Performance degradation after filesystemio_option = none setall.

Hi all

We deal with the degradation in performance after the filesystemio_option = setall from none on my two servers as mentioned below.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 7) 2.6.9 55.le ELhugemem (32 bit)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga) 2.6.18 92.1.10.el5 (64-bit)

We see a lot of disc that passes. We expected "* filesystemio_option = setall *" will improve performance, but it's degrading. "." Get us slow complains.

Please let me know we need to put something else with this... like all parameter otimizer (e.g. optimizer_index_cost_adj, optimizer_index_caching).

Help, please.

Hi Suraj,

You changed filesystemio_options setall zero, therefore, the most likely reason for the degradation of performance after setall crossing is the implementation of the arm. Direct I/O will jump the filesystem buffer cache, and so Oracle read directly on the disk in the database buffer cache. However, in a system where direct i/o is not being implemented, which is what you had until you missed recently with this setting, it is likely that you have a cache buffers undersized of database, but that was ok, because many (more), your database has been done have been effectively supported by the o/s file system buffer cache. But you presented direct IO and wiped out the ability of the o/s of service all e/s physical filesystem buffer cache. This means that each absence of cache on the database buffer cache, turns into a real, physical, spin-the-disk IO, move car-head, physical. And you have performance implications.

OK, end of speculation. Now, assuming that what I have described above actually happens, what to do? Why direct I/O lower is that the buffer non - heading e/s? If its performance doesn't have to be higher?

Well, when you have a system that uses I/O in the buffer and you spend to direct I/O, almost always will have to increase the size of the database buffer cache. The problem is that you have taken a chunk of memory away from the the o/s, which he used to your IO buffer and avoid the physical i/o. So, now, you have to make up for it, by increasing the size of the database buffer cache. You can do it, without having to buy more memory for the box, because the o/s will most need to use as much memory for file system buffers.

So, what to do? It is better to go? Well, on the whole, it is a good idea to use direct i/o and give Oracle a cache buffers more large database, for the simple fact that (especially on a server that is dedicated to being an Oracle database server), Oracle has much more sophisticated caching algorithms and a better understanding of the different types of data set caching and so should be able to use more effective use of memory, only the (relatively) brain dead algorithms for kernel mechanisms and the cache file system.

But, again, everything comes down to this:
What problem are you trying to solve? Do you have any I/O related issues? Do you have any compelling reason to implement direct i/o? Rule #1 is 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it."you violated the rule #1? :-)

Finally, since you are on Linux, you can use 'free' to see how much memory is on the box, how much is free, and how much is dedicated to the cache file system buffers. This answer is already quite long, so I won't go into details, however, if you are not familiar with the command, the results could be misleading. Read the manual page and try to be clear about the understanding before making any assumptions concerning the release.

Hope that helps,

-Mark

  • performance degrades after the collection of statistics

    Oracle 11 g 2 OEL 5

We have several very large tables (40 million lines and more) and recently we gathered stats on tables and it degraded our performance. He began to do table scans complete rather than use the index. The same queries are very well in other environments. Only difference is the collection stats. Logically, the performance should be better after the collection of statistics. But it is rather poor.

I ran track 10053 on request and I see that the cardinality and the cost is medium high in the inefficient environment. A test, I have restored the old stats in the environment and it put everything back to normal - the query runs quickly again. Note that the restored stats were collected for more than a year. Should not collect us statistics regularly on very large tables?

    Thank you.

    Hello

the stats of the default collection behavior is to determine the number of cells (i.e. a histogram is necessary or not and if yes, how accurately must be) automatically, depending on distribution and usage of the column of data in different types of predicates. This means that, in many cases collection histogram is almost a random process - once you get a histogram, the next time that you don't have, even if there is almost no change. This is (unfortunately) the normal behavior.

I could quite at the bottom of your question - the optimizer esteem seem to be all correct in the second case, it is not clear to me why the plan that is so bad (there are also some other problems, as lines of 40G supposed to be returned by one of the nested loops, or estimation of cardinality missing for another nested loop). But in any case, histograms and bind variables do not mix, so you can just solve your problem by specifying method_opt => "for columns size 1' to disable the histograms for this table.

  • First Pro CC 2015.0.1 performance degradation

May have figured out the answer, but maybe ask here anyway will help others...

Background: race Windows 7 Pro on an Intel Core i7 to 4.0 Ghz processor, 16 GB of ram; PNY/Nvidia Quadro K2200, 4 GB of ram. three 2 TB Western Digital Black HDs put in place for performance (as I read somewhere..).

Project is really minimal. All Canon 5DM 2 (*.) MOV clips) from 6 to 10 minutes each. Now to eight sequences, more than one to three separate clips, about 14 minutes longer. Audio is of the clips only.

Get all the clips to each new sequence: Motion/scale 105 and Motion/Rotation-1, 0; Color Lumetri; Unsharp mask; Volume control; Vocal Enhancer; and a low-pass filter on them. Some of the specific parameters (in particular, Lumetri color and low-pass filter) are adjusted back within a single sequence.

