Pavilion DV6700 hard disk upgrade problem

My laptop came with a 120 GB hard drive and I ordered a new unit of 500 GB from NewEgg but when I went to install the connectors are different. Both are SATA but the original has pins, and as far as I can tell from pictures of other computer laptop HD and the other, they are all different. Is their some kind of adapter or something? What I'm missing here?

Yes, there may be a removable adapter on the original drive, he slides with a little persuasion with a small flat screwdriver.

If the old hard drive looks like this it is Pata not Sata

  • Pavilion dv6: hard disk gets stuck in a "loop", the private resources applications

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 (dv6-6145dx) with 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 x 64 installed, 500 Gb HD (Hitachi , 40% brand free).  It worked very well for a time very, very long time.  Recently installed Office 365 month last for professional use, which I was concerned might be a resource hog, but usually works very well.  I also AVAST! Antivirus Pro is installed.

Last week, I started noticing a strange problem that I had not seen before.  Some applications have become desensitized.  I noticed the hard drive light was constantly.  So I tried to close some applications (including Outlook), thinking that I was running resources.  But the deadlock problem continues.

Listening to the hard drive, I could hear this "stuck in a loop.  Something like "click-[bunch of quick clicks] - click-click-[break].  Repeats every 2 seconds.  Continues to go on and on.  If I leave the computer alone for about 15 ~ 20 minutes, I discover it has recovered.  But once I run the intensive program of any disk, this repeats itself.  It doesn't matter if it's a 3rd team application or system (such as the launch of Event Viewer).

To try to limit this, I started in safe mode with network.  I thought that if it was driver related, it wouldn't happen.  I launch the event viewer and still, the loop of the hard drive goes.  All gloomy.

My antivirus is up to date. I ran a full scan of the system (F2) and no errors.  I ran the monitor resources and Process Explorer in the hope of identifying what that either method was this... couldn't see just guilty.  I also created a new user and logged in with this account... has always been able to experience this problem.  It is therefore not associated user account.

I'm at my wit's end.  I am grateful that I have another computer I can use, but this should not be the case.

Anyone who is familiar with this kind of hard disk behavior consumes resources?

"If you keep an open mind, life will give you more opportunities."

I ran another system test and eventually got more details:

    "Disk hard Test" failed

    "Fast hard disk 1" (303)

    "Complete hard drive 1" (305)

OK, so from what I've found, it's a serious error means that the hard drive has failed.

He is a computer 4 years.  I never had a hard disk failure in a laptop before, and I had many laptops up to nearly 8 years, without any hard drive problem.  The drive inside is manufactured by Hitachi... they don't exactly have the best reputation.  Anyway, all the research that I have met never goes into detail as to what might have caused the failure and if some readers have a reliability problem.  The answer is always "you need to replace your hard drive."

Anyway, I will not try to diagnose it further.  I send my laptop in for repair (still under warranty - exhausted soon, phew!).

  • Dv6 hard disk 3F0 problem

I have a HP DV6-6001TX with the 6770 m GC. I tried to boot my laptop for a while now, but every time he says hard disk not detected and undetected boot device. I tried to secure the connection from the HARD disk several times without success. What should I do now?

    Hello

It is perhaps that your hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.

As a new trial and to help eliminate a problem with the Sata controller, try the following.

Follow the procedure below to create a bootable Ubuntu CD and follow the steps in part 3 of 'Try' to see if the operating system is running.  The option 'Try' runs the operating system from the CD without having to install on your HARD drive.  If it works Ok (it will be slow running on a CD), this would tend to confirm that the problem is only with the HARD drive.

If your laptop is still under warranty, you can contact HP and arrange for the replaced HARD disk - you can check your warranty status.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, let me know.

  • HARD disk installation problem

I have a PC that I use as a server, it has a 500 MB HARD disk for windows system, programs and data HDD 3TO.

After a power cut/spike it was start on a blue screen of death.

