Permanent deletion

Hi guys

I'm about to upgrade my laptop. Once I transferred my data to the new one I want to make sure that the data on my laptop 32 bit existing are completely cleaned the HARD drive and includes business and financial information. I was told that if I run a program like CCleaner and then perform a defrag which should be enough to prevent anyone ever call to any other data.

Is this correct or is it to do?

Kind regards

Graham

If you plan to sell or give your old laptop to someone, the first thing you need to decide is if you want to have an operating system (e.g., Windows) and any application or if you are ready to sell everything naked.

If you don't require that the laptop have an operating system, the best way to proceed (short of physically remove the disk and keep it or destroy it physically) is to use Darik Boot and Nuke (DBAN).  You download an ISO file, use a program such as ImgBurn to create a bootable CD, the laptop with the boot CD that you created when DBAN is running, so effectively erases and replaces everything on the disc.

If you want the laptop to be functional, you can not use DBAN unless you have the installation media to install Windows and everything you want to have on the laptop.  Unfortunately, most people don't have the Windows installation media - and DBAN will wipe away any hidden restore partition, so you can't count on that.

Besides using Ccleaner in his usual fashion, you will also need to search and delete all the data files you do not want to leave behind, and then use the function 'clear clear' CCleaner to make sure these 'deleted' files cannot be easily resumed.  Even in this case, there could be personal information recorded in places you don't expect, including in the Windows registry.  All depends on how paranoid you are.

For a little more on this subject, see the discussion here--> http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=300890

If I were you, I would choose one of the following 3 options:

  • wipe the drive with DBAN and rid you of the laptop with no operating system or anything else installed
  • wipe the drive with DBAN and reinstall Windows
  • Remove the disc, keep it to use as a backup drive or archive (in a 2.5 "external enclosure) and has the laptop without any hard disk

  • permanently deleted photos are REALLY gone?

I accidentally deleted permanently 'iPhoto events' album of my iPhone > iCloud > Mac. I went from 8 000 to 2,000 photos. I've restored some of them of an old backup from time machine (March, 2013). My iCloud account clearly reflects the deletion. I was told that the hard drive data recovery options were futile, because data have been obliterated. Ditto for the Flash to the iPhone. I have renounced all forms of recovery of data a week ago, but now this question keeps nagging me: maybe I missed something? My precious photos are REALLY gone?

What do you think average them permanently deleted, do you mean you deleted and then removed again from the recently deleted album.

The iPhone path > iCloud > Mac doesn't mean anything to me, I'm afraid, but if the pictures have been synchronized on your Mac and you use time machine on the Mac, photos should be recoverable.

  • Impossible to permanently delete iTunes Playlist

I seem to have a playlist iTunes ghost on my iPhone 5s that I can't seem to permanently delete.

You can see the contents of the playlist in the image below. I can select each song and remove them, but they come back after I have sync the iPhone with iTunes on my Mac mini.

I'm sure I'm wrong, but is there a way to permanently delete this playlist on my iPhone? Thanks in advance!

TT2 is the iTunes of real experts around here, so hopefully it will chime.

In the meantime, I guess that you delete the playlist in iTunes. Is this correct? I also see that the songs have the dreaded punctuated by circles next to them. Which is never a good thing, I know. I read that if you unsync your music and delete this and then Resync, these circles go away and the music should appear on the device again. Then you should be able to remove them properly.

I will admit that I am no expert on iTunes, but I know that dotted circles are not good.

  • Why not junk detector permanently delete suspicious mail rather than send it to the junk e-mail folder? SOLVED caused by McAfee spam controls

Recently, from a month ago or so, when I open Thunderbird and it connects to my ISP to download new e-mail messages, e-mails that the Junk detector "think" might be spam, these emails are deleted immediately permanently instead of being moved to my Junk folder, as I've mentioned Thunderbird in all options on how to manage junk e-mail. I know that there have been e-mails that were sent to me for the first time by a new friend or colleague whom I have not yet put in my contacts folder. In fact, I know an e-mail in particular when someone sent me his email address in the email that comes to be obtained permanently deleted. So if anyone knows what's happening here and what I can do to stop this behavior, I'd be very grateful all assistance. This time, to monitor the activity, I connect to my e-mail through my ISP account so I can examine what is in the Inbox ready to be downloaded in Thunderbird before you start Thunderbird. It is a nuisance, but is the only way I know for the moment to monitor all my incoming mail. Thank you!

