Passing of mod_plsql at APEX

Hello

In an application to control our production process, we use mod_plsql with Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.3 and database Oracle 10.2.0.4. The application Oracle HTTP Server and its module mod_plsql server serves html pages that provides the database.

I would like to know:

-Is it easy to migrate from Oracle APEX running exclusively on the 10.2.0.4 this installer database? We want to stop using the Oracle application server in order to save money on licenses.

-If it's not simple (for example, too many changes in html or pl/sql), is there an alternative that we can stop using Oracle Application Server?

I'm sorry if these questions have been answered before. I searched the forum and I don't always get it.

Thank you very much

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

I'm not sure that you understand exactly what is Apex. The apex is a complete programming application built atop mod_plsql, as in the database technology, acting as a web application that uses html to one kind of application which is then transmitted to a browser server. It is not a simple replacement of the OAS.

In your case, you have built an application using mod_plsql paradigm, but in order to place this Summit, you will need to rebuild the application in the Apex. You can simply run a custom application built by their Summit mod_plsql. The advantage that you will find is however that Apex is much easier than the conventional mod_plsql environment to generate an application. Also, obviously the level of database should not change as its still all in the same database.

In your case you seem to be keen, license cost of reasons, to get away from OAS. Apex remains a kind of application server. The good news is that you are not limited to the OAS. There are a number of options, which according to the requirements and configuration are different costs and licensing options from free to full OAS or weblogic.

I hope I've interpreted it correctly your question and I did feel to respond.

    We have a few applications in the Apex 3.2.1 (i.e. mod_plsql) which have not been displaced in Production yet. We intend to move to Apex 4.0 with Oracle listener as soon as they are available (we don't want turn on any web server mod_plsql). What will be the migration process? My apps work and look the same when I opened the Apex 4.0? All the features, formatting, etc. will be lost?

  • APEX and UTF-8 FAQ autour?

    As 'The Application Builder User Guide' is fairly quiet when it comes to support UTF-8, is - can anyone recommend an APEX FAQ about UTF-8 support in APEX?

    Best regards, Tom

    Hi Tom,

    The answer is 'no '. It's not an easy (or even feasible) way to do this without converting your AL32UTF8 database character set.

    Details:

    As you've already identified, there are utf-8 characters which cannot be stored in a database of character value WE8MSWIN1252. Then only a type NVARCHAR2 data type could be considered for store a utf-8 in a database of the WE8MSWIN1252 character, you have no practical way to move these bytes from the browser to the Web server to the database for the NVARCHAR2 data type, at least certainly not in an application for the APEX.

    The character set of the 'customer' to the database (in this case, SST/mod_plsql or APEX Listener) must be AL32UTF8. All pages served by APEX page encoding must be utf-8. For various reasons, but we will just consider this as a requirement for the time being.

    You have now an AL32UTF8 client talk to a WEMSWIN1252 database. The conversion of characters will be between these two components. So at the point where your character utf-8 is in the database, the character is already changed. In addition, the entry points into the engine of the APEX are all mainly VARCHAR2. PL/SQL variables, by definition, are in the character set of the database. So even if you imagined a way to avoid the character conversion between the client and the database, at the time where it 'touches' the engine of the APEX, it would be a local variable of VARCHAR2, NVARCHAR2 no and again, being converted and ultimately corrupted.

    I know you're probably dealing with a legacy database, and/or a system of third parties who may require the WE8MSWIN1252, or many other systems that may not be able to bear an AL32UTF8 conversion, but it is really not a great way to support utf-8 data via an APEX application, if the underlying database character set can support only the data.

    Many years ago an AL32UTF8 database performance was considerably worse than a US7ASCII or WE8MSWIN1252 WE8ISO8859P1 database. But these problems have long been rectified. And, as one of my colleagues has said before, "the language of the Internet is utf-8. Basically, if you create a new Oracle database today, there no compelling reason to not create this character set AL32UTF8.

    Sorry I don't have better news for you.

    MIT thank wurde.

