Patching ESXi 4.1 installed with custom image

Hello

Our company has several ESXi 4.x - hosts installed with HP or DELL-customized images.

If I install the patches with VUM without doing something more, simply by using the patches automatically downloaded VMware, they then somehow will overwrite the DELL/HP-installation custom ESXi? (Leaving me with a fully functioning but the host not custom).

Or are the standard VMware patches without affecting the part 'tailor-made' installation?

Concerning

Matthias

The patches that you apply do not overwrite OEM customizations.

http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/ESXi_management.pdf :

The basic hypervisor code can also contain custom code provided by suppliers of servers (OEM) that provides additional features, such as monitoring and hardware support information. These customizations would be present, for example, if had ESXi embedded format of the manufacturer of the server or a customized version of ESXi has been installed on

the hard drive. Any update to an existing installation of ESXi integrates automatically the correct update of this custom code.

I'm trying machines Acer Iconia W510 image with an image of Windows 10 we did. We have already photographed a few tens of individuals. A dozen, however, refuse to take the picture. They are currently on Windows 8. The image on an external hard drive that plug us into the USB port.

The steps I take to the imaging process are as follows: "Change PC settings"->"update and recovery"-> "recovery"->"Advanced startup" and I click on the button 'Restart now', who sends me to a screen with three options, continue to windows 8.1, troubleshooting, and turn off your PC.

I select 'Troubleshoot '->' Advanced'-> "Image system recovery"

    Hi Ryan,

According to the description, you can not install updates and the this issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are met:

    1. The Windows Update database is damaged.
    2. Antivirus software is configured to scan the folder % Windir%\SoftwareDistribution.
    3. Service (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not receive a content link header.
    4. A required system file is incorrectly registered.

Try it out below mentioned methods and see if it works for you.

    Method 1

First of all, I suggest you run Windows update troubleshooting tool to get the problem automatically detected and corrected. This fixit checks the configuration of the Windows Update components and repairs, fixes incorrect Windows Update the locations of data and records of necessary services. For the race, the troubleshooter refer to sub article what can I do if I have problems to install updates.

    Windows Update: FAQ

    Method 2

I suggest you to check if you are able to access Windows Update services and also make sure that the following services are started. If it is not started, follow the listed below as follows:

    a. press the Windows key + R, type "services.msc" (without the quotes) in the Run dialog box to start, and press enter.

    b. Locate the Windows Update service.

    c. right-click on the Windows Update service and select Properties.

    e. click Start under Service status.

    f. click OK.

    g. Repeat steps c to f for the following services :

CSP & Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

If these steps do not help to solve the problem, you can proceed to the step below and check.

    Method 3

If the problem persists I suggest to reset the Windows Update components and for this, try to run the fixit described in the following article. If you already tried the fixit even before that I ask of you rerun the fixit.

  • Patching ESXi 5.1 U1 U2-> custom VIBs

    Hi guys,.

I have an ESXi host I plan to patch. Patching of hosts in the past never gave me trouble, but this host is different because I'm under additional VIBs thereon (LSI PMI provider for example).

If I use the following command:

    • software esxcli vib install /vmfs/volumes/datastoreNameHere/fileNameHere.zip d

My custom VIBs will disappear when the hotfix is applied?

    Thank you!

The installation of a lot of patches will replace the vibs included in the package, so if there are additional vibs will not be affected. In any case, what you can do to do this is to run the command with the -dry - run option to find out what will be changed. Other use install , you can also run the command esxcli with Update replacing vibs that have been updated.

  • Upgrade with custom image

    Hello

I am currently in the process of transition to ESXi 5.1 to 6.0 ESXi.

Normally, I would do a fresh install, however this time I opted to select the upgrade option.

Do the upgrade, I use a custom ESXi HP Image because this will contain all the latest drivers for the physical host.

I guess that all the latest drivers will install even though I chose the upgrade as opposed to a new installation?

    Thanks in advance

    Gooose

Yes, the drivers included in ISO custom HP will install automatically during an upgrade everything as during a new installation.

