  I got 2 phone calls today claiming to be from Microsoft saying that my warranty on my software windows o/s was exhausted that my pc was sending all sorts of error messages for them and it was so full of spyware and malware and the only way to remedy this was to pay £80 for a years warranty and they would clean my pc otherwise if left intact it would soon crash and be unrecoverable the pc was purchased from Dixons 4 years with Vista Home Prem installed, it's just? , I thought it was a scam as it the phone number was not available, anyone else had this? .

  If you know who is in contact with you, then you can either call their phone service provider and ask them to try to block the number or contact your local police.

  Microsoft has nothing to do with those calls.

  It's a scam and the calls are received in Europe and North America we know... probably in Asia and South America also.  Name and telephone number could come from "the directory" or any public documents.  Protect you by doing exactly what you did... you were enough NET determine this was a scam and you have hung up.

• I've been doing a series of phone calls telling me that my license key for my Windows is about to expire. Is it a reality or just somone trying to rip me off?

  Last week to 10 days, I received lots of calls from someone called PC Support (which sound as if they come from the India) telling me that they want to access my PC to show me the problems that are reported to them from my ISP about something and real operating system Windows on the license key is about to expire.

  I suspect that it is a new scam to try to sell the product, anti-virus/malware any... but it got me wondering whether or not it is a real-world scenario.

  Can someone me one way or another?

  I also received a phone call from an Indian man who said I had a virus, I did not open anything but try to connect but could not it says something like unable to connect that someonelse is connected, I tried to log on my girls password and the same thing happened there.   Only way he could access your computer is if you gave him the passwords, or enables a remote access connection by... you should have to install Teamviewer, Logmein or other legitimate applications and then give the code to access it.

  Because they use the internet lines and/or phone to complete their fraud, there may be federal agencies in your country who are interested in discovering their calls. Their report directly to the appropriate agency if you feel you can contribute to their arrest and the charges.

  Microsoft do NOT pick up the phone and start dialing customers and never phones/e-mails asking for personal information or asking them to visit a web site! Please do not take into account these calls and hang up immediately.
