POP3 fails in Thunderbird 24.4?

Today TB auto-amélioré to 24.4 and I noticed that my mail accounts that use POP3 all stopped working. NSPR newspapers show the same kind of failure for accounts on different Internet service providers. IMAP accounts continue to work very well.

The only somewhat unusual extension I have is enigmail 1.6, but running with disabled extension gives exactly the same behavior.

I tried to reinstall TB 24.4 since a new download, but see no change. I'm under TB on a day of Win7 64 bit system.

Anyone has any suggestions for what to try next?

not really very useful, if you restart windows in safe mode with network, don't mail flow?

  • SMTP works, but POP3 fails

I've been a Thunderbird user for about 8-10 years now, and I use it with multiple e-mail accounts. I met a configuration problem, I've never seen before, and I can't find a solution (so far).

I changed my ISP broadband from Comcast to the border. With Frontier, of course, I get an e-mail account. I can access and use the account very well via webmail. However, when I manually configured in Thunderbird (configure automatically produces the wrong settings), password authentication will fail.

When I try the Advanced Configuration, SMTP works, but POP3 fails.

I contacted the support of the border to check the correct settings. They are as follows:

    POP3: pop3.frontier.com, SSL/TLS, Port 995
    SMTP: smtp.frontier.com, SSL/TLS, Port 465

I use the full email address for the user name. He checked the password on the POP3 server, and that's okay. I also disabled my firewall, but it did not help.

I'm puzzled as to why SMTP should work, but not of POP3.

    They don't support IMAP.

    Any ideas, anyone?

Your idea to try the iPhone was a good. It also generated the same error, which suggests that it was not a question of Thunderbird after all.

I ended up calling border once again, and the technology and I ran through everything once more. All the combinations that we have tried has failed.

Then, on a whim, I suggested that we try to set a different, shorter password.

The one I had initially set was complex with special characters and about 15-20 characters long.

We changed it for a subject from 8 to 10 characters long, with special characters.

    It worked.

    Incredible.

Thanks for your help with this one, Toad Hall.

  • I want to save an IMAP via POP3 account in Thunderbird, but it will not download old emails that are still on the server. How can I do this?

I start using Thunderbird to save and purge old e-mails from an account via POP3. This account is accessible by other users using IMAP on their computers and mobile phones.

I want to archive and purge old messages from the server using Thunderbird. But it will not download messages that apparently are marked as read on the server via IMAP.

POP mail accounts must be configured to "leave messages on server".
    Check this box before use.

    • Tools > account settings > server for the e-mail account settings

    or

    • menu icon > Options > account settings > server for the e-mail account settings

Select: 'leave messages on the server.

Optional: select: "during the more than xx days" this will remove something more that select the specified number of days "until I have delete" when you delete an email it will be deleted from the server.

Click Ok to save the settings.

POP mail accounts are only looking at the Inbox and download everything that has not been previously downloaded regardless of whether it has been read or not. They cannot access or download from any other folder on the server.

If you want to download the e-mail messages in other directories, you must move the emails in the Inbox to upload and it's may not be practical in your situation.

What you can do is to synchronize your IMAP folders to a copy downloaded to your IMAP e-mail account.
Then switch mode 'offline' to stop any additional synchronization synchronized files update.
MozBackup tool could now be used to save the profile synchronization created mbox files that contain emails.

You can also do the following to get a copy outside the IMAP e-mail account:
Create the same folders in the "local folders".
Then right click on the email and "copy to" and select local folders and the folder you need.
Put a copy in the local files means these e-mails are also on your computer and they are not influenced by what you do in the IMAP folder.
You need backup emails in these folders.

The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please check that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'POP3', server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 11001, error number: 0x800CCC0D

This error message indicates that you do not have an account configured in WLMail. POP3 is not a host name or the name of the server.

That said, if you need assistance with WLMail or Hotmail, ask in the appropriate forum. There are not many people in this forum who use these programs.

  • MY POP3 accounts receive emails with lack and truncated attached files. This started only after the most recent update for Thunderbird Version 38.1.0

I recently started having truncated the attachments in the emails to my POP3 accounts. The first I noticed was on 27 July 2015.
I'm running Thunderbird Version 38.1.0 on Windows on Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1. After the test, I found that this happens on all POP3 accounts only. IMAP accounts do not work properly.
A single file is usually truncated, if I send several files to get a complete file one truncated and more sent are missing completely.

I wanted to send a bug report, but your system is unusable because it asks us to load the daily accumulation and essay on a new account, but the link to the daily version is going nowhere. But it's ok

    Thank you

    Thanks Matt.
I had no luck by disabling addons, and I found that I'm unable to start in SafeMode (another problem to solve), but in research and the elimination of other culprits (malware) this problem stopped.

  • Get the "Failed to connect to server" error after having my hosting of emails expire and reconnected. Using the latest version of Thunderbird.