  • Cisco Custom Image patch

    Hello

I installed a custom Image Cisco ESXi 5.5 in a UCS C220 M3 and I would like to know if I can install patches using Update Manager as I do with a default image. I don't know if I'm having problems because some patches to update the drivers of ESXi and could, for example, replace the Cisco enic and the fnic.

I know that HP and Dell have their deposits that I can use with the Update Manager, but can not find something like that for cisco.

    Thank you

    Hi theire,.

so in recent years, I stayed away from custom provider Isos. Reason is that Vmware is not happy with the custom ones when facing problems. They are pointing to another seller trying to manage Ticket support.

As for that so I just used for years a clean default Vmware Image as well as all the necessary drivers I inject later. Manually or via the Update Manager.

Had more problems with Isos by default then with fully customized supplier ones.

But back to the Question.  If you want to update the driver for Cisco, then you could download those most recent supported because you're model and add in you're Manager Update.

    Best regards

  • R710/R720 - Dell customized Image of VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 2 - megaraid_sas version specific?

That I improve a R710 and two v5.5 (Dell image) to v5.5 U2 ESXi ESXi R720 using the image of Dell here:

    www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

The documentation "Upgrade Guide to ESXi 5.5 using Dell customized Image" here:

    www.Dell.com/.../manuals

indicates that a specific version of the megaraid_sas driver must be installed.

Is the version megaraid_sas that installs with the image of Dell U2 v5.5 not the right version?

I just ran the upgrade on a R710 and it's the megaraid_sas version installed:

    ~ # vmkload_mod s megaraid_sas | grep Version
    Version: Version 06.803.73.00, build: 1331820, Interface: 9.2 inspired: August 22, 2014

    Thank you.

    Hello

It lists the R720 and R710 systems supported and both link to the same page, so the customized version is the same for both servers. Is the version listed in the reference guide for A02

    megaraid_sas - 06.803.73.00

    Page 5 ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_software/esuprt_virt_solutions/vmware-esxi-5_Reference%20Guide6_en-us.pdf

This is the same version that he shows for your installation on the R710 so that seems correct.

  • Reference Dell Custom Image for Vmware ESXi 5.1

    Hello

where can I find the custom image Dell for ESXi 5.1.

I can only find the ISO Images for 5.0 (4.1). But none for 5.1. Unfortunately the original ISO Vmware image will not work because it does not find a NETWORK card in my Dell R420. Which seems to occur as long as the original image from Vmware does not include the card driver NETWORK Dell to the R420.

I saw that today there is a download section at support.Dell.com for ESXi 5.1 with about 36 files to download. But no ISO Image for ESXi 5.1 as it is 5.0 and before.

Hope someone can help or knows how Dell will bring the custom image.

    Thank you!

Here is the link to the ISO image of the ESXi 5.1 custom newly released Dell. Sorry for the delay to everyone - out www.dell.com/.../poweredge-r620

  • How do I know if the patch has already been installed on ESXi 5.0?

I describe the installation of patches ESXi on a group of servers (quarterly) who have not access to Internet, Update Manager is not an option.  I would like to be able to identify if a particular patch has already been installed so that I can jump through a script.

On ESX 3.5, you might look to see if it was in etc/vmware/patchdb/patch_name.xml, but I can't find something similar in ESXi 5.0.

Vib esxcli software controls do not seem to accept/meet with the zip file names I can say.  They seem to dig deeper into zip files that I want to go.

The closest I can find is 'grep - c patchname /var/log/esxupdate.log' for a given parcel (i.e. ESXi-500-201207001) and if there are in the file then it has probably been installed.  In addition, there is no clean text that I can pick up on as "Patch ESXi-500-xxxxxxxxx sucessfully installed" that slows me down. This approach has problems if the script is interrupted in the middle of the installation of a patch. When it is run again, it think the patch as it has already been installed and we could actually lose a patch.

If there is no way for this identify programmatically, I always install each patch in my quarterly updates (until the patch becomes obsolete).  I can't depend on my user to always run these quarterly updates, so I have to be able to catch up its system, if he missed a quarter.

