Partition of hibernation for 3440CT

Hello.

I partition a hard drive for my beloved Portege 3440CT and I was wondering if I need to leave a space for hibernation image.

I remember with books old you should leave enough space at the end of the disc. Is it the same with the 3440CT? So how much space is needed and where do I put the space empty?

Or maybe the image is stored in a file on the first partition? What file system can use? MSDOS/FAT?

Best regards

/ M

Hello

I'm not sure but I think that the size of the HARD drive is 6 GB. You can make two partitions (4 and 2 GB). If you have the Toshiba Recovery CD install the OS on the first partition and the second that you can use to back up data.

On the first partition, there is enough space for all the data that must be written so laptop going into hibernation mode. I don't know, but it can take on new machines to 700 MB but for this old, it will be less necessary free space on the HARD drive.

You can use the fat FILE system.

    Hello

I just bought the Z930-108 and I found on the SDS (128GB) a partition called hibernation, but the normal system disk, there is also a hiberfile.sys.

    (1) is it the same function for both?
    (2) is the hibernation partition does not work?
    (3) can the hibernation partition be incorparated in the system partition to have more available space?
    (4) the removal of the hibernation partition would invalidate the recovery process using the SSD partition?

    Hello

AFAIK the hibernation partition is used by the Windows system, and he needs this partition to wake the laptop much faster than usual hibernation mode
I thought hiberfil.sys had taken the place of suspension on disc, but it seems that this hibernation partition is much more powerful. I wouldn't delete this partition if you want the Hibernate the laptop.

    Hello

    I just got a laptop Satellite A100-683.
It has 3 partitions, but the 3rd (at the end of the hard drive) is not visible in my computer.
In fact, Windows does not recognize its file system. The only thing that windows can say is that it is 251 MB in size and it is completely empty.

No idea what the of which partition is there since the only thing I can do with it is delete?

    Hello

This partition is created for Express media player installation. This reader can be used without booting the operating system. Because of this, it must be preinstalled on a partition unallocated.

    All that s!

By the way: If one day want to install your own operating system, to ensure that the EMP is preinstalled in a first time (you shipped recovery EMP media).

  • Qosmio G20: Is there a hidden partition on HDD1 for QosmioPlayer?

    Hello

I have a Qosmio G20 and I noticed that the BIOS indicates HDD1 95 GB HDD2 is 100 GB (as it should). Is there anyone else who have experienced this problem or is my HDD1 damaged or is there a hidden partition?

If there is a hidden partition - how to remove? (I really don't see the point with QosmioPlayer).

    / Henrik

    Hello

AFAIK the Qosmio Player is pre-installed on the hidden partition.
It is perhaps a reason for different size of HARD drive.

The disk format HARD completely should remove the hidden partition and Qosmio player. But this procedure is not recommended.

  • Qosmio G20 wakes up after hibernation for no apparent reason

    Hello all,.

For a while now, I've noticed that my Qosmio G20 tends to wake up from hibernation at random times for no reason apparent. When I place it in hibernation during the night, it passes in a State of hibernation, but (normally) after a few hours suddenly waking up from that State for no reason.

Obviously this isn't a big issue, but I prefer to Hibernate when it's possible (as opposed to the day before) and it's pretty boring to woke up at 04:00 by triumphing over the Qosmio music shine (it's still better than windows ' your da!) " : P)

    Any ideas?

    Kinder,.

    Hi Lee

Please check the BIOS settings. I'm not 100% sure, but on a page on the side right, there must be some sort of wake-up option. Check if this option is enabled.

  • Two Partitions of disk for both systems or running under Parallels

I have a 27 "Quad core i7 with 8 GB and 1 hard drive I partitioned the hd in 2 partitions: the boot partition has OS X-Yosemite and works very well. However there are occasions when I need to run OS X - Snow Leopard because some devices that I need to use are not compatible with Yosemite because there is no update for the OEM driver. Frankly I do not have the budget to upgrade the devices, so I need a workaround solution.  Is the drive of the 2 score or running 2 OS under Parallels the best solution? Help, please!

    Thank you

    Joe has.

If the system can operate in native mode of SL (outside of the virtual machine), there is nothing wrong with it.  I currently have a 480 GB SSD with 240 GB Mavericks and my original SL on another partition of 240 GB.  You have to keep 2 backups, one for each system, but that is expected.

