Mid 2011 Mac Mini running slow/a lot of balloons of beach/HDD to research and writing
I have a Mid 2011 Mac Mini, which runs slower than a snail's pace. I frequently get beach balls as I type this message. Startup time is very long, and the hard drive is often written / search/access for several minutes at random throughout the day.
This seemed to start after I have updated to El Capitan 10.11.6. I decided a few weeks to reinstall OS X without doing a thorough cleaning. It did not help the situation, so I then proceeded to install the latest beta of Mac OS 10.12 to see if that helped. Nope. I don't think I have a bad hard drive, either.
I have just run an EtreCheck and copied below. Any ideas? I don't want to run my computer at the Apple store. Thank you!

Uninstall Norton AV. There are no viruses that can attack Mac.OS X. For example, anti-virus programs are selling a cure for a disease that does not exist. And they are known for the Mac was systems. running slow mac - cleanmymac and/or new battery?
My macbook (13-inch late 2009 model) works well, but is running slow. I am considering buying Cleanmymac 3 - but it made a difference? I used the demo version that has identified about 110 GB, which could be authorised only if I got the full Cleanmymac3. I have to add... the battery did 470 cycles! Would it better to replace the battery or get Cleanmymac performance? I'm not very irritable so don't really understand the impact of one. Ideally I get a new mac but will try and keep this one spends more time if possible! Thank you

Several years ago I tested both a hybrid version Seagate 1 and later version 2 with my 13 "2009 MBP and the computer started more quickly with one of these drives with 7200 RPM drive. But that and save files were the only time where I saw an improvement of high speed. So no, not slower, but not really all that much faster. I ended up installing an SSD in the computer. Now that was an improvement.

This means that you have tested the laptop under Win XP?How did you install the Win XP? Have you installed using AHCI mode (in BIOS) or you switch to compatible mode?
By using the compatibility mode that HARD drive could run slower and this could affect the performance of the operating system.
Solution: You must install the Win XP in AHCI mode. I think the laptop supports the AMD chipset and the required drivers are therefore part of the ATI graphics chip.
Download the graphics driver, choose the drivers SATA and include it in the Win XP disc using nLite application. nLite is free and all details can be found in the internet. -
