Pavilion a1230n w XP: Replace hard disk & recovery disks don't work

Replace hard disk & recovery disks do not work. Create the new partition & Microsft Recovery Console ONLY the options available on the disk recovery TOOLS. Recovery of Microsoft stops at the page "Preparing the system to install Windows XP".  Pressing enter at this stage of the results in "cannot find EULA" message & turns off the computer... already old version of XP (media center) via another set of discs, but want software HP original back!

If it starts from the cd Recovery Tools but not the recovery DVDs, then you can have a bad set. Of course, it could be laser dvd in your CD/DVD drive too. The dvd function works before reinstallation?

Don't see them not listed in HP longer, but are available HERE for $27

    Hello

You can run a test on your hard drive to make sure if its in a State of operation or do not use the link below

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00439024

If the above test fails, you will need to replace the hard drive. You can buy the hard drive by going to the HP service center or any place where you want. To reinstall the operating system, you will need to buy the recovery disk set by calling HP techinical support.

  • SMART Hard Disk Error - replace hard disk?

A couple of days, I got an error when I start my computer (HP Pavilion dv6-6071eo), saying "SMART hard disk error" followed by a message telling me that SMART disk check has detected and imminent failure. He told me to my backup files, and then press F2 and do a hard drive test. On the last row, it displays "Hard Disk 1 (301).

I tried to run the hard drive test, which does not instantly. I also ran the BIOS hard drive test. It meets the short test without problem and then stopped quite some time after the long trial began with the error "Disk Hard 1 full 305. My computer has also been slow over the last week.

From what I've read so far, it seems that I need to replace my hard drive. Is this correct? If so, it would be a suitable replacement (functional): http://www.dustinhome.se/product/5010151237/western-digital-black-2-5-320gb-7200rpm-sata-300-16mb/#i.... Also, would it not interesting (and possible) upgrade to an SSD for reduction of noise and heat, which is a problem with this laptop (and several other portable simular at HP) compared to other laptops.

In addition, it might be good to mention that my warranty has expired.

Have you checked to see if there is a free space left on the hard drive? A complete hard drive will make the system work very slowly and it may also keep the system working properly if it is fairly comprehensive. The fact that you take the short test means that there is nothing major to mechanically wrong with the drive. Just right-click on the icon for the main C:\ drive likely "computer: and select 'Properties'.» If the disc is not actually full, then I suggest to replace. If you can afford a SSD, Yes, there is no doubt that is the way to go. There is nothing wrong on one ssd, other than an occasional fight to install it. I have been using SSD for awhile and I had installation problems we often see reported here, but do not be discouraged, we are here to help.

  • Error - 10008 # replace hard disk 1

I'm sure that my hard drive has become bad, other messages that I read.

I don't have any data out of this device.  In fact, I was about to start deleting old data so I could give this device to a family in need.  Went to start the computer to start this process.  However, when I went to do this, he went to BSOD.  Messed with it a bit, then I got BSOD.  I have fillany calculate to run the test and got the 10008 # replace 1 hard disk error.

As always, I want to give to this family that laptop, my question is: where I could buy a cheap replacement hard drive.  Is it difficult to do? And I don't think I have a back up / but on the operating system installation disk.  I have to do to get us to open and it would be affordable.

I'm totally willing to put in the work to get to the top and go, but was woundering if anyone would be willing to give me some instructions on how to do it.

Thank you 1 million for all advice and assistance.

    Hello

Regarding the reinstallation of the operating system on the new drive HARD, here are two options.

    1. you can order a set of replacement recovery disks using the link below - it will reinstall the operating system, all the drivers, and almost all of the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office).  They will also recreate all of the original scores, including the recovery Partition.

    Order HP recovery disks.

2 another option that you might consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the Disk Image correct ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn offerings) to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write that an ISO on a disc is here.  The source of the Windows Image is Digital River.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1.

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

You may need, additional drivers and software are here.

  • G8 Pavilion laptop hardware error - new hard disk?

Hello, I spoke with a representative from HP and I wanted a second opinion. Here are the facts:

Possible virus causing the model to be very slow and have errors at the start up.