On the other hand, if you want both running at the same time, use VM.

VM is usually a puzzle that I reserve for Linux and Windows that need special 'hooks' to run on an Apple and are easier to exploit, because I didn't need "both running simultaneously.

  • Windows Vista is installed on my recovery partition need help for this relocation.

I have an acer extensa 5620, the labtob supplied with Windows Vista already installed. I ended up having to have my computer repaired because it became somehow infected by viruses a friend who I thought was well knowledged in computers, cleaned the virus or so I thought, and replaces Windows Vista with Windows XP I was not asking or giving permission for that to happen. Now, I came to know that Windows XP is not genuine a software which makes sense because I kept getting virus despite the fact that I have several systems antivirus on my computer and to make things worse, I'm sure I have a browser hijack. I tried to find a way, he made the switch to return to Vista because I liked it, but another friend told me I should stored it on my recovery partition. I don't know that much about computers if anyone can help me to find it and tell me step by step to correctly and safely to reinstall Windows Vista because I'm also fairly certain that bad software is whats allowing these viruses. Help, please!

    http://support.Acer.com/

Contact Acer for the EXACT way to do.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11, Acer Alt + F10 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the computer repair option

    See you soon.

  • How can I automate the creation of a partition from scratch for a large number of hosts?

I would like to help with the following steps to cerate a partition scratch on all hosts that have no script, then reprot back to me which guests were to have created.

all my ESXi hosts have a LUN to start with the space, all the boot LUN are named with the same naming that is conveiton "hostname-localstorage.

I would like to come up with a script that will check each host in a cluster for a partition of scaratch, if it does not create the folder ".locker -hostname" on local storrage and then set the partition scratching to the new location. Then the new report to me, which is already a partition from scratch and those to whom he owed create a parition scratch to so I can plan then a good time to put the hosts with newly created partitions scratch mainenance mode and restart their.

I glued the manual way to do it below. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give and it will be well appreciated. I try to avoid to do 1000 hours below. Thanks in advance...

Note: Before you begin, make sure that/tmp/scratch exists. If it does not exist, create it by using the command #mkdir/tmp/scratch.
    1. Open a command prompt where the PowerCLI is installed.
    2. Connecting to host ESXi using the command:

      connect-viserver ESXHostnameOrIP

    3. A list of the data stores accessible by using the ESXi Host command:

      Get-Datastore

    4. Mount a read/write as a PSDrive data store using the command:

New-PSDrive -Name "mounteddatastore" -Root \ -PSProvider VimDatastore -Datastore (Get-Datastore "DatastoreName")

    5. Access the PSDrive new using the command:

      Set-Location mounteddatastore:

    6. Create a directory named only for the ESXi host using the command:

      New-Item "DirectoryName" -ItemType directory

      For example:

      New-Item ".locker-ESXHostname" -ItemType directory

    7. Check the current value of the ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation configuration with the command option:

      Get-VMHostAdvancedConfiguration -Name "ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation"

    8. Change the ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation configuration option, specifying the full path to the directory created in step 6, using the command:

      Set-VMHostAdvancedConfiguration -Name "ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation" -Value "/vmfs/volumes/DatastoreName/DirectoryName"

      For example:

      Set-VMHostAdvancedConfiguration  -Name "ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation" -Value  "/vmfs/volumes/Datastore1/.locker-ESXHostname"

    9. The ESXi host in maintenance mode and restart so that the configuration change to take effect.

    Mike P

I have something similar to use the script below.

I think you'll find that your out in there.