  • Type MIME and PDF download apex 4.2.1

    Hello

    A few days ago we went to Apex 4.2.1 and I wonder if there is a bug in the article "file browse...» ».
    In an older version (don't know if 4.0 or 3.2) everything worked fine, but when I'm now downloading PDF files via the file browser, Apex inserts "application/download" or "text/html" as MIME type in apex_application_files.
    Trying to download them logically crashes, because the browser receives the incorrect MIME.
    But only recognized with PDF files... Download e.g. JPGs or TXTs get is the right MIME type.
    As a workaround I hardcode the MIME type ' application/pdf', if the file ends in ".pdf", but I prefer to get it from the apex_application_files table.
    I'm the only one having this problem or knows already?

    Thank you very much

    Hi Daniel,.

    Do you use EPG, mod_plsql or APEX listener? Have you changed the mechanism of connection after upgrading to 4.2.1?
    If you use the earpiece of the APEX, which version do you use? What browser and version do you use to download the file? It reproduces with other browsers as well?

    Hello

    In Oracle apps 11.5.10.2, we have developed a few pages in APEX (version4.0) and integrated into e-business (i.e. access pages of the apex of the responsibility of e-business-> menu-> function)

    now, we are trying to upgrade to R12 Oracle applications, where mod_plsql is no longer supported.

    I wanted to know what is the best option and the simple to integrate the apex with e-business pages? and the details of how integrate.

    1 http server separated with mod_plsql
    2 apex listner (AL)

    in the second option, we can install AL on tech-stack even as e-business or do we install on separate tech-battery?

    Rgds,
    -Kamal

    Hi Kamal,

    I think that the steps that you need to configure the integration are correct. Use of the gateway FND simply install the patch and then call the GWY.jsp of the function of the form with the profile that contains the URL of the Apex. With R12, you must use a jsp page to call Apex mod_plsql is not supported. Still, you need a listener OSH or separate Apex in support of mod_plsql for installation of the Apex.

    I added a tabular report to my request and a tab for a single level tab defined in the Application by using the wizard to the tabular report. I have seen this error in tabular when forms there is a lot of data. You have a large number of columns in your report? Some columns are big enough? The number of lines per page? Given that your condition will probably avoid you to reduce the number of columns (the company needs probably to see), reduce the number of lines per page. This is generally useful.

  • Trouble with variables

    Can someone help me figure out how I can do the following?

    I have a query stored in the "Queries", column "Code". For example: "" Select * from sales; ""

    I can do this to return the stored query results:
    declare

    begin
    select code into v_sql from queries where id=13;
    return v_sql;
    end;
    It works well, but I can't get a variable works correctly. That is to say. I want to use a date for the WHERE clause.

    Something like:
    Query:
    Select * from sales where sale_date = :v_date;

    Code:
    declare
     v_sql varchar2(1000);
     v_date date;
    begin
    v_date := to_date('01/07/2012', 'DD/MM/YYYY');
    select code into v_sql from queries where id=13;
    return v_sql;
    end;
    Obviously, this doesn't work. Is this possible to do?

    An essential difference is when you use the Apex.

    With a normal client, written in Java, .net, C/C++ and so on, that you would typically use the PL/SQL to apply the logic required, creates the SQL cursor and returns the handle for this SQL cursor in the memory of the server as a reference cursor (pointer) to the client.

    There are several ways to apply the PL/SQL code that creates the ref cursor. This approach uses static SQL like on {message identifier: = 10390039}. Another approach uses dynamic SQL, as shown in {message identifier: = 10805597}.

    The complexity of this approach is mandatory. You can dynamically create a SQL with a variable number of bind variables. However, the ref cursor requires coding with a fixed set of bind variables. A ref cursor doesn't support dynamic linking (where the number of bind variables is only known at run time). There are alternatives - such as DBMS_SQL (which supports the dynamic SQL statements, dynamic linking and dynamic recovery) and then by converting the variable of DBMS_SQL cursor in a Ref mouse pointer that can be passed to the client.

    Well, then, how is this different from the Apex?