Problems of gel even in "safe mode".

Decided to do a "System Restore" using F8. Follow-up of the steps, took 20 + minutes, FINISHED.

A screen says that I can, "1. update of security for HP and microsoft;   2 re - install any other software;    3. install all the backed up files. I selected 'NEXT' at the bottom of the screen, then, "OPERATING SYSTEM not FOUND '. Now I can't other than 'F' screens anyhere

I call HP. A rep tells me to use F2, test drive. On a quick scan, 1 hard disk failure (SMART disc is OK). The full scan, 1 hard disk failure (SMART disc is OK).  The representative asked me a long code determine the failures, and there is NOT.  I go out of the main system diagnostics page and there are two failure codes: 303 (quick scan) and 305 (full scan). The rep wants codes any longer, but there is not.

My question: do I need a new hard drive, or I can just recovery disks?

Thanks for any help you can provide!   -Sarah

    Hello

Longer code (up to 24 characters) means that the HARD disk is dead. 305 error would indicate that your hard drive is defective and must be replaced. Please backup your files/data as soon as possible. Is your machine still under warranty? In the affirmative, please call HP for a replacement.

Update: Sorry, I'm a little slow - 3rd opinion then.

    Kind regards.

  • HP dv6500 - replace hard disk?

I have HP dv6500 for over 2 years now and I am outside the warranty period.

    -VISTA Home basic

Recently, ny computer started freezing after every 15-20 minutes and it was not usable, I had to reboot always out...

I ran the BIOS disk HARD diagnose - it says "Replace hard drive".

I called HP support - but they were not willing to help with hardware issues, without any mandate that costs ~ $ 350 +.

That's why I thought to replace the HARD drive with a new one.

    Old SATA HDD: WD160GB

New SATA HARD drive: Seagate 250 GB

After replacing the HARD drive, I tried to restore the system using original HP recovery disks. It runs through the process of recovery - restart the computer several times - finally throws an error:

"Unable to start Windows. Recent hardware or software change might be the cause. »

"file:/Windows/system32/Boot/winload.exe status: 0xc000000f" info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or currept

I would appreciate any help/advice/pointers for this problem...

    Thank you

    Guy - FYI

    The problem is resolved.

It was a prob with the std HP recovery disk such that it comes with the default display driver. But my laptop had NVIDIA GeForce 8400 M GS and the drivers where missing in the original disc. I ordered the HP disk drivers. After that the installation was smooth though it took almost seven hours for a recovery complete.

  • Pavilion p7 - 1417c: how many hard disks can accept to my machine?

I recently installed a 5 TB disk (E:\) and it works fine.  The drive that I replaced was a 2 TB WD drive. My old 2 TB drive can be installed in the Bay under the DVD drive? My machine is p7 - 1417c, s/n 3CR2460P90. My machine can get 2 hard drives in addition to the 1 with which it came?

    Greetings,

It seems you have two (maybe three-hard to see) berries of HARD disk in the HARD drive cage.

You can also buy an adapter for the optical drive Bay HARD drive open. Or just join the 3.5-inch HARD drive bay with screws. If this Bay is 2.5 inches, you can use an SSD.

You have five SATA ports on the motherboard (MB).

Some of the MB SATA ports are going to be slower speeds of legacy. You might have some ports SATA 1. You may need to use jumpers when installing the disk HARD SATA 3. You may have a compatibility issue back. It's been a while since I had to deal with this type of problem. I'm a little fuzzy on potential problems when using 1 SATA disk HARD SATA 3.

SATA MB ports five minus the optical drive to the MB connection gives four connections available for HARD disks.

You also need to supply connections (or will need to purchase the power adapters) from food to run five disks.

I don't see what you have.

    See you soon!

  • Satellite M40X-189 - replace HARD disk - what size should I go to?

Hi, I have a SATELLITE M40X-189, I would like to replace the hard drive and would like if possible some recommendations!
I know I need an ide/pata and I currently have a hard disk of 40 GB hitachi 5400 rpm installed. The memory is just what came installed originally, (512 MB, no upgrade).

