PC shutdown fails

With Windows XP Professional SP 3: I have recently restored a HDD from a backup.  The drive included the Windows files.  Now when I turned off the PC (by one of several methods), the PC will move slowly to the "Windows is shutting down" screen and then quit.  I have enabled him to remain in this State for more than 30 minutes, but the PC will not turn off.  My only way to stop now, turn off the power to the computer.  How can I fix it?

I understand that your computer is unable to completely stop.

What happens during an attempt to stop safe mode?

To access safe mode:

1. start the computer

2. repeatedly press F8 on the keyboard until the "Menu of Windows Advanced Options" appears

3. use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select "Safe Mode" and press the Enter key.

Once in safe mode, try to stop.

If shutdown is successful, this indicates that a startup program prevents the closure.

If the judgment is not successful, this indicates that a BIOS update is necessary. Determine your computer brand / model, use this information to determine the brand of the BIOS. Use this information to get updates.

Hope this helps

    Hello

Make sure that you do not install hardware 3rd party via windows update drivers

they are normally not up to date and can cause computer problems

change the way you receive updates and check what you install ad if you don't not right-clicking on UAC prompt you to hide it:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial140.html

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Windows will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

and if you're still stuck in a loop non-Boot read these methods on how to try to fix it:

1st thing to try is a restoration of the system in safe mode

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

  • Vista SP2 x 64 update fails on shutdown

I tried several times to install the vista sp2 (64-bit).  Everything seems ok until it tries to restart.  The display shows the closing down and it stops there.  I gave 6 hours before forcing a cold start.  When return chkdsk runs and fails.  Had to restore the previous state of a backup HD picture again.  HD goes diags, i.e. no discernible hardware problem.  I tried to allow first on the Windows Update page.  Second time around, I have download the package and ran it in safe mode with network (which is the only way that would be installing SP1 I remember well).  Same failure mode, no message err, just hang out on the closing screen.

  • UDP read too Long timeout, Async Custom Dev fail Shutdown

    Hello

I've got a simple custom UDP for VeriStand receiver device that uses a timed loop. She has an infinite timeout so that I can listen on port constantly. I cancel the deployment every time I cause an error: 307730 Error Message: NI Veristand: one or more asynchronous custom devices did not close properly and has been abandoned by the Veristand engine.

Does anyone know how to stop the function Read UDP when it expects a package? What's doing VeriStand when she replaces this behavior, for example he closes the network connection, as the unit cancels? The "Stop.vi" of the device model custom runs?

Similar question for Visa Read with a long time (> 10 s). VeriStand closes the Visa Session? VeriStand just kill the timed loop and leave the rest of the finishing of custom device?

Please note that if I shorten the timeout to 1 s or less the custom device can cancel the deployment without any problem.

    Thank you

    Brent

    Brent,

You should have a way to interrupt your UDP activities to check the system status. Open UDP will create the buffer to the data to be received on this port. As long as reading occurs to clear the buffer before too much data overruns the buffer memory capacity, then you should be fine. Leaving a deadline of waiting-1 loop which blocks it is why VeriStand is having to stop the loop.

You should have a case of time-out period for your operations of UDP/TCP for the periods of low activity in order to check a channel to shut down the device custom.

  • Failed to refresh the database after a forced shutdown of the business rule

    Hello Experts!

I am currently test and adjustment of performance of business rules in Hyperion Planning 9.3.1. I started a business rule in the Regional service Console that ran a lot too long so I decided to stop it manually. But after this manual stop when I try to refersh Essbase of Hyperion Planning (Administration > manage the database > database update) I get the following error:

+ com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException: impossible to restructure. There are other active users on the database [%s] (1013101).

I remember having forced company rule stops earlier in other Hyperion Planning 9.3.1 deployments and they did not generate such errors. So could you help me on how to stop Hyperion Planning of this error after manual business rule stops because it's very likely I'll have do them in the future? Thank you very much!

  • NB200z shutdown problems

I am running XP service pack 3 with the NB200-z. This anomaly is intermittent, so it happens _most_ of the time, but not always (it does not seem to the use of a particular program in an obvious way).

During the shutdown to the bottom/hibernation or switch mode Eve anyway (closing the lid, pressing the power button / stop or start menu) it will close Explorer and all running programs and make it appear a window saying "prepare to stop" (or never, what state he's going in) and it just stays there. The mouse moves, so it did not freeze completely. By pressing ctrl, alt, del fails to bring up the Task Manager, so I don't see what is going on. At this point, my only option seems to be down the power button until the machine turns off.

Sometimes it will go beyond this point and the window disappears but it crashes and then completely on a blue background Uni where the same mouse cursor will not move. At this stage even once, I have to hold the power button until it turns off.

There are times where it will happen normally tap down and all the other computer functions seem to work very well?

