PC Vista cannot see or ping XP PC

I have 2 computers on my home network: Ultimate Vista (SP2) and XPPro 2002 (SP3).

Computer TheXP can see the Vista (my network places); but Vista can't see3 (orping) the XP.

Is it possible to fix this?

Sorry, I cannot help without knowing the information I requested. The LapLink connection indicates that the machines are on the same network, however. Try to uninstall the firewall as suggested previously and following the rest of the steps. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Machines Vista cannot see the rest of the home network

I don't know what's happened recently, but here's the thing.

I have a home network, 1 Vista desktop, 1 Office XP with shared USB attached, 1 drive NAS (running Linux kernel I think). All devices set to the same workgroup 'HOUSE '. Until recently, I could see all the devices in the Vista machine with the selection of 'network' of the Explorer.

Now I see that me, the wireless router, and if I turn it on, an another Vista laptop. The Vista laptop has the same situation - he sees only the vista desktop and router and anything else3.

I can connect to the XP computer manually by entering \\computer_name\external_drive_name and even with the NAS drive. I can't see the with the Vista Explorer.

I can't say exactly when it happened, but is has been in the last month. I see the console of restoration that there is an update Tuesday 4/11, but if I try to restore before this date of restoration fails.

Discovery network, file sharing, etc., are always turned on. I tried to do a complete reset of the router but nothing helped.

FYI - Norton of 365 security card option fortunately shows everything on the network, so I know that all devices are in the same workgroup.

Any advice would be greatly welcome.

I solved the problem with advice from another forum. I forced the desktop computer to become the master browser by setting 'MaintainServerList' in the registry for the 'yes' rather than 'auto '.

I can now see all the connected devices.

    Hello

Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

You can try the steps and check if you are able to see the background on the logon screen.
    a. Click Start, and then type gpedit.msc
    b. navigate to Computer Configuration and go to administrative templates and go to System.
    c. go to connection and set the "bottom always use custom logon" to activate.
    d. create a folder named C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds
    e. put the file you want, and then name it backgroundDefault.jpg
    f. check your other background for the dimensioning of the info files

  • Vista cannot see network but other machines readers works very well

    Hi all

Really problem simple and stupid that led to me round the twist that I see not what is causing the problem.

I have 2 laptops and 2 players on the same network implemented as follows:

    -1 laptop running windows 7.
    -1 laptop running windows Vista
-1 dedicated NAS connected via Ethernet, which is also a media server
-1 USB key converted to a NAS by connecting a player to the USB port on the router

Computer laptop windows 7 can access internet and network drives fine and access the Vista laptop - nothing wrong with this machine.

The computer Vista laptop can access the internet and a Windows 7 laptop but I am unable to "see" the network drives when you browse the network to map drives.

As far as I can tell, the two laptops have the same settings and are in the same workgroup between them and the network drives.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Thank you

    Hello

    Did you change your computer?

    (1) first of all, make sure that the workgroup name is the same on all computers on the network. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the default workgroup name is "WORKGROUP". On Windows XP, the name of working group by default on Windows XP-based computers is "MSHOME". On all other versions of XP Professional, it is "WORKGROUP".

Go to control panel, then network and sharing Center:
    (2) network discovery: WE
    (3) the network value: private
    (4) file Sharing is: on
    (5) public folder sharing: WE
    (6) protected password: OFF

It does not exist. Take a look at: VMware Fusion (menu bar) > help > VMware Fusion help > Machine virtual Basics > virtual hardware specifications

  • Toshiba Kira - Win 8.1 cannot see all files on the 64 GB flash drive

    Hi all

Newbie on this forum. I just bought the i5 8 GB of RAM Windows 8.1 Kira Ultrabook, a great little machine.

I have a SanDisk 64 GB flash drive that has about 20 GB on it in a dozen files. These folders and the content can be seen by my Windows 7 PC, even my mobile phone and Tablet Tower.

However, the Kira cannot see both files, even if in the properties of the drive, he sees the space correctly. Turned on all folders and no difference.
My wife has a 32 GB flash - no problem.

I reformatted the flash disk, run a virus on the disk and the Kira. The Kira can someone verify the maximum size flash can see it please? I can't find it in any documentation.

Any help or suggestions appreciated - I ran support Toshiba without a response, so maybe someone here can help you.

The appearance of the folder is not in your laptop model or your system!

I recommend you to check some common view windows Explorer settings:

    (1) to see the hidden files and folders reported as
Click the view tab, and then click Show hidden files and folders.

    (2) to display all the system files that are usually hidden from view.
Click on the view tab, and then clear the Hide protected operating system files check box.

Here you will find all the information about the folder views and behavior

  • Vista cannot start because of accidentally deleted system files

    Hello

my laptop was working very well until some files were accidentally deleted and now Vista cannot start.
There is a message saying that I need to contact the system administrator or the manufacturer of the pc.

Is there anything you could recommend?
I would appreciate if you could help me find a way to record all of the information contained in hard drives.

    see you soon

If you are not able to boot up the laptop and refuse it to Vista to start then take recovery in hand, insert it and start on this CD from Toshiba.

Then the cell phone should boot from the recovery CD and reinstall the whole OS again.
This should help, but the HARD drive will be formatted.

    Hi emiquestion:

Long 'check for updates...' crashes and slow window updates are a currently a problem common to many users of Vista SP2 - please see the workaround suggested, I posted yesterday over BluesBlaster WINDOWS VISTA 32-BIT updates.

Note that it is a temporary workaround and updates slow Windows will probably return each Patch Tuesday (the second Tuesday of the month) after Microsoft also releases a new batch of updates to security for Vista SP2 and IE9.  Since September 2016 Patch Tuesday updates are published tomorrow (13-Sep-2016), it would be wise to wait a day or two to execute step-by-step instructions posted on June 16, 2016, in m #l's thread of updates does not, he has been looking for updates for hours and save yourself a bit of extra work this month.  Dalai normally updates its list of Windows kernel mode driver (Win32K.sys) implemented to date required the same evening that the Patch Tuesday, updates are published by Microsoftto the http://wu.krelay.de/en/ .

Be sure to contact the Skype Support like this might be a known issue and they might have the solution.
There is also information and on the Skype Forums.

    Skype - Support
    https://support.Skype.com/en-us/

    http://Forum.Skype.com/

Also check with the manufacturer of the system, their drivers and documentation support online and ask
    their forums (if any).

    ============

You will probably need to reload the drivers of the device and any camera control software.

    Login as an administrator.

Double-click Control Panel / Device Manager - Imaging - writing down of the brand and model of camera.
on this subject and on the tab of the driver is version. Now, click on update drivers (who are unable to do anything as MS
is far behind the pilots of certification). RIGHT click on the camera - UNINSTALL - REBOOT - it
    will update the driver stack.

Now, go to the system manufacturer's website and download the latest driver for the camera and the other related camera
software (if not more recent get the same).

Download - SAVE - go to them and RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN - reboot after each driver.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

Then let windows updates on however prevent loading of drivers who are often older than the
