Parent inherited permissions on folders

I'm trying to find out why someone would create a file folder (in Windows 7) and make it look as if I created it. This took place in a working environment on a networked system. What happened is just as I said, a folder is created and the "owner" of the folder shows my user information, although I have not create the folder.

Is this possible, and is there a way to protect my information from user to BE USED like that?

Thank you very much for your help to understand this.

Post proposed by the facilitator for the appropriate forum placed

So is that mean that created everything within my original folder is then seen as created by me?

-> No, I was wrong. A newly created file is owned by the person who creates it.

And, is it possible to see who actually created the file

-> No, there isn't.

or at least prevent them from doing it again?

-> Yes, ensuring that they have no access to any admin account.

I have several programs that when I go to security there is an unknown account and when I try to delete unknown account I get this message that you cannot delete the Unknown(S-1...) account because this object inherits from its parent perssions. To delete the Unknown(S-1...) account, you must prevent this object from inheriting permissions. Turn off the option for the inheritance of permissions and then try to delete the Unknown(S-1...) account again. I tried the edit and advance features in respect of security without success. Why have I not control over security permissions?

Found a solution to this problem.

Go to the folder parent of the folder that contains the files with this unknown account number:
    1. right click on the PARENT folder, and then click Properties.
    2. on the Security tab, go to the advanced options (bottom window)
    3. in the new window, click the button change the permissions in the bottom.
    4. Select the Group (NOT AUTHENTICATED, just of users USERS) users
    5. check "replace all permissions of child object with permissions inheritable of this object.
    6. click on the OK button or apply and done, fixed number.

Hope this helps anyone else having this problem, for me it happened after reinstallation of win 7 on the same machine and keep my images on another partition, so it was spared by the new facility, so the old user account was always on the file permissions.

  • How to remove inherited permissions?

When I look at the Security tab of some files there is an abnormal account in the form of numbers and symbols. It says permissions delete it's parent? I'm looking for it's parent?

    Original title: inherited permissions

Yes, I have the question already asked, how to remove 'unusual users' that appears in the properties of files as indicated in the "snips" attached to the above in this post.

You might not have created or deleted all accounts, but many setup programs do exactly this. As I wrote previously, the presence of this string in your white list has no effect on the operation of your PC. If you feel that you must get rid of it, I recommend a Google search with the words such as "how to remove an account from a list of file." Because there are to many tutorials explaining the process in detail, it is not necessary for me to spend half an hour to write one specifically for you.

  • Child table of graphic Parent inheriting from filters

    Hi all

I created a graph that represents the timeline to move transactions for the entire year. I also created graphics for each month and then activated the navigation from the parent graph for posting a link to each month chart. When you click on a month, it redirects to this table of the month.

The graph for that specific month is displayed, but all the graphics in navigation appear with the same data, because they inhereited the same filters as the parent chart. Filters months do not observe their originally designed filters.

Is there a way I can isolate the filters of each chart specific month to every month instead of in line with the filters of the motherboard?

(See the screenshots below for a better explanation)

    transyr.PNG

Displays the parent chart spend information all year with months shown on the axis X. When clicked, navigation redirects the graphical dashboard for a specific month.

    transmonth.PNG

The titles for each month and the format for graphics are correct. The only problem is that the original for this months table filter was not implemented.

Instead of show dates for the month, the dates are given for the entire year.

    TransJan.PNG

Instead, I need my card appear as I have designed in the Oracle answers (as in the screenshot above). The dates are listed on the x-axis of the chart, and it is limited to a specified period of time.

I have a limitation of the function of navigation on the cards?

I found the answer to my own question... in the responses, on the 'criteria' tab the filter must be protected:

To protect a filter to change during navigation and generate

    • In the filter area in the criteria in Oracle BI answers tab, click the menu button for the filter that you want to protect, and then select the option Protect filter. A check mark appears next to the option when it is selected.
  • Zipped folders are created without legacy permissions

    A minor but repetitive disadvantages:
When I create a zip file, it does not inherit the permissions are of its parent folder, or in the files to be archived.

    Concrete example:
in a folder with full control for everyone, check in text files.
I confirmed that files legacy text full control for all the world.
I archive the files by right-clicking on a group of them hovering on ' send to ' and selecting 'compressed (zipped) folder '.
The zip file is created in the same folder...
but the zip file does not allow full control for everyone.

    Why I love it:
The parent folder is to be backed up using a bat file that runs ROBOCOPY.
It cannot save the sub files zip.
I have change permissions on each zip subfolder after have created you, or the ROBOCOPY settings to limit the attempts (in which case the zip files are not saved).

