  It came pre-intalled with Windows 7. I have need of a system re - install. However I can't because the files corrupted. After disucssion with Microsoft Support, they told me that I need a Windows 7 disc install (I never made one). I followed the advice of assistance from the HP Web site at

  However I get message this product is not recognized. My question is if I use the boot advanced options do I need a Windows 7 disc? Or could I buy a new drive for Windows 8? Is it important that my laptop was pre-installed with Windows 7? I hope this makes sense. Any help on this would be most appreciated!

  Try the following.

  Judgment of the laptop by holding down the SHIFT key when you click Shutdown to prevent the startup of Windows 8 hybrid.

  Tap away at the esc you key start Notepad to open the Start Menu.  Insert the Windows 7 installation disc.  Select boot options ( f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and press ENTER.  You can also get a prompt to "Press any key to" continuous - it if requested.

  If recovery option can access the OS (and your account), it may apply to you if you want to back up your data before recovery - should you be offered the option, say Yes.

  I'm not sure (given the odd circumstances) if there will be problems getting later for (backup) data.  But if asked, say that you want to backup.

  Good luck.

  

  Finally, when you get the computer working again, consider using history file to backup your data on an external drive.  History of the available files on Windows 8 and above.

  I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your 15 HP Pavilion Notebook and brightness does not properly. I see that if you change the balanced power plan options option in the book will help. Here is a link that will help you. Go to your power options.
  Select balance, then click on change plan settings. Click on change advanced power settings. Then save changes. Sometimes just changing and selecting apply it and change it back solves this problem.

  You can try to use the Windows Update Troubleshooter to fix updates that do not come through Windows 8.  Please restart the laptop twice to make sure that all updates are completed!

  You can also try:

  In Device Manager, click the arrow next to display adapters to expand this category
  Right-click on the graph, and then select Update driver software if more than 1 graphic adapter do 1 at a time.
  Select search automatically for updated driver software.

  The laptop must find and automatically install the updated driver
  Once the installation is complete, restart your laptop.
