Permissions - cannot delete folders

Even if I am logged in as an administrator, I can't delete a folder that is on my desk. I took 'ownership' of the file (I think) and my user account has "Full control" of the record. When I try to delete the folder it says I need permission to do so. What should I do? If I am the only admin on my computer how to I need approval to remove folders?

Start safe mode and see if you can remove it. If this is not the case, use this tool.

Check your permissions.  Most of the permissions for the files and folders under "My Documents" folder are inherited from the permissions set on the folder 'My Documents'.  The one piece of information that you left out was if you have XP Pro or XP Home. To check or set your permissions, right-click on a file or folder, then select 'Properties', then click on the 'Security' tab at the top, then click "Advanced".  If you do not have a Security tab is for the following reasons:

    (1) you have XP Pro and you use the sharing files Simple - in this case, refer to the following article:
"How to disable the file sharing simple and how to set permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP"

    (2) you have XP Home... in which case, you must start mode safe mode as an administrator for the 'Security' tab appears.

Another method, although it's ugly, is to use the command "cacls" from a command prompt window.

  • Cannot delete folders under MY FILES in Organizer-

Running Windows 8.1 and items 12.1.

I tried the solution that I found in this forum about delete or rename the psa.prf file (Organizer folder cannot be deleted).  I have the same situation as this person with 2 folders. These folders do not exist on my computer. I have remove the folders elements but put them in the trash. I uninstalled items several times and reinstalled but 2 files always appear in the Organizer.

Apparently items cannot cope with their loss.  I created new folders and name them even with the same content, but I can remove them yet. (Although the type appears in black now).  I get an error message that the files cannot be deleted.

I do not have a file named psa.prf on my HD. I have a file called psa.  I tried to delete and rename. No luck. There was another preferences file in the folder called APDPeferences Organizer.  I removed that but not luck

I tried to reset the default preferences in the Organizer... but these two folders are still there.

I tried to establish several scenarios of organizing items 12/12.1 to try to reproduce your situation, but strikes me a problem or another.

  • Cannot delete folders in the USB

    Hello

Somehow I have 256 files named QQQQQQQQ.qqq in my external USB drive.

And three visus different scans do not detect the virus.

They are defined as READ ONLY.

But I can't delete these folders; I can't change the owner of these files to edit only unread.

    Can anyone help?

A shot in the dark, perhaps, but have you tried to format the flash drive? If there are items that you want to keep, save them on your computer temporarily.

  • Make the NTFS read/write permissions without possibility to create/delete folders

Out to one of our sites, we have a server running Windows Server R2 of 2012 which took a file share accessible to our people on the spot. Our project managers have developed a very strict folder for this file share structure, and for the purposes of verification, they want to stick to the closer this structure as possible.

Therefore, although the local people must have read/write access to create, edit, and delete files, they won't they are able to create or delete folders. They want to use the existing folders and not to store stuff in folders that nobody knows there is except for the person who created them.

The closest way to you, I got to do is to uncheck the advanced permissions "create folders / adding data" and "Delete subfolders and files." This has some side effects, however, the most notable being the inability to add data to the files, some files (such as CAD drawings) can be changed by anyone except the person who created them.

Is there a way using only the NTFS permissions to accomplish what the project leaders? And if not, are there any third-party utilities that will help us do this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Impossible to remove an unknown account, get the error 'cannot delete the unknown account because this object inherits permissions from its parent.

I have several programs that when I go to security there is an unknown account and when I try to delete unknown account I get this message that you cannot delete the Unknown(S-1...) account because this object inherits from its parent perssions. To delete the Unknown(S-1...) account, you must prevent this object from inheriting permissions. Turn off the option for the inheritance of permissions and then try to delete the Unknown(S-1...) account again. I tried the edit and advance features in respect of security without success. Why have I not control over security permissions?

Found a solution to this problem.

Go to the folder parent of the folder that contains the files with this unknown account number:
    1. right click on the PARENT folder, and then click Properties.
    2. on the Security tab, go to the advanced options (bottom window)
    3. in the new window, click the button change the permissions in the bottom.
    4. Select the Group (NOT AUTHENTICATED, just of users USERS) users
    5. check "replace all permissions of child object with permissions inheritable of this object.
    6. click on the OK button or apply and done, fixed number.

Hope this helps anyone else having this problem, for me it happened after reinstallation of win 7 on the same machine and keep my images on another partition, so it was spared by the new facility, so the old user account was always on the file permissions.

  • Cannot delete the music due to the error of the Admin

Hi all, I recently met a mistake with my administrator account. Whenever I try to delete a file or a folder in 'My music', I get a message saying "you need to provide the staff privileges to perform this action." I am the only admin on my laptop, but it told me I must ask permission to administrator with the administrator. He also mentioned the name of my admin profile (S117/mozman). I tried to take possession of the file, to see that I have already. Change permissions does not work and the possibility to apply the change to all folders and containers in the folder is grayed out permanently. I'm out of space fast hard drive and so far have not allowed to delete anything music, photos, videos or any other media besides file. Any assistance or solutions would be greatly popular. Thank you =)

Well, I tried this and I've had some success. I stopped getting the message "you need administrator permission", and instead he traded in the ' cannot delete files: access is denied "or something like that. In all cases, I did all my permissions and other things, it turns out that some malicious software must have gotten past my windows firewall and established a camp in my music folder. A scan quick rootkit well fixed. Thank you very much for your contribution :)

Cannot delete files on Vista Ultimate vidoe as owner/administrator.

I am the owner and administrator of my laptop and a single user. I am running Vista Ultimate. I have video files, that I can't remove. In the Properties window, it says I have full access and permissions for the files and folders. However, I get the message "Destination folder access denied."  Or "you must be authorized to perform this action." I get the window with the options RETRY or CANCEL. So boring. Any help would be great. I'm not a pro with computers, but know my way around the essentials. Step by step would be great. Thank you!

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box.  Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

  • Cannot delete a file.

I copied the SC5.exe of a SuperCalc installation disk on my desktop. Now I can't delete it, I get the error that it is used by another program or person. How can I find what who or who is using it?

    Hello

Use the Safe Mode if possible - repeatedly, press F8 that you start.

    If necessary, use these utilities

    UnLocker (free) + 1.91
    http://unlocker.emptyloop.com/

Download - SAVE - go to where you put it-click on - RUN AS ADMIN

Below also work on Vista 64 bit

Another good alternative - use FileAssassin:

    FileAssassin - free
    http://www.Malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php

Force delete (cannot delete) closed or in used files or folders with FileASSASSIN
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-FileASSASSIN/

    And this - MoveOnBoot

    MoveOnBoot