    Appreciate any suggerstions

There is no need to install the patches separately one after the other if you use a profile of the host to update your hosts.

Basically, a host profile is a set of files VIB forming a certain level of patch of ESXi.

    1. download the bundle off line ESXi500-201209001 (or what ever is the most recent) from the portal to download patch (a direct link is https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/OFFLINE/release-360-20120918-947362/ESXi500-201209001.zip)

    2. download the zip file in a shared data store

    3. update your hosts with the command

    esxcli software profile update /path/to/ESXi500-201209001.zip d Pei ESXi 5.0.0 - 20120904001-standard

(change/path/to the directory of the correct data store)

  • Install ESXi 3.5.0 with RAID5

    Hi all

I have problems get ESXi 3.5 installed on a Bay RAID5, I created

on three Barracuda SATA Seagate 1 TB drives. I have configured the SATA

drives in RAID in BIOS, created table with all the HD being RAID5

members and booted from the CD/DVD drive. After accepting the EULA and

come to the point of installation image of ESXi, each Member of the RAID

drive is listed separately instead of a single logical device (as I

expected). After I complete the installation of the image on the first hard disk, I

Restart, then an error message "no boot device found".

For troubleshooting purposes and to determine if it is a BIOS disk or

driver problem, I deleted the RAID array and configured the BIOS to use

the HD SATA as IDE instead of RAID. When I do that, the ESXi

Installer does not even see the discs and I get an installation failure

error after you accept the EULA.

Other HW specifications that may be relevant are:

    • ASUS P6T Mobo

    • Intel Core i7 processor

    • 6 GB of Corsair DDR3 RAM

    • AMI BIOS v02.61

    • IDE Toshiba CD/DVD R/W

    Any advice?

If it is a controller shipped as Intel ICH * R series, then it is most likely a software RAID controller.   Drivers with ESXi support not the soft-RAID / host-RAID.

    Hello

We have a requirement of click to call in installing 10.5 UCCX with customer website (user input) for our client, anyone who tested it in the laboratory/prod settings?

    Thank you!!
    Magali

    Hello magali.

It is possible to deploy with UCCX HTTP trigger type. To get the number of customer via the HTTP trigger to the script. Then we can place the outgoing number of customer to campaign or appeal directly to the customer and place this call to the QSC.

There are two scripts for web reminder in Cisco repository of scripts, see this http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/cont...

  • Will not pump light customer image D90D7 using WDM 5.0

I'm trying to shoot a picture of one of my thin clients in D90D7 that I updated the image of the most recent (Windows Embedded standard 7), the most recent version of HAgent (6.3.2.54) and installed a few applications that will use all users.  I'm in WDM 5.0, do a right click on the device in Device Manager, select Get Image device, give a name to the image, check the box under Image Merlin Options to shoot and the option button not PXE under Option imagery (neither that neither PXE worked, I tried both), click Next, then finish.  I can see the demand package in the Update Manager, and he left time 'Now' to 'Boot' after a reboot of the machine.  It then starts in the image upload screen Pre-os as it should.  Problem is the download of the OS (which begins by) not going nowhere.  The status bar is located at 0% until the end of a few minutes, I get the following message:

Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

/ bin/sh: can't access TTY; disabled job control

    / bin #.

Does that mean something to someone?  I tried this 3 times and never further...

Batman - I've seen this behavior intermittently on the old bootagent factory and upgrading to the latest 3.1.9 bootagent resolves the behavior.  I posted in your other thread associated with this deployment.  You use the last picture - but they release pictures of the manufacturing base in the same cycle of release management tools.  As for your security updates noted - there are updates to management for WDM Mgmt., non - pxe Imaging agents and the Agent of WCM.

Apply the WDM 3 patches out for 5 WCM (MR1, MR2, and MR1.1).  This will upgrade the HAgent and included BootAgent packages that you need to deploy.  Once the BA is reclassified to 3.1.9 you should be able to do the test by pulling and pushing your custom images.

  • a few questions about ESXi and SAN CF with HP P2000 G3

    Hello everyone!

I am new to ESXi and SAN, then I need help for her.

