PC upgrade & re-activation of Windows XP

I am looking to update my pc motherboard card, cpu & graphics. I am running a version of Windows XP OEM. I assume that I will not be able to reactivate it but y at - it means to obtain a new product key and how much are they?

Just like a 'note', be aware that Windows XP is no longer "supported" by Microsoft.

I see three ways you can get the legal use of XP:

1 license transfer of a current licensee. The current licensee shall remove or his machine have removed Windows XP. The license can then be transferred to you. If there is a updated version, you need to have a license to a version of Windows earlier qualified or have this license transferred to you, too.

2 a copy of the current version (Windows 7) and use the downgrade rights. Determination of the details may be a bit difficult. Well, all right, it's completely crazy nearby.

See, for example,

http://www.OSNews.com/story/21698/Microsoft_Details_Windows_7_Downgrade_Rights/

3 license system manufacturer. Newegg is a possible source.

It is easier, even if it is likely to be more expensive to get a copy of Windows 7 and use that if the new box will support it.

  • Windows 8 upgrade - product activation problem

    Hello

I recently bought Windows 8 and went through the upgrade wizard activation process. My problem is I wanted to go on Windows XP 32 bit for Windows 8 64 but I realized too late (i.e. after I completed the installation of Windows 8) that I can't do and I found myself with 8 32-bit Windows installed on my computer.

Now I formatted my C drive and installed a copy of Windows 7 ultimate (64-bit version) and was thinking through the again Upgrade Wizard to migrate to 64-bit Windows 8. But I have to pay for this upgrade or my previous product code will be valid? I do not need or want the 32 but the version that I have the ability to run 64-bit on my computer.

If I have to pay for it, I think I can stay as well on Windows 7. Is there a solution to this?

Simply make the upgrade to Windows 8 64-bit using your product existing key and reactivate by phone:

You can download it from there and use your product key to upgrade:

    Hello

If Windows in the VM is already activated, it should not be necessary to "reactivate" once you upgrade to vSphere. I do updates all the time and have never had to reactivate windows.

  • Cannot set UEFI after upgrade to 8.1 Windows (P6 HP 2364ea)

    Hello

I recently bought a HP P6 (Pavilion) 2364ea tower that came with Windows 8 is installed. When buying I could enter the parameters of UEFI at startup by pressing one of the function keys. Now that I have upgraded to 8.1 Windows no splash screen or UEFI settings are available when booting - any function keys I type.

I tried to reboot to the Windows Advanced Boot-> troubleshoot-> advanced options-> settings for UEFI firmware road but the PC starts just to a white screen with no hard disk activity. I then reboot into Windows 8. The same thing happens if I try to change the windows startup options.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

    Gary

I have now managed to access the UEFI settings using an old VGA monitor to start instead of my screen thanks to a post of dave2009 on another thread. For anyone having the same problem here is his message:

I hope it will work for you or someone else. I felt the same way - try to access the settings of the PC UEFI firmware and got a screen empty every time. Tried the ridiculous press F10 every second. Nada.

Fortunately, I came across this post that put me on my solution. It's actually the BIOS could not display on my monitor (s).

The BIOS has been there all along, but I didn't know it.

My setup is a HP Envy with Intel HD graphics office built in connected with DVI to HDMI cables to 2 HP w2338h monitors that have a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 or more. Solution? Unplug everything and plug an older monitor CRT HP with a VGA to DVI. Seriously. My new HP desktop cannot display the HP BIOS on my HP flat screens. Now, I'm not going to dig into this but I suspect even just plug one of the flat screens equipped with a VGA connector could do the trick.

And wa - la. My firmware is not corrupt. I need not do anything crazy. I just needed to downgrade my video connectors in order to see the bios. And, now that I have my graphics card inherited here, I see this cute bootscreen of HP. Previously, black until the windows open. It's a whole new world!

  • The upgrade from Vista to Windows 7: How can I make sure that I keep Microsoft Office

A few months back I took advantage of this offer to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 for a discounted price. After that I downloaded the upgrade file, Upgrade Advisor told me that because I'm using Vista business and I was upgrade 7, that my computer would probably be home must pass through with a 'clean install', thus wiping my hard drive.

