  I'm not an apple person.  I read on a few different forums that apple has changed what is called 'writing' in a recent update to apple.  You may need to find an Apple expert to show you how to make sure you are allowed to write to files or locations on your computer.

  The D800 has been supported since Lightroom 4.1.

  You use an earlier version of the Nikon software to transfer files from camera to computer? Older versions are known to make Raw files unreadable by Adobe software.

  Try to download a version update of Nikon. Or use a different card for example reader method.

  Need of this camera camera raw 8.2 or later. Cannot use this CS5 version. You will need to download the 9.1 free dng converter and convert your images to DNG version CS5 can handle.

  There are essentially 4 different solutions to this common problem with the older PES software:

  (1) upgrade to the latest version 14;  It's not free.

  (2) the software should come with your camera and download pictures on your computer;

  (3) your operating system may have some updates to download images from your camera.

  (4) use Adobe DNG converter and it is still free.  The latest version is:

  Connect photo/card reader to your computer and drag image files into a temporary folder (or your desktop).

  A cable/card reader/port can go wrong from one hour to the next, so you have to find the root of your problem using any other material.

  I use LR 1.4 and I try to import my new Panasonic LX-3 raw files. LR does not recognize the file type - told me there is nothing to download. I downloaded DNG converter 5.4 with the hope that that would do the trick. LR does not communicate with the DNG Converter, or, well, I don't know what.

  Can someone tell me how to import LX-3 raw files in LR 1.4? I'd rather not spend the money to upgrade to LR 2.4

  Use the raw DNG Converter to convert raw files to DNG (keep the original raw files). Then you can import the dng files in LR and they have to be posted.

IPhoto will read raw images and I can drag images from iphoto to lightroom but Lightroom will not load raw images from my camera. Help, please.

  This may seem backwards, but several times when the message says "cannot be read", it means that you don't have write permission in the destination folder where the RAW photos will be written.  You should check your permissions.
