PANIC in the recall of Vix_FindItems causing the crash

I'm trying to use the VIX API to get a list of all virtual machines stored to a host computer. The easiest way to do this seemed to be to use Vix_FindItems and pass it a callback that was to build a chain of all VM file names (add at the end of a string, whenever the callback has been called). However, on the third iteration through the callback, the execution stops, displays an error message and exit:

Panic: SAY d:/build/ob/bora-222403/bora/lib/sync/syncWaitQWin32.c:336

The callback method that I wrote with debug printf (s), is the following:

void VixCollectVMS(VixHandle jobHandle,
                     VixEventType eventType,
                     VixHandle moreEventInfo,
                     void *clientData)
{
     int i = 0;

     VixError err = VIX_OK;
     char *url;

     printf("\nProcessing event...%d\n", eventType);

     //Only actually process item found events (8).
     if(VIX_EVENTTYPE_FIND_ITEM != eventType) {
          return;
     }
     printf("Checkpoint %d\n", ++i);

     //Get the location on disk
     err = Vix_GetProperties(moreEventInfo,
          VIX_PROPERTY_FOUND_ITEM_LOCATION,
          &url,
          VIX_PROPERTY_NONE);

     //This checkpoint never gets reached on the Panicked invocation of the callback
     printf("Checkpoint %d\n", ++i);

     //Assuming it's successful, append it, otherwise print the error
     if(VIX_OK == err){

          strcat((char*) clientData, url);
          strcat((char*) clientData, "\n");

     } else {
          printf("Error encountered: %s",
               Vix_GetErrorText(err, NULL));
     }
     //Clean up
     Vix_FreeBuffer(url);

}

I spent in a char * calloc () ed 10000 characters like clientData, was expected to move from one point to another, so that I could just continue to add to it here. I also assume that the filenames of computer virtual channel would be made available for the function call after reminders were completed running, reported by putting a VixJob_Wait in the calling function. As it is, execution stops flawless during the third call of the recall.

So, two questions: first, why is that happening and what means the error? The error seems to be related to me trying to use clientData for transmitting information, between and out of the callback function.

Second, is there a better way to get a list of all virtual machines registered with a host?

(Note: this is compiled under Windows, but apart from the change in the location of VIX.h in the header, should be easy to compile on Linux.)

Its mem smash a bug in your configuration.

VMNames = '\0 ';

should be

* VMNames = '\0 ';

strcat() is very unhappy with the original.

  • MacBook Pro hard repeated panics of the kernel

    Hello

    I knew panic the kernel repeated on my MacBook Pro (retina, 15 inch, mid-2014). In general, a piece of software will be "quit unexpectedly" a few times (Web Safari, Mail, Finder content). Then, randomly, the system will be completely freeze two seconds and restart.

    I tried running with the system in Mode safe, but panicking kernel continue to hinder. Then I erased the hard drive and reinstalled the new El Capitan (and later upgrade to Sierra). I continued to experiment with these error messages and panics of the kernel, which I can only assume means that I have a hardware problem.

    I take the unit to a Genius Bar next week, but in the meantime, I was wondering if someone could look over panic report and identify a possible cause? I have never added or changed everything - the MacBook is exactly as it was when I bought it.

    You have the misfortune to have a model identifier 6.2 MBP that GPU problems. There was a program of replacement card logic on these models, but that has expired.

    To resolve this problem, you can have the logic board replaced at your expense.

    As a temporary measure, you can download and install this application:

    https://gfx.IO/

    This will cancel the discreet GPU and run the MBP using only the built-in. This will result in a decrease in the graphics performance.

    Ciao.

  • Kernel Panic on the new imac several times when editing large files layers in Photoshop CS5

    get the panics of the kernel on my new imac... operating system wiped and reinstalled twice and still got the kernel panics.  This happens when I work in Photoshop... but that's all I really use so no just to say what the reason for the panic.  That said, I read that panicked the kernel could not be caused by a software.  is this accurate?

    crapple has my computer now and run a few 'intensive' tests and can not find hardware problems.  can someone give me some data to support a serious conversation with my 'genius' tomorrow?

    is it a commen w / Mac?  I've never had any problems with photoshop and my pc.  I miss my pc.