So what size I can up to?
I have a lot of music/photos and video to change so must also size decent 80 GB would be enough?
I really don't use it for anything other than that, and also the navigation on the internet. Although I often have a few programs running at the same time which causes problems... freeze, (in particular I tunes) and generally slow running.

I'm confident on the physical replacement, and I know how to clone my old drive hard etc, but just need some info about the size and speed and if possible
a recommendation of the manufacturer. Just worried about incompatibility really issues.

Also, if you think I should install more memory, which size and make and model may recommend.

    Thank you in advance!

    Denise.

    Hi mate

First he must know that this question have been posted a lot of time in the forum.
If you want to use the search option, then you will find this thread for example:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=68287

Is the M40X series supports the IDE controller and I think that you need a 2.5 IDE HDD.
The old ide controllers are limited to 128 GB with 28-bit LBA
However, you can take an 80 GB or 120 GB HARD drive and it should work fine

    Welcome them

  • HP Pavilion x 360 11-n010dx (HARD DISK AND RAM)

Hi, I have the HP Pavilion x 360 11- n010dx and make it sound strange when in set at 90 degrees. as a click clikc click all the time, since the day I understand 5 months ago. to be honest never was a fast computer, as my old vaio run faster than that. I thougth it was for windows 8 and 4 GB of ram. but someone told me that might be you HDD. so, first of all is any chance to fix this disc using HDD regenerator or something similar (I do not), or do a complete restore of the system? (I don't have the box and Bill from best buy so I can't look for support or use the warranty and im from argetntina and I get this pc in the United States). In the case where I need is also a chance to change the disk to an SSHD? or a SSD? in this case, what should I buy? Last, but not least, is a chance to upgrade memory? I know that it is sold to the motherboard. (any remote chance?) If I have to UN sold is not a problem, because I can't use the warranty so... (no invoice, no box).  I have well appreciate a lot your help

Hi again once I run the complete test of the system hardware, it does not any error on the hard disk. but the clicking sound again. and the still slow computer.

Whence the noise? It's cooling fans, near vents or on the side of the hard drive? Look at the manual to their approximate positions & identify the area where the sound comes from.

Are there any overheating, sudden stops, unusually warm air through vents or error messages?

If there is no hard drive failure, it is unlikely that the cause is due to bad sectors of hard disk or all just bad HARD drive. To confirm the download, run this program free HD Tune - it'll take a few hours to complete.

You partition the hard disk after you bought the laptop?

I want to change the HD to an SSHD, because SSDS are much better, but they are very expensive and shorter life. for example, sshd maximun size would be bee 500 GB? I would like to put something bigger, is - it possible?

SSHD - the listed compatible max is in this config: 2.5 "SATA 7mm (HDD to 500 GB + 8 GB SSD) hybrid (reference HP: 732000-005), there is no other compatible guaranteed.

I suggest that go you for SSD - there is no problem, I've heard up to now with them. Certainly, they would work at least 10 years (and more than that) with the same performance & in my case (I have 500 GB Samsung SSD Evo 840) time to access and overall performance improves day after day.  If you want more storage, better, you buy an external HARD drive. If you want spectacular performance SSD is my choice, even though I'm not saying that SSHD is bad - but there still turns physical disk which is the main part.

On the RAM I've already updated the bios, so I think that I'm ready to go for it.

I check my virus staus and my pc is free, also check windows services and leave only the description, I don't know why is it so long to star upward and run the programs that I know is a modest, but Im pc use only statistical programs, office and that's all...

To detect & fixing malware, download & install this free tool: MalwareBytes Antimalware

Update latest version & TICK "Scan rootkits" its settings before starting the scan.

After the scan, quarantine the detected objects. Restart the system. Yet once, open the Malware Bytes program, go to the history tab in there: remove all quarantined items from there

    Restart the system.

Open the prompt as administrator, do a SFC SCAN, check if integrity violations are:
SFC SCAN COMMAND - Option 2

Then, disable startup programs unnecessary in the Manager of tasks - Option 1

    Restart the system.

    I think that by using a 100 GB shouldn't t be a problem

  • Pavilion P6-2125 - adding additional hard disks

    Nice day.