I have Encolosure C7000 system with 4 blades BL460c already installed ESXi 5.1U1 (HP custome ISO image). Everything works fine now, but I do not understand something:

-What is the management network which I use vSphare Client to connect to? It is a private network to manage ESXi servers what difference with VMnetwork used by Virtual Machines? Because I've set up an IP address for this connection manually, but it is of course separate with IP addresses, I used on Virtual Machines.

-If my system has problem, so I have to reinstall ESXi, license keys can be used again? Already, I have 8 license key for 4 blades (2 CPUs per server), but they have not yet used. Because I am new to ESXi, cause I had to reinstall ESXi several times to understand.

-When I install successful ESXi, I don't know how to start working with SAN. What should I configure P2000 before it be plugged into the SAN switch? Or I can plug it then config later? Because I don't see it on the ESXi server. And on the OS I installed on the Guest Virtual Machines, I see nothing new in Device Manager. I thought that this guest operating system will detect the mezzanine card. But I see only mezzanine card that connect to the P2000 by SAN switch in ESXi (see image here http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/684/dsc04088k.jpg ). To my knowledge, I think that ESXi server have to detect the P2000 as hardware device. Can someone teach me step by step install and configure a San on ESXi? Yes, it's a separate network used only for traffic management between ESXi hosts and vCenter - it is also the network used to connect to the environment - that's different, then the network used by your virtual machines

-If my system has problem, so I have to reinstall ESXi, license keys can be used again? Already, I have 8 license key for 4 blades (2 CPUs per server), but they have not yet used. Because I am new to ESXi, cause I had to reinstall ESXi several times to understand.

Yes the license keys can be reused, and if you use vCenter licenses will be managed by vCenter

-When I install successful ESXi, I don't know how to start working with SAN. What should I configure P2000 before it be plugged into the SAN switch? Or I can plug it then config later? Yes, you will be able to configure the San later - by default, the virtual machine will not see the SAn, as it is virtualized by your ESXi host - all the VM will see is a virtual SCSi disk - this doc's guide to vmware for storage - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-511-storage-guide.pdf - you can visit the website of HP they might have documentation on configuring P2000 for vSphere -.

  • Cisco UCS 260 M 2 5.5 U3 - custom image and compatibility

TAC has a customer turned and pointed toward a compatibility table for an installed UCS - C 260M 2, stating that the firmware of the UCS and the latest version of Vmware is not supported.

They are suggesting that the client moves to fimware 1.5 (9) and they use a customized image of Cisco for Vmware.

This facility is for UC/EAC, so I have to make sure that the versions supported in the docwiki for these products as well is the Vmware version.

    http://www.Cisco.com/Web/TechDoc/UCS/interoperability/matrix/matrix.html

The drop down menu shows Vmware 5.5 U3 is a supported version and I find that 5.5 is supported in the dockwiki. So far so good.

However, when I try to find a custom image for 5.5 U3 image only I find it:

    https://my.VMware.com/Web/VMware/details?ProductID=353&downloadGroup=OEM...

VMware 5.5 U3a. The version of the driver specified on this page do not match driver versions indicating the interoperability matrix must be used.

First, is there a customized image of Cisco for 5.5 U3, could someone point me to this image so that these versions of the drivers are the same?

Secondly, can I use ISO customized Cisco to upgrade a vanilla install Vmware 5.1 U3?

    -GDR

    Greetings.

The Cisco Custom images are just a collection of pilots who were up-to-date at the time wherever it has been presented to VMware.  It is expected that iso custom will exactly match the interoperability matrix (it could have at the time, it was created), but at least provide newer drivers than what is usually installed in the general VMware releases.

The interoperability matrix will list the specific driver, i.e. igb driver intel 1 GB network interface.  Download you the version of the driver for VMware site and install adapt you to the requirements notified by the interoperability matrix.

You should be able to use a custom Cisco ISO to upgrade.  When your custom installation ISO analyzes your existing system, it will see a higher version of the drivers/VIBs and update those.  The Cisco with custom isos are simply the original VMware updated versions the drivers injected into them.

    Thank you
