more on the desktop display.

Only two elements are media and install it.

Try to find the office, I tried to reinstall the software from the original disc.

He would not, gives me an error and the output of the installation.

So, I downloaded the desktop 6.2 since the Palm website.

I see no changes, even as the media items and install.

What is the next thing to try? My Z22 was still my contacts and other information, but it no longer appears on my computer.

    Thanks for your advice.

    Celeste

    Two things to try:

    1. the next time that you run Palm Desktop, click the icon of Palm Desktop first and choose "run as Administrator". Everything should reappear.

    2. turn off the "User Account Control" in Vista. Start button/Control Panel / user accounts/turn off her User Account Control.

  • Error 1714: The older version of Palm Desktop by ACCESS cannot be removed

    Hi people:

Does anyone know what specific registry keys, files or directories need to be cleaned for this error to disappear when installing Palm Desktop 6.2?

  • T3 and new Palm Desktop on x 64

So I was reading about sync on windows xp 64-bit and the site I googled said "UPDATE: the new version of palm desktop installs smoothly on x 64 so try that before this option Bluetooth set. So I installed it and it installed fine, however, I still can't hotsync my T3 - the configuration step where I press the hotsync button still does not work. I get the message unable to establish connection.

So am I correct to assume that, even if this new version of Palm Desktop installed on my x 64 machine, it's useless because I still will not be able to synchronize my device?

I have no bluetooth or WiFi card of the T3, so is uselss rendered it?

    Thank you

Hello.. Welcome to the forums of Palm. Your T3 can work with Palm desktop 6.2, but is not designed to be compatible with it. You will need to do is to uninstall 6.2 and then install a copy of the 4.1.4e. Now regarding the synchronization of your T3 a bluetooth compatibility so you should be able to synchronize. If your computer doesn't have bluetooth compatibility, you'll need to buy a bluetooth dongle. I saw them for as low as $2 and more. Once you have installed bluetooth dongle there are more information how to set up bluetooth synchronization in the thread of hotsync windows here. Here is a link to this thread:

  • HP Mini 210: Palm Desktop (see 6.2.2) lost address book during and after the upgrade to Windows from December 10

The problem is not with the HP Mini. This computer is running Windows 7 Starter and he Hotsyncs perfectly with my Tungsten C handheld. The problem is with a Dell Vostro, but because it is a problem of Palm, I hope you can help.

My Dell Vostro has been upgraded to Windows 10 in September. I had a few problem get the Palm to synchronize at this time, but I thought her and successfully synched bases Memo, address and the Date of all the way up to 10 Windows update that Microsoft pushed around Christmas.

The first Hot Sync attempt after the update given my address book disappear from desktop ONLY (running version 6.2.2) and I was not able to find a way to restore the address book on the desk.

Handheld still works fine. As I said the HotSync with the HP Netbook (Windows 7 Starter Edition) and I would like to continue to use it as long as ITO still works.

Try using the Import/Export built-in in Palm Desktop.

On the PC that contains the data, go to File/Export (while the address book is open and being viewed). This will produce a file that you can copy to the Dell PC. Use a flash drive, Cloud Computing service, card SD - it doesn't matter.

On the Dell, go to file/import and locate the file.

Windows 10 has caused some 'quirks' to appear in Palm Desktop. We learn that we will!

  • Palm Desktop by Access 6.2.2 shows that media and installation options

I run Palm TX on desktop PC Windows XP with Palm Desktop 4.1.4 and laptop Windows Vista business - no problem with the Xp machine

Palm Desktop by Access 6.2.2 worked but now only shows the multimedia options and install - everything else like calendar and address book does not appear. Installation of the Tools Option shows only the media as Start Up application while the Synchronization Manager Hot shows like (such as calendar and address book) checked (selected) and synchronize files.

First of all, I used the repair option of access, then the option remove access and followed by a relocation of access etc, but access see the only media and install.

I had tried to get the Palm TX to run the Bluetooth and WiFi on the Vista laptop without success and removed the battery Bluetooth BlueSoleil and Driver v2.6.0.1 and succeeded him. I did see if Palm would work with another usb Bluetooth key and solve another problem. It is at this point that I noticed that Palm Desktop by Access did not show the normal functions. I rebooted BlueSoleil and I still have that media and install it on the Palm Desktop.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get Palm Desktop to work properly.

When you open it try right clicking on it and then click Run as admin. If this does not return or if you have more questions after return.
