Pavilion 500-420nl: installation of a new GPU in HP Pavilion 500-420nl

Hello everybody, basically, I bought a HP Pavilion 500-420nl PC and decided to improve a bit with a new power SUPPLY and GPU. The new PSU: Thermaltake Berlin 630W and the GPU is Sapphire R9 270 X double-X OC. The problem is that when I insert the GPU and connect the 2 connectors of 6 pins, I get only a black screen. There is no beeps, the fan runs but the screen remains black. I deleted the old GPU drivers and the new one is plugged correctly, but there is only a black screen. The motherboard should be compatible with the GPU, seeing that it has a PCI-E x 16 slot 3.0. What could be the problem?

    Hello again @nitrox,

Unfortunately, I can't make a specific recommendation on a motherboard. I can however advise you to make sure that the motherboard that you buy not if you are going to use the same case is a form of plant uATZ and if you want to use the graphics card you bought ensure you that the motheboard has PCIe 3.0 expanstion slots. You'll also shop for a new processor and RAM probably as well. Shop and you can find packages where a motherboard, processor and RAM are all included.

I hope this helps. Have a great day and thanks again for the display on the HP Forums.

  • Pavilion P6720TR: Installed new GPU does not work

I upgraded my old PC pre-built 2011 with Corsair VS 450 & Asus GTX 750 it. I installed my new GPU and everytime I turn on my desktop computer is blocked on startup of HP logo and it will emit several beeps. I think that HP motherboards are not compatible with the new GPU OR the HP bios are totally incompatible. There are HP experts who can help me with this problem?

The issue that you are facing, it's that the new video card requires a motherboard that has a UEFI BIOS.

Your card mother HP 2011 has a BIOS that is inherited and is not compatible with the newer video cards. Install a compatible with legacy BIOS video card and it will work in your HP PC.

Unfortunately, mixing the new and the old BIOS technology just doesn't work. It has nothing to do with the fact that it is HP. you would face the same situation with any motherboard 2011. These are the days of the legacy BIOS. 2012 and new PCs and laptops use UEFI BIOS.

  • New GPU building only or full?

Sorry if this is a tired topic, but information that is older than 3 months are old for me. I was wondering if I could benefit from upgrading my graphics card only and thus hold off on a new construction for a while. My current system:

I was when I built this system of shooting HDV, but am now shooting with a 5 d Mk III DSLR and a Canon EOS C100. I save DNxHD externally on Atomos Ninja Blade.

Although this system seems pretty well balanced, I have never been able to do much more basic editing with effects in real-time of first, since anything else (as noise reducers, MB looks and effects of the red giant) pretty much paralyses reading my system, rendered, export. Even with the HDV footage, I was never satisfied with the performance. I recently updated my 2 drives 0-4 discs 16 RAID storage to RAID 0, which seems to have contributed to transfer a bit rates.

I wonder if the GTX 580 is defective.  It seems to work pretty hot slot load to 60 degrees or more, unless I pushed the fan speed to the max. I can't change GPU clocks speeds or other default settings without the display crashing. That's why I'm considering a new GPU. In any case, I intend to build or buy a new PC within a year, but it would be great if a GPU could extend the life of it.

For a new built complete, I need to know if now is the time to do so. Or, is it a new series of mother/Processor Board on the horizon that I should wait? The frustrating thing about these types of discussions of the forum, is that the information is quickly dated and obsolete.

60 c is not outside the norm for Nvidia GPU, especially the 500 series cards. The GPU is immune to the bottom of the range 80 c and will often strike up to the 1960s under load. Fan profiles may indeed that some, but that seems normal here. Synchronizing the card upward can certainly cause instability, according to the bios settings and the power supply of the system. I don't know if a 760GTX4GB could make a big difference with the effects that you list here, but that would be the card to get with this system. This system will not push the 700 series above the cards. Your limit at this point is really the CPU but that can at least you tide over until you're ready for a new system.

  • Working Group stopped after the installation of the new wireless router

My working group stopped working after the installation of the new wireless router.  Router was switched were to move from DSL to fiber optic.

I have a very simple home with two laptops working group, the two are connected with a wireless router.  A PC is running XP with the updates and service packs; the other PC is Windows 7 Home premium.  This working group was running without problems for a few years.  The Working Group has been used to share files between two laptops.  Internet access was through the DSL wireless router and print was with a wireless printer, without going through the working group.

I had my DSL set out to free fiber optic last week, which meant that a new wireless router has been installed by my local phone company.  Internet works fine; wireless printer works.  The working group no longer works.  When I try to connect from XP to Win7 and I click on mode workgroup computers, I get this message:

WorkGroupName is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found.