That's fine with me, I could just move my documents and Favorites on an external hard drive. But I'm afraid that the upgrade will be wipe my Microsoft Office programs.

I bought this computer a few years ago. I don't even know if I bought the program with office bundled with it, or if I bought it separately (and probably the discs are somewhere in storage).

How can I make this update without losing Microsoft Office? Is it possible to confirm if my word has come with my computer or if I installed it separately. If it came with it, and I lose it, certainly there must be a free way for me to recover. Right?

Any other advice for someone planning on the upgrade?

    Thank you!

You're the one who knows if you installed Office.

Office (Word, etc.) comes for free with Windows. you have to buy.

If Office is preinstalled, it was a test.

A clean installation will wipe everything.

    You cannot transfer programs.

It needs to be reinstalled from the original media.

I've recently updated my PC from Vista to 7, and it doesn't have me let use my Vista key. The key of Vista is always good and active, but don't let me use in the upgrade to 7. What should I do another get a new copy of Windows 7?

The ability to use a Windows 7 product key to activate Windows 10 is a single device, associated with the activation of Windows 10. Windows 7 never allowed the use of a Vista product key to activate Windows 7.

I need to know where you bought Windows 7 (not so).

If you choose to buy an OEM of Windows 7 version, you can only perform a 'custom' / clean install and an upgrade of Vista (where is kept of your applications and your data are not possible0.)

You could also try as an experience see if Windows 10 is compatible with your PC. You can download and install (activation will not work using your Vista key, so skip activation during the Windows Installer process 10).

If Windows 10 installed and that you are able to start and use the features of Windows 10 then you might want to consider upgrading to Windows 10 since costs will be substantially the same (and it's a real version of "Retail" Windows 10 and not an OEM version, which means that if you decide to upgrade your PC at a later date you can re - install on the new PC and 'Activate' 10). The only thing you need to consider is if all your Vista applications will run in Windows 10.

  • lost activation of windows 7 when I uninstalled windows 10

I have a used laptop bought with windows 7 on it two years ago.  I went through the process of activation then and it has been very well give me all the updates.  Two months ago, I received the windows 10 icon I have my tray and upgrade to windows free 10.  I had minor problems with windows 10 so restored to windows 7.  Everything was fine until now, all of a sudden im told my windows 7 is not enabled and it will not activate. I have no product key for windows 7 and I did not find and write down the product key for windows 10 when I have I had it installed. So now I have no way to reactivate my windows 7 and 10 windows will not reinstall. I'm sure that Microsoft, intended as a client validates windows 7 (without a product registered for her key) to have free windows 10 that now will be no reinstall and now even my windows 7 is ruined for activation. Please notify. I'd be happy to either get one activated windows 7 return or a 10 windows reinstall. Thank you, James H.

    Yes.

I just tried using the free windows than 10 download. It gives me a download but nothing happens when I try to "run" it. I guess that's because this isn't a new installation?

You need start from the disc to start the process.  You must be careful to install the same version of Windows 10 you had before; You can not go home Pro and vice versa.

  • Activation of Windows 7 after reinstallation problem

So, a few weeks ago, my laptop has been infected with something, and my bf suggested resinstalling the operating system to wipe the computer clean, so we did. We used his copy of the full edition of Windows 7 that he had bought in a bookshop on campus. Jump in now, I realize that I have to activate windows and try to do it with the product of his cd key. When it starts to turn on, it says "the following error occurred while trying to use the product key: Code: 0xC004F061 Description: the Software Licensing Service determined that this specified product usable only key for the upgrade, not for new installations." Because this does not work, I used the key on the back of my laptop. Then he said: "the product key you entered will not work with this edition of Windows 7." You must run the installation of Windows 7 or enter a product key Windows 7 Ultimate. »

If I'm screwed? I'll have to go and buy ANOTHER copy of Windows 7 Ultimate so I can have a 'legitimate' Windows copy, even if it already is legit? Help, please. Thank you.