    I'm glad to hear that you are getting somewhere.

    And sorry to hear that this is such a concern with Apple "geniuses".

    (I usually diagnose the problem, then take the machine in their :-))

    Do you really need that the extension?

    Open topic: topic and mark this internal page. Then change this bookmark, add a keyword like maybe aa. Then aa by typing in the address bar and pressing Enter you will get topic: topic .

    Insofar as this extension causing Firefox crash goes, contact the developer using the addy email on the AMO download page.

  • Plug the VGA cable causes the crash or black screen on my Thinkpad. Help!

    On my newly purchased W530, a cable VGA-causes a crash or a black screen on my Thinkpad.

    The foregoing happens whenever I have insert the cable VGA which is quite annoying, because I use it with my projector every day.

    Accidents seem to occur more often when I closed the lid and insert the VGA cable. If I open cover more often get a black screen (which remains black even when I leave the cable again).

    I could try to fix this problem?

    Which driver (or other) would be the most likely cause?

    Thanks Adam! :-)

    Yes, as I mentioned, accidents have disappeared after installing the latest driver Nvidias own site.

    Remaining problems are small problems which I can live with to what NVidia fixes if all goes well with an updated driver.

    But it was really great to see instructions on how to start in safe mode on Windows 8. I always wondered who. Thanks again Adam! :-)

  • Is there a current threat to Windows causing the crashed hard drive?

    I received a call from someone who said he was from Windows support who wants to help me protect my computer from a 'infection' which would cause the crashed hard drive.  Is this real or a scam?

    Hello

    It's a scam.

    Microsoft does not contact you unless YOU have made prior arrangements with them to do.

    There is an article in the link I'm you provide at the end of this one

    Read this Information from Microsoft:

    "Avoid scams to phone for tech support.

    Don't be fooled of unsolicited calls. Don't provide personal information.

    Here are some of the organizations that cyber criminals claim to come:

    • Helpdesk Windows

    • Windows repair center

    • Microsoft technical support

    • Microsoft technical support

    • Windows Support Group Technical Department

    • Microsoft Research and Development Team (team of Microsoft R & D)

    Either these so-called "Microsoft" Tech companies want to sell you a worthless software, or remote access to your computer to try to steal your credit card and bank information and also achieve an identity theft on you.

  • Right click in the shell of the BONE causes the crash of Explorer and restart

    I am one of those who have a problem with Explorer crashing when I right click in the Win 7 OS shell.

    When I right click on an element (for example, file, folder, library, shortcut in the start menu,...) explore hangs frequently... showing a message box and then finally by displaying a different message (with a progress bar) that explore restarting.  The issue is sporadic.  It happens regularly during a certain period, and then it may not happen again for a little while.

    The issue started on my 64-bit Win 7 Pro system after a clean installed.  I had also installed other software (end versions on the web... not old code).  So, I started uninstalling things... and also used ShellExView disable each contextual menu non-Microsoft extension... and it happened again.

    So, I rebuilt my system again... from scratch... clean install... and then settle with just three things:

    (1) I hosted Windows Update
    (2) I added the latest version of Avast antivirus (free)
    (3) I installed the latest version of Firefox

    .. .and boom... Explorer crashed again in the same way.

    Others say that this problem occurring on a vanilla full Win 7 installation with nothing else installed... which none of the third-party drivers.  I met dozens of people have reported the problem.  Here are a few recent reports:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/crashes-debugging/34826-right-click-Desktop-causing-Explorer-exe-crash.html
    http://www.SevenForums.com/performance-maintenance/19169-right-click-causes-Explorer-crash-fix.html
    http://www.SevenForums.com/crashes-debugging/22061-Windows-Explorer-crashing-right-click-under-x64-RTM.html

    Several people have analyzed using various tools of profiling and dump and all signs point to the corruption of the heap... and the data looks as Explorer retires upon itself not a third-party component doing... but we don't have the source code to find the specific problem.