Sorry for the delay in the publication... Disable McAfee spam controls solve my problem. All incoming messages marked as spam is successfully sent to my junk e-mail folder.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Cannot permanently delete files in the trash

I have a file in the Recycle Bin that contains 2 other empty folders. When I try to empty the trash he says that the top folder is in use.  When I try to permanently delete the folders below it says that I don't have permission even if I read / write on all 3.  How can I get rid of these?

Try to restart, then empty the trash.

  • Permanently deleted emails?

As I was using Thunderbird, my Inbox of the list began to scroll as each email has been deleted in turn. I left as soon as possible and tried to retrieve the mail from the trash. I was able to move e-mails from the Inbox, but the most recent emails have been deleted permanently. I connect to Gmail via IMAP. When I checked it, permanently deleted messages were gone there too. I'm not the best typist and may have struck a strange combination of control-key, but it's a * really * bad result. I thought I had some sort of automatic backup storing messages locally in Thunderbird as well as in Gmail. The impression that my emails have been permanently deleted on my computer, and then that was referred to Gmail. But I did not remove one of those emails myself and certainly does not bypass it Recycle Bin (if that's even possible).
Of course I can just done something brain-dead, but maybe this will give other people a heads up?

If you press shift + delete, the message is deleted without collar for thrash before, maybe, you press this combination

  • I had installed a new driver and then downloaded Firefox 7. It has more than 100 witnesses in the download. Delete cookies in the browser do not help since then is in the download. How can I permanently deletes these cookies? Thank you.

Since it's in the download, I'm unable to permanently delete these (more than 100) cookies and they continue to reproduce whenever I open the browser. Sometimes cookies will not delete when I try to delete the cookie "only" and I have to remove "all". I used Firefox as my browser for years, but this never happened.

  • Permanently delete an item from my library and computer - Windows, iTunes 12.3.3.17

I want to permanently delete an item from my library and computer - Windows, iTunes 12.3.3.17

I read this post from Apple. But I do not get option 3.

    Can someone please help.

Link: 12 iTunes for Windows: delete the songs, playlists or other elements

    Option not to get:

    Do one of the following:

    • Remove the item from your iTunes library only: click on a file to keep.
    • Remove the item from your computer: click on move to the trash. The item is deleted the next time you empty the trash.

The exact behavior on deletion depends on the location of the file in question as iTunes encourage you only to recycle the files located in the iTunes Media folder. Behavior also differs if you are working in a playlist rather than saying the main music source. Shift + delete can be used to remove it from the library while you watch a playlist. Removal of media bought may lead to additional confirmation dialog boxes, as well as the use of iTunes game or Apple's music.

If you keep your media outside of the folder of media to iTunes standard see KillSelectedFiles for a script that does just what it says.

Thank you for posting the exact text of the message you get, verbatim. It is not
legitimate and you shouldn't send them anything. We'll know more as soon as
You see the message, but always certainly you are infected by a rogue
antivirus protection. The message telling you that you have a virus is itself
    malware.

    Hello

I got an email that was in my folder of spam on June 1, 2011.  Rather than consider this email, I clicked on the 'X' box that appeared next to my Junk folder in my Windows Live Mail client.  This permanently deleted email in my spam folder.  I wish I had this email restored in order to see what it was.  Is there a way to do this?  Thank you!

I have Windows XP, using Outlook Express, and I accidently deleted all the emails to the breast of one of my files, and then click permanently delete also.  Yes, I was tired and probably should wait until later, but here I am. lesson learned.

Can I get back all those emails (the record) even though I have them permanently removed?

    Thank you

If it was very recent, one of these tools should do. If you have compacted because you deleted, only DBXpress run in extract from disk mode has a chance.

  • The items are permanently deleted and not going is not to the trash

Someone can tell me why what I delete is permanently deleted and not going not in the trash, it started only in recent days, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Not being is not to change the properties of recycle bin is definitely not normal.  Have you checked for viruses again?

You also have some installed system utilities that could be the cause?  I remember years ago there are installation of Norton Utilities and there was an option to take control of the trash.  If you have a utility like this, it could be responsible for what you see.  Have you installed software in the last days?  Did you changed settings recently?

An option that you can take advantage is the system restore to go back a few days before the problem started.  To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.

    Good luck.