Can I add additional hard disks SATA internal? Is the power supply sufficient to allow this? In addition, this will void the warranty?

    Thank you, Joe

    Hi, Joe:

When I look at the upgrade and maintenance of your PC guide, I don't get a hard drive Bay.

So, I would say that your PC is not configured to handle more than one hard drive.

  • Satellite 2415 S205 recovery disks don't work

I have 3 recovery disks provided with my Toshiba (which was initially purchased in the United States for me by my brother even if I am based in the United Kingdom). The laptop was originally running Windows XP Home Edition and Microsoft Works and covers the Toshiba labels for this purpose. When I try to restore the system using the recovery disks, the screen indicates it is install Windows 95! Also, although it seems to be to reformat the hard disk, it becomes only 86% then stops! (even if left on all night)

    So I have two questions:

    (1) can I get good replacement of the boot to XP disks?
    (2) is it a probable reason for the 'lock-up' 86%?

    Hey there

To get the correct discs, I think you can try here:

  • NB305-01E recovery disks don't work

I tried to restore my NB305 Netbook (windows 7) to its original factory (using the beginning and hold '0') and with the recovery disc I made when I bought my netbook.

No recovery option works. Using the beginning + '0' does not put me in the hard drive recovery mode (everything that happens is that it freezes the boot process until I release the "0" key), or try using the recovery (F12 + recovery disk process) disk bothers me in the process of recovery, but after all of 1/2 hour of good process , the computer and external disk drive crashes with a message "copy files to the disc.

I left the computer all night and there was no progress. It seems that the recovery disc I made is corrupt and I might have to buy a new Toshiba recovery disks. Any suggestions or information on how I can go about buying recovery disc Toshiba for my net book?

    Thank you! JL

    Hello

To be honest I don t understand this with the computer and external drive. You have created recovery image on external HARD disk?

Can you please tell me where you bought your netbook? This European model? I ask this because on the European models, you enter startup options using F8 at startup and fix my computer to start the installation of HARD drive recovery.

In any case, if nothing is done I'm afraid, you must order the original Toshiba Recovery disk for your model laptop from Mr. I don t know where do you live and you can not send good link where you can order but you can contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

  • How to disable the file hiding (changing options for hard disk does not work)

    Hi all

I hope someone can help me with the following problem:

-J' need to open a file of 16 GB of content in third party software (Stata) who reads completely in memory.

-Due to Windows caching file, necessary to get the procedure done about 32 GB cache files and Stata access physical memory.

-As I have only 24 GB of physical RAM file is read later part of virtual memory, which leads to serious performance problems.

I unchecked the box 'Enable write on the device cache' to my hard drive. That did not help. Is there a way to disable the Cache during PLAYBACK of files?

Thank you very much in advance for any help!

    Tobi

The write cache and virtual memory are different. Virtual memory is an extension of the physical memory residing on the HARD disk where Windows is installed. Normally, the virtual memory is about twice the size of the current physical memory. Write cache is an exclusive setting for external hard drives only and has no effect in internal hard drives.

In your case, please note that full 24GO of RAM will not be allocated to the program. At least 1 GB will be reserved for windows, so the rest of the programs are moved to virtual memory, which means that the HARD drive. It is not recommended to disable virtual memory because it can cause stability problems. In addition, the files are not copied directly in memory, even if they are big. Instead, the parts of the file are available and this area, including the incremental values and material, are stored in the memory. So if all of a sudden, you access an area of the file which is very far away from the previous location, it takes time as the new area, as well as differentials and material value of a few bytes is also copied to the memory. The box of files previously displayed is erased from the memory.

For performance improvements, you can go for the SSD, RAM with higher clock speed (must be compatible with the motherboard) as processor as well as the upgrade. However, please note that the process of accessing a file even as mentioned previously, but the speed will increase because of the higher bandwidth and the clock frequency.

I have a Power Mac G4. Hard drive failed and tech cloned everything to another hard disk, he installed. Tech seemed bewildered by my older Mac. Now none of my CS4 programs work. The problem is most likely the cloning.  Adobe software must be installed using installation files.  Uninstall, use the cleaning tool and reinstall.