Is there a simple solution, cunning, or setting to "send to" / "Compressed (zipped) folder" automatically creates the file zip with inherited permissions?

  • Make the NTFS read/write permissions without possibility to create/delete folders

Out to one of our sites, we have a server running Windows Server R2 of 2012 which took a file share accessible to our people on the spot. Our project managers have developed a very strict folder for this file share structure, and for the purposes of verification, they want to stick to the closer this structure as possible.

Therefore, although the local people must have read/write access to create, edit, and delete files, they won't they are able to create or delete folders. They want to use the existing folders and not to store stuff in folders that nobody knows there is except for the person who created them.

The closest way to you, I got to do is to uncheck the advanced permissions "create folders / adding data" and "Delete subfolders and files." This has some side effects, however, the most notable being the inability to add data to the files, some files (such as CAD drawings) can be changed by anyone except the person who created them.

Is there a way using only the NTFS permissions to accomplish what the project leaders? And if not, are there any third-party utilities that will help us do this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • "There is no media available to read" error when I access new folders on my RN104 using my WDTV

Story: I bought a WDTV about a year back so that I can copy all my DVDs on my RN104, and then put the DVD in the loft.

The last time I gott it works (after many hours!) but the movie was very nervous, I just so stressed out in the end, I decided to leave.

I tried again a few days back and somehow they are transmitted continuously smooth - no idea why, maybe theres been a firmware update since then or my WDTV has catalogue records, but they worked as I wanted to then.

In any case, I got rather excited and started to copy my DVD to my RN104 reuse MakeMKV.

I managed to copy a bit more than one evening, I checked I could play via WDTV and everything seemed fine.

The next day, I used the same computer to copy DVDs more to my RN104, now when I try to play these movies "there is no media available for playback.

I'll put my hands up and admit that I push some of the menus in the RN104 but I don't think I changed anything.

I found a few sites offering patches, but these that seem to all take care of the people storing movies on a PC not a SIN or they talk about menus that my WDTV isn't appearing any more - something about re-scan the drive seemed promising, but I can't find it in my menus.

I did some research with my setup and found that it has something to do with the issues and not the files.

If I copy a film one of my new records that showed the error in a file like that I can access, I'm able to play.

I thought to delete the folders, I couldn't access and just make new, but all new files that I create, I am unable to access.

I'm guessing this has something to do with permissions on folders, I played with the settings but I'm really not very good with this stuff and I'm worried, I'm just going to make things worse!

    Any help is appreciated!

    Additional:

I found if I copy a folder that I can access and rename the WDTV is happy to access.

Also is it just new folders, I create.

I could technically just copy a folder that works and use it as a model, but if there is a solution I'd rather!

Do not worry, I worked on what was the probelem:

I had checked 'specify the authorization when a new file/folder is created. Otherwise inherit the parent authorization"in"Default"settings"File access"on the NAS.

I unchecked that box and everything started working again.

  • How to copy a directory with all permissions and intact junctions?

Is it possible to copy a directory with junctions in there and have it copy as junctions, not the contents of the junction?

I'll try to make a long story short, but I just spent a few hours cleaning after robocopy and junctions hidden Windows 7.  I have Windows 7 installed on a spare HD so I can play with it, adjust, test things and figure out how I want to set up before taking the plunge and the replacement of XP full time.

Just as an experiment, I wanted to create a new user account, but put its directory of the user on another drive and use a symbolic link to point to her to C:\Users.  I created a new user account called Test, connected so that its directory was created and then disconnected.

I discovered that the moving or copying the files, either in Explorer or a command prompt does not move or copy the directory junctions.  I then tried Robocopy because it contains options to copy all security, owner, and audit information.  There is also an option "copy symbolic links from the target."

The exact command, I used was:
    Robocopy C:\Users\Test/e/COPYALL /R:0 /SL D:\Users

First of all, there will be no even to copy permissions, the few records he did copy inherited permissions from the parent directory to the destination, and he added a strange permission that I'll get to in a minute.  It was not long until he stopped with the error.  I don't remember the error because I restarted several times since then, and I don't care to try again just to get the exact error message in order to post here.

What's happened, it's that there is a directory hidden in C:\Users\Test\AppData\Local junction.  Junctioin name is "Application Data" and it links to C:\Users\Test\AppData\Local (the same directory that is).  This caused his keep copy the folder "Application Data" on itself until the max file name length has been exceded and he stopped.

When I tried to delete the directory, I kept getting an error that it could not delete the directory because it was not empty.  I had total control over the directory, but I still have the error and the directory (from what I could see) was empty.