I checked the two hard disc in a disc case and found a fine of data and the system cannot be read and it showed as not formatted. I reformatted the drive and everything was going well.

When I try to reinstall windows using the USB u (not the DVD drive on PC) it fails to recognize the drive system as an option to install windows on. It appears in the line of the BIOS and cmd ok (via repair system), but it won't let me install windows on it to him.

I checked the cables and I can see all seems fine.

I switch the cables connecting the system and data drives but windows still only sees the data reader, regardless of the connections.

    SATA is located in DCIS.

I tried to install, windows 7, 8 and even XP! All are unable to see the player.

Someone at - it suggestions why this could be?

    Hello

You can get the first 3 TB drive... even if that does not cause a problem, now it can have negative consequences in the future.

Try to download an ISO of the wizard Partition 8.1.1 and reformat again...

It runs from a bootable CD, so you can work around any problems of Windows...

BTW... If you use UEFI Bios, it must be formatted as a type GPT disk...

If you do not use UEFI type MBR format would be better...

Hi to create a new volume shrunk i C drive using the computer management tool. In fact, it has shrunk. And I got a message like an INTERNAL ERROR happened. Now I can't see the United Nations space allocated and narrowed part of my disk is missing.

    Hi mohdrafi,.

I suggest you try the following steps:

Step 1: Restart the computer once and check whether the unallocated volume exists.

Step 2: Use the disk part command:

    (a) click Start and in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

    (b) at the command prompt, type diskpart , and then on enter.

    (c) type list diskand press ENTER. A list of available hard disks.

    (d) type salt disc numberand press ENTER. Number is the number of the hard disk where you want to create a volume; the hard drive is now selected.

    (e) type det disk, and then press ENTER. A list of partitions on the hard disk. Use this information to check if the unallocated volume exists.

    f) salt volume numberType, and then press ENTER. Number is the number of the volume where you want to create a partition - unallocated volume

    Same thing...

Together-hard drive requires a hard disk object, not a string containing its name. You need to filter the drive to extend using a where clause clause that you run now all the cmdlet Set-hard drive hard drives.

    Try something like this:

    Get-hard drive - VM $VMName | Où {$_. Name - eq $disk} | Together-hard drive -CapacityKB $NewSize -confirm: $false

  • Pavilion a6120n: startup of the a6120n hard disk upgrade / replacement of more than 2 TB (4 TB) not recognized

    Hi all

My primary HARD drive recently failed.  So, I went out and picked up a new internal drive from HGST 4TB to replace the dead drive.

I thought I'd use the opportunity to make a new new clean install of Windows 10.  So I created, with the support of Microsoft tool, an installation of Windows 10 DVD.

Unfortunately, when I start the PC with the new Windows 10 installation disk (64-bit), it only allows me to create a new partition to a maximum size of 1768 Go.

Now I remember reading on a 4 gb limitation RAM BIOS/motherboard has, but I couldn't find any limitation on the size of the hard drive.

Although I found a few articles indicating that UEFI & GPT would be required to make it work for any HARD drive more than 2 TB, I have absolutely no idea how to proceed, or if this motherboard has a limitation.

Any help you could provide would be much appreciated, because I have been racking my brain for the last month trying to solve this problem.

What you do not have to disclose, is that the original BIOS was Vista.  Than stated, you would not have a level of BIOS available for download that would have compatibility (UEFI BIOS) level 8 and options you need.

    Hi @Chris_8318,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment of CTO Notebook and concerns with the installation of a hard drive again. If you keep the new larger than your original SSD and it supports Sata 5400 RPM 9.5 mm, 2.5-inch hard drives, you'll have no problems.

Here is a link to your manual page 23 for specifications.

Please let me know how it goes.

  • HP Pavilion DV6345US hard drive upgrade, 160 GB 5400 RPM SATA 1.5 Gb/s

    Hello

I need help on upgrading my hard drive on an HP Pavilion DV6345US.