I tried to create a new working group, the new name for the same workgroup on both machines, but this did not help.  Working groups are supposed to be simple; This seems to be a problem on the new router - telco tech support says that nothing is stuck on the router. I don't believe them.

What version of XP you use (Home or Pro)?

Can you access the Win 7 a XP computer?

You have identical accounts, passwords on both computers?

If all that was done was to change routers without making any changes on the computers, the most likely cause of the problem is a third party (other than Windows) firewall on at least one of the computers.  Being by default, a router automatically assigns IP addresses to computers on your local network.  Different brands of routers, but use different address ranges.  For example, Cisco/Linksys routers typically use the 192.168 form addresses. 1.1 with 192.168. 1. 254, while the D-Link routers typically use 192.168.1 to 192.168.0.0. 254.  A firewall configured to allow only the first IP range blocks communication to the scope of the latter.

So... What is the name and version of your anti-virus program?
What other security software is installed?

On every laptop computer, open a command prompt window
for XP: start > run > cmd > OK
for Win 7: type cmd.exe in the search box and press enter
In the black command prompt window, type the following command and press enter
    ipconfig

Please provide the values for the following for the adapter wireless of each computer
    IP (XP)
    IPv4 address (Win 7)
    Default gateway

  • dv4-2045dx re-ball of soldering and new GPU. Worth it?

While we all know the story, older laptops tend to GPU frying. I did enough research now to know the following:

I can buy a card mother reburbished and place shims between the GPU and the radiator, add some thermal paste and I hope the thing works for a few months.

I can have someone weld in a new GPU (2010) and fix the problem for good.

Is this useful? I bought a new card on eBay, but it does not solve the problem. Finished cooking my motherboard and it worked for about six months until what the hard drive went bad, and now the GPU has gone wrong again. I'm tired of opening up this computer and not fixing the problem. I'd just like to operate and sell so I can buy a new tablet. I don't really need this computer, but if I can get it fixed for good, it's not worth?

    Thoughts?

I'm not real comfortable with the idea of setting temporarily and selling it. In my opinion honest, it provided the best service as possible, his best days are behind it, and there is no sense that delay the inevitable.

  • Cursor not moving/working after the installation of the new keyboard

I just finished replacing the keyboard on my HP G72 due to spill water on the keyboard a few days ago & some keys no longer work after laptop parched. However, I find that things are not as they should because I can't get the cursor to move. I do not use a mouse & rely on the touchpad. I tried to remove the keyboard & reinstall several times but all about no. avail & wonder if anyone can give me some advice, even if it is the keyboard itself may be defective & I need to buy a new one. I don't want to just assume there is a problem with this new keyboard only to discover that the problem is somewhere else & that there is other things I should be doing or trying.

I had to install a new keyboard on this computer laptop sometimes last year afer having a similar accident with the flow of the water, but the installation of the new time was pretty much a piece of cake, I followed the guides on the screen, I have been looking & everything was perfect, once I had installed the new keyboard.

Thank you if you can advise.

    Hello

If possible, try a USB mouse for awhile. This way if the slider works, you can try reinstalling the drivers for the touchpad that could solve the problem. If the cursor does not work with an external mouse also then the problem could be hardware related.

Sometimes to repeat the installation process of the keyboard all over again also helps.

  • Pavilion 500-329: to upgrade my power supply for my new GPU

Hi, I recently got and 660 GTX ti as a gift from a Guild mate. Unfortunately, the stock PSU is a potato (very) disappointing 300W. Who also likes to scream when I'm still so things like move my mouse. Wonderful innit!

in any case, I've been shopping around for a PSU that could fuel at least my graphics card for the recommended specifications, 450w, unlike what is 240 R7 in the system right now, which is recommended to have 400w... And I managed to find one that meets at my expecations in size and power output.

I just want to see if someone has comments on the sizes to enter in the case of Pavvy 500-329.

Since your Canadian, I took the liberty of a few analyses available of the PSU.

Your current system has a R7-240 which is inspired by 30W.  The GTX660ti attracts 150W.  The net difference is 120W.  The original power supply is 300W but it is a maximum.  You'd never see your car top SPEED!

I would like to see you get a Corsair CX CDN 96,19 600W as your choice. Here are the specifications.   It's 80 + efficient power consumption curve and focus not on your system. It is also an RIGHT in your system.  If cost is a concern, then I suggest you step down for the 500W version.  It's 20 less CDN.  Its also an exact adjustment.