As I continue to add footage and edit each, I see a gradual but a degradation in performance deep, to the point that the last two sequences can't play the 'Fit' and 'reading of 1/2 resolution' without stopping every second or two, sometimes for four or five seconds. I'm * not * do the death "Has become" refractory Glas.

All sequences have the infamous "Red Bar".

As soon as I 'Render effects in work area' the red bar turns green and I seem to be good to go.

    So, questions:

    (1) if I know I'll apply the effects specific to all the clips to each new sequence, just do that, rendered effects just here and before I do all the detailed changes and pick up a cup of coffee until the new sequence has a green bar?

I think I know the answer to that, but confirmation would be appreciated.

    (2) effects that I use on each clip, which struck such a deep performance: effects on the video itself, or on the audio?

Again, I think I know the answer to that, but once again confirmation would be appreciated.

    Then:

    (3) is the Premiere Pro keep track of * all * another non-rendus sequences and clips, so that even if I'm working only a sequence at the same time, all previous, unreturned sequences (their presence is kept in memory, or in a file somewhere that is constantly struck on) are slow and cumulative performance, such as the harder I work and add new sequences , more performance degrade until the PP is simply unusable. Again, this is * not * a project complex, by any means. I do not understand why work on the eighth or ninth sequence causes such a performance deeply moved when working on the first or the second does not.

If this is the case, a revision of software might be in order, such as immediate execution is only affected by the not rendered clip, one that is being developed at the moment.

  • Bug report: Power Manager causes performance slowed after resume from hibernation

I use Windows 7 and several versions of the power manager, including the last 6.63.1 of a 220 X.

If I Hibernate the computer, when I'm back, everything is very slow. For example, it takes several seconds for a page to display after clicking a tab in Chrome, but it's just an example, almost everything is unresponsive. This happens for about 5-10 min, but eventually everything will work normally. It seems to be related to the use of high page files. More I wait to take over after the hibernation, the biggest problem seems to be taking.

The deactivation of the service to be able to eat has not corrected the problem, but after uninstalling the power manager, the problem will disappear completely.

I've seen several reports of that of others. This person, it connects to Power Manager, but does not give many details.

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-performance/unresponsive-after-resume-fro...

This person is also connected Power Manager, but gives a description of how he did, which can be useful for you.

    http://asqueella.blogspot.com/2012/07/Windows-7-resuming-from-hibernation-is.html

I have reinstalled Power Manager, because the computer is unusable after hibernation. I love the program, however, so it would be nice if you can solve this problem.

    Best wishes

    Justin

    Justin_KM,

I have discussed this with the Power Manager team and they think that this problem can occur because of a feature called Fast Hibernation summary power manager.  The idea is that Power Manager will page out most application on the drive memory before hibernation.  Then the hibernation file will be as small as possible, resulting in a faster recovery time.  But I guess it can cause this side effect, you found if several applications are page in a lot of memory, disk, after sleep.  Then you would end up with the use of the disc heavy and slow application performance, until finally the memory is restored from pagefile.

Anyway, if you want to retry Power Manager, please install the latest version and then apply this reg file to disable the feature that we believe that your problem is initially:

    https://DL.dropboxusercontent.com/u/62276273/DisableFastHibernationResume.reg

Restart after applying the reg file.  This assumes that you are running 64-bit Windows.  If you are running 32-bit Windows, let me know and I'll give you a different reg file.

  • Why performance degrades overtime when insert/update/delete VARBINARY?

I use TimesTen directly related. I created a table with a column of type VARBINARY (100000). My test program inserts a line of 8K bytes in this table, then updates that row with another 8K bytes, then finally deletes this line. If I do the insertion/upgrade to update / delete 10000 times in my program, the number of performances is about 8000 operations per second. But if I do 300000 times, performance is about 4000 transactions per second.

I do not understand why the performance degrades over time? Anyone understand it?

    Thank you!

Based on the workload that you describe, and the fact that you see LOG_BUFFER_WAITS increasing this is likely to be the main problem here. Increasing the size of the log buffer and the size of the file should reduce or eliminate this problem. Depending on the type of disk array and how it is configured, you can still see a performance impact when checkpoints occur if the log files are on the same set of disks than the newspapers. Let us know how you go.

  • Performance degrades in Probook s 4540 after upgrade memory

Hello. I installed recently in my memory modules two Kingston Probook4540 (2x8gb ddr3 1600 CL10 240 pins). Since I did this, Windows 8 is much longer to start and performance dropped considerably. But, if I put only one of the two modules, or the original 4 GB module, Windows runs at normal speed.

I think it's a BIOS problem, as I see this error even on laptops the other brand, for example here
    http://superuser.com/questions/379970/laptop-is-incredibly-slow-after-RAM-upgrade

I have the latest BIOS version available (F31 26-SEP-2012).