    Obviously, there is a problem... and we would be grateful, at least, something that looks like 'we are aware of the problem and are addressing it. "

    Thank you.

    see you soon,
    Steve

    Unfortunately the guys I dropped and reloaded but my apps will be the same in the list but I will not load anything on this machine, but the basic principles until I am sure that the problem has disappeared.

    For now, I have this installed

    all the default drivers but a newer version of the Intel AHCI drivers

    Opera
    Firefox
    Flash
    Java
    Kaspersky Internet Security
    Trillian

    That's all I'll keep until this thing is running at least 3 days or more without an Explorer of the accident. If it crashes again as before, I will go back to Vista and don't move not not for Win7 until Service Pack 1 and I build my next machine. I can't spend every day on this and I don't want to. If it comes to Windows (which I strongly think that it is after all that) so it's quite sad, it's something like that got behind testers.

    I wonder if the 32-bit version would be more reliable and it's just a x 64 issue?

    I'll keep posted guys... Thank you

  • 3 articles 14, causing the crash of the flash plugin...

    Hello

    I have 3 articles on 14 that crashed the flash plugin in the producer of folio. I don't have any idea how to solve this. Any help would be SO appreciated! (The rest of the items in the folio don't give me no harm)

    Do this, when I am updating in Indesign...

    Screen Shot 2012-11-13 at 1.19.53 PM.png

    We have found and solved the problem and just need to focus on when it can be deployed safely. I'll follow up with good news when we made this decision, it should be soon.

    In the meantime, try a solution for me? Follow the steps below to set the default list view in your application:

    1. Go to the Organizer Folio of the IU producer
    2. Open one of the folios which does not cause the behavior that is
    3. Switch to the display of the list (see image)
    4. Return to the Organizer
    5. Open folio that causes the crash

    The bug is caused by a problem with thumbnail image rendering, so the display of the list shouldn't cause the same problems. Please let me know if it is of a useful workaround.

    Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Extract the causes of crash

    Just tried my first single. As soon as I hit the OK button to extract, Photoshop has crashed.

    It seems that the extract took place as there are has now 10 png files in the directory I specified.

    Photoshop has NEVER crashed on me before.

    This is a problem in which we are currently working on a fix for. The crash will happen to extract assets when 2 x or 3 x options are selected, and shows the libraries Panel.

    It is only known to work around the problem, until we can get a fix appropriate, is:

    (1) choose window > libraries (to hide the libraries Panel)

    (2) restart Photoshop

    Perfect! I never really had the enough can recorder installed on my computer, but I installed a Call Recorder for Skype. It didn't work the way I thought that it would be so I uninstalled. I couldn't remember that it was so I installed each recorder of Skype, that I could find including nice may one. Then I did a complete uninstall of each program using the uninstall program supplied with Advanced SystemCare. I restarted my computer and now it works! Thanks for the help!

    P.S. I was able to find an immediate temporary fix yesterday by browsing through another forum where one of the mods had a fix. He said that the issue had something to do with DEP.

    Here is his discussion with another Member:

    ===========================================================

    In General, when an accident of app, or crashes, a record is made in the event viewer. (type eventvwr in the search) go into windows journal > application tab.

    You are looking for critical errors (they have red in the left hand column)

    Look for the application, the app blocking crash or anything related to the problem

    When you find them write down the Event ID and source code and tell us what they are. I have a sneaking suspicion it will be event ID 1000 source 100.

    Let us know if you need help

    Hey guys, I'm so glad I saw this thread I have problems very similar to POS.

    Basically, I just recently implemented a new system and installed Windows 7 above. This is where my first errors have occurred, getting an error of installation on the first try to install Win7. I had a look around the web trying to solve this and got through the installation of the second time around.

    However, after having the computer for a week now he acted strange throughout various errors and a blue screen appears from time to time.

    I get blue screens, IExplorer, COM Surrogate and Explorer Windows Defender-a stopped working, even my sfc/scannow was interrupted due to the error... This is my first experience with this type of problem and I haven't really found someone with a clue on this subject yet.