    Apex of PL/SQL. He cannot use ref Cursor that you create with your PL/SQL code and pass it to render in a report. REF CURSOR is designed to be used by external clients in this way. No PL/SQL.

    Apex uses DBMS_SQL for this - it's the equivalent of ref cursor in PL/SQL.

    So if you want to pass a SQL for Apex, you do not like a ref cursor You do it rather like a SQL string - where the string contains the SQL statement Dynamics (and bind variable names) to use. Apex receives this and he uses DBMS_SQL parse, link and run like a slider. (in fact, it uses the system version of DBMS_SQL that allows him to run the cursor as the owner of this application of the Apex).

    With Apex, there
    (a) returns a SQL statement
    (b) ensure that the SQL includes the names of variables relevant to the link

    Simple example. A function that can be called from any page of the Apex to return the SQL code required to make a report of the Ministry employee.

    create or replace function EmployeesInDept( deptVar varchar2 ) is
    begin
      return(
       'select * from emp where deptno = :'||deptVar
      );
    end;

    This seems a little weird. A normal customer would have passed the dept value. Apex needs to pass the variable there (page element) that contains the value.

    This function will be used as follows on page 123 app Apex:

    --// page item P123_DEPT contains deptid
    EmployeesInDept( deptVar => 'P123_DEPT' );

    And on page 234:

    --// page item P234_DEPT contains deptid
    EmployeesInDept( deptVar => 'P234_DEPT' );

    The alternative is more complex - create a PL/SQL procedure that receives the value of the variable actual (as opposed to the variable name). Create the cursor. Through the DBMS_SQL. Display the cursor as an html, via PTHreport. But it goes much of the rendering features of Apex report in this custom procedure - and results in a huge loss in the reports feature.

    Comment - dynamic SQL approach as described above is practically an exception in the Apex. It's often much easier to create several regions report (each report supporting a set of combinations of filter criteria) and then apply the conditional rendering rules to determine which report to render to the specified filter criteria combination.

  • Problem with the images in standlone mode directory

    Hello forum, I have Apex 4.1 and try to migrate the listener to mod_plsql at Apex listener 4.1.1 Apache standalone

    In the database, the flow_image_prefix in the apex_040100.wwv_flows table column has the value "/ k /", and in dads.conf the Alias tip /k/ to "/ app/oracle/product/xxxxxxxx/Apache/Apache/images41 / '. I start the listener by - Dapex.images=/soft/oracle/oracle/product/xxxxxxxx/Apache/Apache/images41/, and the listener starts. The listenerConfigure, the listenerStatus and the listenerAdmin URL works fine

    When I try to go to the login page (.../apex/f?p=4550) it displays a blank page. In the source code, I see references to "/ k /", so I decided to perform the following instructions:
    update apex_040100.wwv_flows set flow_image_prefix = '/soft/oracle/oracle/product/xxxxxxxx/Apache/Apache/images41/';
    commit;
    Now, the source code shows hrefs to files that exist and the oracle user has privileges to read, but the login page (.../apex/f?p=4550) always shows a blank page

    Any advice?

    Hi Alfonso,.

    update apex_040100.wwv_flows set flow_image_prefix = '/soft/oracle/oracle/product/xxxxxxxx/Apache/Apache/images41/';
    commit;

    First of all, I recommend using the functions provided by your APEX installation package to change the prefix of image, i. e. run the reset_image_prefix.sql script in the directory of public services of the installation package. It's well documented vell, for example, in the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21611_01/doc.11/e21058/trouble.htm]APEX Setup Guide of the receiver.

    Anyway, APEX listener in stand-alone Mode supports + / i / + as a prefix of images (which is the prefix of images by default, said by the way). If you want or need a different context, you must deploy APEX listener on a regular JEE container.
    So, to solve this problem in Standlone mode, use reset_images_prefix.sql to set the prefix of your images + / i / + and you're done.
    Note that you should always configure the path system APEX listener is supposed to use to serve this virtual context. It seems to be + / app/oracle/oracle/product/xxxxxxxx/Apache/Apache/images41 / + in your case.