    Thank you.

In case anyone is still interested in this topic:

It is a solution that worked for me.

It is not an official solution or supported.

I used the laptop intensively in the described configuration and had no problems that I can relate to the configuration of the memory.

Deduct from a 256 MB RAM memory available for OS could eliminate the problem for some processors.

    The solution runs on:
    -HP 4540S

    -i5 - 2450M

    -AMD/Intel switchable graphics card

    -16 GB OF RAM

    -Bios F.42

It might work for other processors.

Under Windows, you should deduct 256 MB of RAM, using EasyBCD or a similar tool.

    Instructions for EasyBCD:

Under Advanced settings/developer set 256 under "MiB deducted from physical memory", save the settings and reboot.

In Linux, the "mem = 17G" value in the boot of the kernel settings (actually deducted 256 MB).

    Edit:

On Windows 7 and later versions, you can also use the following instead of EasyBCD:

    bcdedit/set {current} removememory 256

(Run the command at the prompt with administrator privileges and restart).

  • Sensor mapping VI Express performance degrades over time

I was trying to make a visualization 3d of some data from the sensor. I did a template and was able to use with the 3d photo tool sensor mapping Express VI. Initially, it seems to work perfectly, and I started to increase the scene with other objects to improve the user experience. Unfortunately, I think I am doing something wrong, at this point. When I add the map sensor object to other objects, something like a leak memory occurs. I'm starting to experience the degradation of performance almost immediately.

I don't know how I should add to better add in reference of the Map sensor to the scene as an object. Normally, I create these child relationships first, before doing anything to objects, beyond creation, movement and anchorage. Since the map sensor output reference is available only AFTER the express vi run. My compromise solution, currently, is to have a case statement of controlled by the constant "First Call". So far, the performance seems to be much better.

Does anyone have a better solution? Am I even manipulate these objects the way the t community - it?

EDIT: Included the vi and stl files.

I agree with Hunter, your current solution is simple and effective, and I can't really see a much better way to accomplish the same task.

Just as a side, note the simplest and the easiest to force the order of execution is to use the error on the functions and the screws in your block diagram. From here with an example based on the VI VI you have posted. (If you paste the image into your drawing, you can make changes to the code)

Given that you have expressed an interest in the documentation links to 3D image controls, I did some research and found a few articles that might interest you. • Satellite L50-B-16V - Starcraft 2 performance decreased after update BIOS?

    Hello

I played Starcraft 2 for awhile on my Satellite L50-B-16V using average settings quite fluently, however, now the computer's performance has worsened considerably. Framerate decreases with the increase of number of units in the game, in the end that I get framerate as images 1 / 3 sec, even low settings.

The only thing that has changed since the game worked fine, was updated to BIOS to version 2.0. Could it be the cause of the problem? And if so, is it a safe way to downgrade the BIOS to 1.9?

    Thank you.
    Karel

    Hello

The BIOS update should not affect the performance of the game.
But after the BIOS update you should definitely take the default settings of the BIOS (by pressing F9 in BIOS). Then save the changes and exit the BIOS.

In addition, you must check the AMD/ATI settings in the ATI Control Center.
As I m not wrong no you can increase the performance of the GPU but of course, it would increase GPU s heat dissipation and temperature s notebook would be upward.

  • Marvell degraded after any installed software or update table

First of all, this isn't my first raid array (of any type) so I have a little experience and think I understand 'General' principles to govern the raid if arrays an array of hardware or software. That said, it's my first painting of controller Marvell. It is a D20 (Windows 10 PRO) with the Marvell controller on board. RAID5 on 4 popular Intel SSD with a hot spare. What is happening is that, whenever there is an update or install new software, when you restart the dashboard reports (via bios) that the table is "degraded". It's always the same physical disk (#15) and the table rebuild after that select this degraded by car. If it's always the same disc, is the reader 'wrong', and how test drive?

I noticed that the MRU offers a few options 'Adapter 0' including 'Synchronization rate', 'Initialization rate', ' rebuild ', 'optimize CPU efficiency', 'Automatic Reconstruction' and 'Survey S.M.A.R.T. Status' adjustments. What are 'best practices' for these parameters? Surely there is somewhere I can read about setting options? Can I activate the option 'Auto-Rebuild' or get some other issue I should be concerned? (Like a bad drive?)

    Thoughts?

Well, as I had new SATA cables, I changed all four cables. And now on restart each port is followed by a single point. I'm comfortable that this problem of 'bad' SATA cable has been the heart of my problem. Time will be the test final but, I'm pretty comfortable that the new SATA cables has solved my table degrading the problem. I have jusat struggled to imagine that, on four, a new ssd could be bad. Turned out to be a simple mechanical failure of a cable connection. Maybe it was an intermittent connection, maybe bad wire... is okay now, it seems to be fixed.

Thank you, Erik, for your help and your suggestions.