    The hard drive is a 160 GB 5400 RPM SATA - 1, 5 Gbps.

I would like to replace it with a drive of 500 GB - 7200 rpm or 500 GB - 5400 RPM.

But I have read that HP Pavilion DV6499 or less may have difficulty using a 7200 RPM drive.

That means that a 500 GB drive to 5400 RPM can be used,

or is the limit of 320 GB 5400 RPM or less?

  • T3065.uk Pavilion: Pavilion t3065 hard drive upgrade

I've been trawling the internet to find a definitive answer to the question "can I put my main hard drive of t3065 Pavilion of the Maxtor 200 GB sata I type in a Western Digital 1 TB Sata III type (WD10EZEX for example) '? '" Some sites suggest that SATA III is backward compatible with SATA II and SATA I the 'bus' will be held at the lower speed provided by the controller. Others say that the SATA III is backward compatible with SATA II and SATA II is backward compatible with SATA I but SATA III is not compatible with SATA I.

Has anyone installing a SATA III tried on a SATA I controller disc?

Is the card mother puffer2 actually SATA II in the first place?

SATA II drives are rare, and I would like an answer to that question pretty quickly.

    Thank you very much

    Peter

    Hello.

Yes, you can use the player, even if your motherboard supports SATA I because SATA III drives are backwards compatible with SATA I ports. However, keep in mind that the maximum speed of the disk will be slower because of lower speed limits of the port.

By example, if you connect a drive SATA III in SATA I port the sequential read/write speeds could reach a maximum speed of SATA I (which is 1.5 Gb/s).

    I hope this helps.

  • Defective hp pavilion g6/hard disk drive

Really, I don't want to buy a new hard drive, hard drive of my hp pavilion g6 a year, it has already failed is now funny windows 8. Whenever I start my laptop it gives me an urgent message indicating: "Hard drive faliure and error, back up computer immediately and replace the hard drive." It seems that everything laptop I've ever bought only lasts a year, I don't do any change which file or something like that. My children have a few games sims 3 on the laptop and I took my laptop in the pc world to see if they have been slowing down or gong to ruin the laptop, but the employee assured me that nothing would happen to her. And now it's come along, im not really at a point where I can splash a lot of money on a new laptop computer. It is better to go just to get a mac from apple because they guarantee a longer life of the computer and cost less in the long run? Please help, you can find me a cheap solution for this problem?

Mine lasted 8 months before getting the imanent of hard drive failure. And the laptop is so hot, he could give you the 2nd degree burns. I am on a fixed income and could not really afford the computer first and then make fail after only minimal use. I tried to contact h.p. never got an answer or anything, and by the look of it online, it happened to many people. I was vary loyal to a brand once I use and a similar product, but I don't ever see myself buying a HP product again. And im sure it through at least 15 laptops more in my life!

Looks like that should have been a recall on them, the exhaust system is designed under.

I bought a new laptop with a disk drive. So I decided to partition my hard drive to use part of it as a return to the top. • HP Pavilion dv6000 Hard Drive Upgrade

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 (Entertainment PC), it says on the box of dv6187ea (Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2 Ghz).

It's the hard drive died for the second time, I need to replace it and I don't know if this laptop can take sata3. I am now looking to a few Mobile WD2500BEKX black WD 250 GB, SATA3 7200 RPM, 16 MB of Cache and the other has the same features except that it is SATA2.

So first of all I would like to know if I can indeed use a sata3 or I am limited to sata2, and then what would you recommend as for 7200 rpm from 5400.

Prices are all Similarly, in reality the 7200 RPM are cheaper, my need is representation only, the battery was almost dead since I bought it (all laptops suffer from it) so I always TI plugged running the kde desktop + many services, I want to say he works a lot.

Thanks in advance, if I missed some information just make me know.

    Hello

As mentioned above, you can use SATA III because it is backward compatible, just pay a little more. In short: you can use the two 3 SATA or SATA 2.

    Kind regards.