Here's the strange authorization occurs.  For some reason, copies of the "Application Data" directory were defined on system / hidden and everyone had group ' the folder list / reading data "permission set to deny, that's why I couldn't see, even in the administrator command prompt.

Once I got the permissions sorted, I could not delete the directory because the name was too long.  Windows told me to rename so it was more runs, then try again.  I finally managed to delete by renaming the directories in a few 'Application Data' to 'a' and then by moving the part of it to another directory.

Not for the faint of heart, but it's doable if you combine two tools in a Powershell script

I think that the simplest approach would be to use the http://pscx.codeplex.com/ Powershell Community Extensions to find source of junctions and create new ones to target. Then use SetACL http://setacl.sf.net/ to save the ACL from the source and then restore them to the newly created junction.

Should not be too many lines of code :-)

  • Folder permissions resets automatically after each reboot

    Hello

I have windows 7 x 64 user. There is a problem with google reader I need different from that of the default permissions for C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp. I changed the permissions in this way: make a right click-> Security-> advanced-> permissions-> change approval-> clicked on include... inherited permissions and replace the child object permissions... Also, the folder option, I changed the hidden folders. However, after each reboot, I see not hidden files (hidden folder option resets to do not show hidden file) and permissions for resetting folder above. What causes reset of the changed properties? I have no optimizer tool except ccleaner. I use mcafee antivirus. I think that mcafee is unlikely to cause this problem.
How can I solve this problem? I tried to make the batch file that runs boot, but I can't use option "inherit permissions". I give you the batch commands:
    ICACLS C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp /setowner directors
    ICACLS "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp" / grant everyone: F
But these commands do not work to change the permissions in the manner described above.
    Help, please. Really need help.
    ICACLS C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp /setowner directors
    ICACLS "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp" / grant everyone: F

But these commands do not work to change the permissions in the manner described above.
    Help, please. Really need help.

There was a similar post last week which unfortunately has fizzed out (as do about 95% of all messages...).  Maybe you can gather enough energy not only to track down the source of your problem, but also post an answer here.

The following commands do not work:
    takeown /f "%Temp%" /.
    Cacls "%Temp%" / t/g everyone: F
    (answer Y to the prompt)
And Yes, I know cacls.exe is deprecated. But it still works!
  • The list of permissions of the files using the command line

    Hi all

My windows operating system is windows Server 2003 R2.

Now, I'm trying to find a solution that can display all the permissions of the file of each folder and its subdirectory by using the command line syntax.
I tried to use ICACLS to solve this problem, but its result contains the permissions of all files/folders. I just want to have the permission of files, not the permissions of each individual files.

Is it possible to just show the permissions of folders with ICACLS? If it is possible, what sentence from command line?

However, I also looked at Systinterals AccessChk and AccessEnum without finding a solution.

If you have no good solution, please share with me.

    Advanced thanks.

  • Access to system folders

I need to have access to system folders and get message 'access denied' at every turn, even when I try to change the access permissions to folders. (I am the only user and therefore also the admin on my machine).  Specifically, I need to access C:\Documents and Settings\MyUserName\Application data and subfolders and files under that.  I would like to have instructions step by step on how to do it.  It used to be a fairly simple process in XP, but no more!

    Hi Nlightenup,

My suggestion would be (if he allows) take on the folder and its contents.
To do this, following the instructions below

    1. right click on the folder or file.
    2. click Properties, click the Security tab

    3. click on the advance tab

    4. click on the owner tab (you will see an option where it shows a change in ownership)

    5. click on the Edit tab and find the user you want to be the owner.

    6. turn the user highlighted, click on apply, OK

    7. click on OK and then OK again.

If this does not work, try the following article and see if two method: manual works elsewhere.

  • Create folders password under Vista SP1

    Happy holidays everyone,.

I'm new to the forum, so I hope someone can help me. I am running Vista Home Premium SP1 on my HP laptop and wanted to know if there is a way to create folders in windows Explorer I can password protect? I don't really want to install a 3rd party application and thought that perhaps Vista has this ability. I can't wait to hear back from someone.

    Best regards, Whynotbesafe

No, sorry. You will need a third-party product to do so.

However, if you are the only administrator on your computer, then you can use the Security tab (right click on a folder, and then click Properties) to deny other users permissions to folders without 'password protect' their (the record is protected against any person who is not log on with your user account and password). Of course, if you have other administrators on the computer, they can just take ownership records and give access. And if other users log on your computer with the same account administrator user that you use, then this method no longer works. Vista Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate support a stronger form of the protection of files and folders by allowing you to encrypt their, but this isn't an option with Home Premium.