    Until I read your reply, zigzag3143. I had a look at my eventviewer out of curiousity and it just so happens that it is full of Error Event ID 1000, Source code 100, with Source stated as Application and my Avira Antivir Personal antivirus software. It should be noted that prior to Avira I had Avast antivirus installed, so I don't suspect the usual antivirus issue.

    Yes, zigzag3143, what exactly is this event 1000 code Source 100 all about? It would be so nice for a change, to get this resolved from the first post on the web, you know? Haha, anyway, I cross my fingers that you can crush it for me.

    Thanks.

    I beg of you. I thought it was that but wouldn't you jinx. OK Event ID 1000, 100 source is often caused by a built-in virus protection app called adj. Dep, or DEP data, prevent applications (read virus) to launch in 'protected memory space. It is almost not necessary but that's another story.

    He find. It is located in your system control panel > advanced system settings > Advanced Options > performance settings > DEP

    -Default is MS apps only (I think) what ever he is set to change. If that does not cure the problem, you can even turn it off. There is a turorial here on this. http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/12...ble.html?LTR=D

    Let us know if she continues

    ===========================================================

    LONG STORY SHORT... I just did what he said and follow this link to
    Learn how to turn off my DEP for a quick trouble so if someone reads this and is a problem, it can work for them, as well.

    Your information help me with a permanent fix because I have activated DEP before I restarted and now everything is back to normal

    Thanks again!

  • Cannot find information the crash report URL

    I lived an accident yesterday morning at about 7:48 a.m. EST, and I think it was the accident report I generated: bp-b1b0b671-51a6-4b49-803a-1cd6b2121218 pointing to https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/b1b0b671-51a6-4b49-803a-1cd6b2121218

    The site I was visiting at the time of the accident was Hollywood Goodfella to http://af11.wordpress.com/ and that was the only tab open at the time.

    When I presented the accident report I specifically made sure that the box has been checked to include the URL associated with the crash, the tab to restore when restoring (which incidentally is ever better than I can tell). The reason why I want to include this data was because I have never experienced problems of browser with this site in the past and in recent months, I have also are interested from browser and connection piracy. As a result, I wanted to see if my accident occurred as a consequence of my visit on Hollywood Goodfella, or there may be another cause.

    I went through what I believe, it is the crash report I generated for the event and yet impossible to find the auxiliary site or URL.

    I appreciate an expert set of eyes to see the crash report and provide me with no indication on both the cause of the accident, and the URL.

    Thank you.

    This is a problem caused by Norton (coFFPlgn.dll) software, then you can try to disable all Norton extensions in Firefox and make sure you have the latest updates.

    Initially, I had this problem after using Firefox nightly. However, an older previous version (37.0) regular Firefox worked. When I tried to update to Firefox, this problem happened.

    Hi ryangates, unfortunately these accidents are caused by security software websense currently running on your system and adversely affect firefox. According to some information, this can be corrected with more recent versions of websense, then you might want to contact your Department and if they could sliding an updated version of websense. otherwise firefox esr can also be an option: the pre-8.1 Websense versions cause outages starting in Firefox

  • Firefox crashes on startup - going straight to the Crash Reporter

    Firefox started crashing on startup today ' hui - goes directly to the Crash Reporter. Does not correctly send the accident report. Firefox in safe mode does not help. Tried to uninstall followed by clean install, no change. Tried to clean the installation of an earlier version 41, 0 - no change.

    Just before what happened got an opinion on Norton Toolbar, and I chose not to activate it.

    Have also tried to turn Norton turned off before reinstalling - no change. Also said Norton to ignore xul.dll, which sometimes he puts in quarantine during updates (detection of false suspects cloud 9).

    The later saved report of June so probably isn't relevant. Here's what the Crash report attempts to send:

    This report also contains technical information about the State of the application when it crashed.

    Hmm, Yes, incident reports are old now.

    As long as I can guess, I note something that is coming a lot lately: If you use Norton Security software, it seems to be a serious boot problem crash if you also have a program called Freecorder from Applian Technologies. If you find Freecorder in your Start menu > all programs or in your control panel, uninstall a program, and it is not crucial to keep it, please try to delete it. You have to maybe stop and restart Windows to make sure that it is completely disabled.