    $configName = 'ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation'

    $mode,$warn = Get-PowerCLIConfiguration | %{$_.DefaultVIServerMode,$_.DisplayDeprecationWarnings}Set-PowerCLIConfiguration -DefaultVIServerMode "Multiple" -DisplayDeprecationWarnings:$false

    Get-VMHost | where {$_.ExtensionData.Config.Product.ProductLineId -eq "embeddedEsx"} | %{    Connect-VIServer -Server $_.Name -User root -Password MyPswd    $scratch = (Get-VMHostAdvancedConfiguration -VMHost $_)[$configName]    $tgtName = ".locker-" + $_.Name.Split('.')[0]    if($scratch -notmatch ($tgtName + "$")){        $ds = Get-Datastore -VMHost $_ | where {$_.Name -match "localstorage"}        if($ds){            Set-Location -Path $ds.DatastoreBrowserPath            New-Item $tgtName -ItemType directory            Set-VMHostAdvancedConfiguration -Name $configName -Value ('/vmfs/volumes/' + $ds.Name + '/' + $tgtName) -Confirm:$false            Set-VMHost -VMHost $_ -State 'Maintenance' -Confirm:$false            Restart-VMHost -VMHost $_ -Confirm:$false            Set-VMHost -VMHost $_ -State 'Connected' -Confirm:$false        }    }    Disconnect-VIServer -Server $_.Name}

    Set-PowerCLIConfiguration -DefaultVIServerMode $mode -DisplayDeprecationWarnings:$warn

It uses the DatastoreBrowserPath that Vitali has suggested.

  • Partitions on SSD for the hypervisor host of vSphere5 (Free Edition)

    Hello

This will be my first installation of a system of 5 hypervisor vSphere (Free Edition). My new PC will contain an SSD (120GB) for the vSphere host and VMs. in addition, it will contain a RAID controller with multiple SATA drives for data. My questions are:

Do I have to create partitions on the SSD drive for installing vSphere 5?

    I read on http://vmetc.com/2009/07/22/best-practices-for-vsphere-esx-4-service-console-partitions/

There is several necessary partiotions. Is the installation program automatically creates those partitions?

Is it possible to store the computer virtual (System of each operating system partition) on this SSD also?

    I will store VMs for 2 x Windows7 (approximately 2x30GB), 1 x FreeNAS, 1 x Linux for Zarafa, 1 x Linux for many other services.

    Kind regards

    Oliver

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Do I have to create partitions on the SSD drive for installing vSphere 5?

No, the installation program will take care of everything for you.

Is it possible to store the computer virtual (System of each operating system partition) on this SSD also?

Yes, the installer will create a VMFS on the SSD volume where you can place these files.

    Good luck!

  • Cannot suspend 500 GB partition on SAN for backup

I'm under Vsphere ESX 4.0 Update 1 backup on a Windows 2003 server using Symantec Backup Exec 12.5  This 2003 server, I have a 750 GB partition on the SAN, which is used as Proxy VCB.  I'm under seven virtual servers Windows 2008 R2 and a Windows 2000 Server.  All the virtual hosts have second partitions that are mapped to the raw LUN.

Can I save all the virtual hosts except a Windows 2008 R2 host.  This host has a 500 GB (488 GB formatted) LUN on the SAN.  All other hosts are less 200 GB on the SAN LUN.    I checked that the VCB Proxy Server sees the 488 GB LUN.  The Backup Exec job fails with the following error:

V-79-57344-38220 - Virtual PC "FS3" backup failed. VMware VCB framework reported the following error

Error: another error occurred: failed to create snapshot: could not suspend a file system.

If I remove the LUN from the host Windows 2008 R2, the backup operation is complete.  If I add the LUN to return in, it fails again.  The virtual host is not yet in production, and the partition on the LUN is always a 488 GB vacuum.  So far, nothing is installed on this host except VMware Tools.

The problem seems to be that the backup process cannot suspend this large LUN.

Do I need a prior custom freeze and thaw the scripts?  If so, which should contain it?   Is there anything else I should look at to get this partiion to back up?

So the problem is this file delta for the snapshot can grow up to the size of the original, in your case 500 GB disk, but the 1 MB block gives the maximum of 256 GB file size. To prevent such a situation ESX fails to create the snapshot.

You need 2 MB block, at least on the data store with the virtual machine files, so it would allow you to create files up to 512 GB

  • Is Time Capsule partitioning without danger for files?

    Hello

I have more storage on my Macbook Air and am frequently warned to remove the files, but all the files on my computer are completely necessary.

I have a 3 TB Time Capsule. It is safe (and smart) to partition the Time Capsule and store files on this drive? I've seen conflicting reports on the partitioning of the time Capsule, if it's a good idea or a disastrous.

It is not normally possible to partition a Time Capsule. Get a regular external drive, put your files on it and thus save this drive.