Hi, I am probably doing something really basic and easy to fix but facepalmingly pls have patience with this n00b...
My emails with Crazy Domains Hosting has expired a couple of months, I've just managed to get it reconnected.
When I open Thunderbird once again, I kept getting the error msg "Failed to connect to server".
I checked all the settings for the account, they are all fine as far as I KNOW. Updated to the latest version of Thunderbird, tried to restart the program and doesn't have the obligatory IT Crowd "troid torning it and turn it on again", still get the same message.

    Plaaaaiiss... Halllp!

Regardless of my fault for typing. What is important is that there is nothing in the DNS or whois on the domain.

Look at their own whois server it shows pending deletion, expired in April. http://www.crazydomains.com.au/WHOIS/littleredfoxdesign.com/#result

Until these public information are corrected your not likely to be able to connect because Thunderbird can not find the server. There is no DNS records to point to it.

After that - it's so the router!

It turns out that the router has a 'Firewall' really lame and lazy. In "high security" mode, it allows HTTP/HTTPS.
When "medium security" mode it allows IMAP, SSH, etc.

  • Thunderbird fails to gmail smtp - ssl_error_inappropriate_fallback_alert

I have a new one install a working XP machine. The same version of install on a XP home machine doesn't have the same problem with the same gmail accounts.

On the machine to work with a clean install of 31.3.0 thunderbird, I can't use gmail smtp services. Other services smtp to yahoo and my own domain name to work properly.

    The error log;
    Timestamp: 07/01/2015 08:01:35
Error: An error occurred during a connection to smtp.googlemail.com:465.
The server has rejected the transfer protocol because the customer to a lower version of TLS on the server supports.
    (Error code: ssl_error_inappropriate_fallback_alert)

According to the guide for a firefox problem, I followed the recommendation to change the "security.tls.version.min".
    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/questions/1038836

    For the values 0 and 1, the same error log appears. For the values 2 and 3, that no error log is written in the error console still send mail always fails and;
    The message send failed.
The message could not be sent using SMTP server smtp.googlemail.com for some unknown reason. Check your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator

    Any thoughts?

If you use port 587, then set the connection to use security STARTTLS.

In Thunderbird (not Firefox) "config editor" make sure you have this:

    • Security.TLS.version.Max; 3
    • Security.TLS.version.min; 1
  • Can I use Thunderbird on a LAN if I use POP3 to get my mail?

I use POP3 to bring my mail for a computer on my LAN. I have Thunderbird installed on this computer and all other computers on the LAN. I discovered a way for computers to access and act on mail that is on the computer that leads him to, but he is imperfect. Is there a good way to do this?

If you run a mail Server on your network, everything is open because all mail is local and you can connect all the computers in the account on your imap mail server.

Otherwise, you can use the IMAP protocol because it is and leave the imap folders to a local archive folder then like that will remove them from the server emails.

  • When I delete a message in Thunderbird, it is not deleted from my POP3 server.

I have account as"email on the server" settings and "until I have delete ' both checked. When I delete the email in Thunderbird version 24.4.0, enamel not get deleted on the pop server.

If I create a filter and say "delete server" any e-mail that has a STAR status. Emails get deleted from the server when I run the filter messages.

I don't think I should have to run a filter whenever I want to delete emails from the POP3 server.

I do something wrong... any ideas?

I found the answer on another forum by Tom Wijsman:

Go to Options -> Advanced -> Config Editor.

       Find the Name mail.pop3.deleteFromServerOnMove

       Set it to True.

True: Delete the copy of the message on the POP3 server if you move or delete the message.

False(default): Only delete the copy of the message on the POP3 server if you delete the message.

That of it, restart Thunderbird. You must press "Get Mail" whenever you want to synchronize with the mail server, so that you can to ensure that the messages in the application is in synchronization with the e-mail server.

What follows is to highlight to perform the synchronization with the server. You will not see your message server after the initial download to Get Mail (new downloaded messages). Once you process your Inbox in Thunderbird to delete/move a new message, and then make another mail to get, which will remove messages previously downloaded on the server (phase).

Note: If you have some old messages in your mailbox Thunderbird, they will not be deleted from the server. Delete them manually from the server. Therefore, all new messages you download, then treat (delete/move) and then synchronize up redoing Get Mail will BE deleted.

  • I want to re - send a message exactly as it was originally (it failed to achieve its goal). I can do this in Thunderbird?

I send messages that require a response to send to the entire list of CC. If the message fails to reach the recipient target (unknown cause and nothing to do with Mozilla TB) I always have a copy and can of course she Fwd. But then the ease of reply to all does not work for my correspondent receives the sent copy. In MS Outlook, it is possible to re - send a message to exactly the same conditions as the original. Why not in Thunderbird? Or am I missing something?

How about Message. Change as new? Or do a right click, then Change As New.