I have looked around online to see if anyone else has this problem too, but have found no solution. Microsoft offers online that I disable the drivers one by one and keep close to see if it is a driver but I know it is damaging my HARD drive every time I turn off manually so I do not know what to do. I stopped him fine mode safe but it sometimes will vanish so fine...

I thought it's maybe someone knows of a recorder of closure that I can use to debug with? If I had a newspaper what file it broke so I could replace or remove the file?

Thanks a lot for your help :)

    • A week ago, I got speech recognition works only with a local edition. Insert this ctfmon '=' CTFMON registry entry. EXE, to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, fixed the problem. However, I can't find to this registry entry.
    • Four days ago, I had slow internet speed. I did a 'Complete' Microsoft Security Essentials scan and it found many exploits (Explot: Java/CVE-2009-3867.) BX, TrojanDownloader / OpenConnection.AK, TrojranDownloader:Java / Rexec.c and a dozen others). I removed all the. The internet speed is back to normal.
    • This morning, I have updated the firmware on my SSD to activate the TRIM. I restored an image of the drive I did with Windows Backup and Restore just before updating the drive.

    Problem:

    • I tried Windows Update after update of the SSD. It downloads all updates, installs, and prompts you to restart the computer to complete the installation. During the shutdown, some files are 'configured '. Upon restart, during the boot of Windows GUI (circles of flight), there is a break-up of the code, something about the registry. On logon, it gets "35%" and says so "returning default configuration updates,' or something like that. I get a notification indicating that the updates failed.
    • On Windows Update, only Silverlight, Windows malicious software removal, MSE definition updated and updated Office Publisher are successful.

    What I tried:

    • Disk Cleanup attempt (and unfortunately removed all restore points). Did not work.
    • Attempt to sfc/scannow. He found a few files, that it could not correct; I have the CBS.log newspaper if you need. However, updates still do not work.
    • Tried to reset the resource manager to file with "fsutil resource setautotest true c:\ ». She is successful. However, after the restart, the updates still do not work.
    • Tried a Full scan with MSE. No anomaly.
    • Tried to reset components to update Windows (using the Vista Fix - It via KB971058). Updates still do not work.
    • Attempt of Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (updated dec 2010) Full Scan, no malicious software was detected. Updates still do not work.
    • Attempt of Anti-Malware analysis complete Malwarebyte, no malicious software found. Updates still do not work.

I don't think that this is malware, but a Windows problem... My internet is wobbly for these last two days, a lot of packet loss (pages only "" half load, some missing frames, etc.). Not sure if this is related, but it downloads the updates very well. It is not always the marker "35%".

I'm out of ideas. What's next?

    Thank you

    ~ Ibrahim ~.

    1. about 1 year, I installed MSE.

2 McAfee has been preloaded; the subscription was updated (in a 90-day trial), and I uninstalled McAfee completely (regular uninstall and Removal Tool provided by McAfee).

    3. Yes, for about 30 minutes before I uninstalled and installed MSE.

    4. Yes.

However, with a little help seven forums, we have figured out it is the registry. I did a reinstall and then the updates installed correctly.

I don't know what the problem with my computer, the newspaper of keep generating these FATAL errors each and every time. I'm sorry that I can't get anything else in the newspaper other than that because I didn't know that old newspapers have been removed by the cleaner software.

So far, here are the problems I've met so far in my computer with this FATAL, but I don't know if it actually caused that:

    • My browser was arrested by force when I clicked on a link. It happens rarely and on some microsoft sites.
    • It is difficult to describe it. Once in a while, my computer will boot in a strange pattern, unless I'm defragging my computer. Caps/number on the keypad lock remains light throughout the loading screen until half out of the light, the letters of words like "press ESC to go to config" came out slowly and one by one. Usually the lock of the Caps/number will blink for some time and remain extinguished after the initialization of the operating system.

These are the things that I have tried or done to try to solve the problem but until now none of them work:

    • I have manually update Windows and installed the SP3 for my XP, thinking he's going to replace corrupted files.
    • I have stop/restart automatic update and the PIECES in the service.msc window services. Whatever it is, there's always this error FATAL so I decided to disable both services at the moment.
    • I tried to use a MS-DOS batch file called WUFix.bat that someone provided to fix my problem, WindowsUpdate.log still gives the same once I used it and restart my computer later.
    • I thought that the c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll file was corrupted so I decided to replace it with a new one, but still nothing changes.

I think it's all the details I gave to my problem, I tried not to do anything else major other I listed out above. I still think that's the problem with the file since the FATAL c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll came right after this and it has to do with Windows updates and everything. This error has been there for a few weeks and even if there is no critical errors have occurred to date, it is still bugging me.

If there is no solution that I can do to solve this problem, I would be happy if you can explain step by step. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

EDIT: I do not understand why this is posted in the Windows 7 forum when I chose Windows XP. Anyway, hope someone can help me with this.
