Popup asking me to email Compact

Using XP SP3 and Windows Live Mail Version 2009 (build 14.0.81170416). I get a popup to OUTLOOK EXPRESS! "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This can take up to a few minutes' OK or cancel the choice.

1. why I get an OE message when I run Windows Live Mail.  You suspect OE in clothing Live?

2. what happens when I compact messages?  Can Live Mail still open and read, or I have to hide the mails somewhere?

3. why the OE think I need disk space? I don't.

4. can I turn off this annoying popup?

Thanks for any help or suggestions and explanations.

If you do not OE, then it is likely that the cause is Windows Search.  If you have installed, then go to control panel | Of indexing options and remove OE should be included in the settings (you can right click on the search icon in the taskbar notification area also to get parameters).  If this does not help, then it might be an another part 3 of the program.  But go ahead and OK compaction as you can not turn off unless you disable other programs access to EO, and once you get the prompt, the only way to stop it for another access to OE 100 is to compact.

Outlook Express 6 just ate the value of year of my emails.  They seem to have disappeared.  This happened after I was asked if I wanted compact (or was it archive?) my emails.  All hope of recovery?

    Thank you!

Please read this in its entirety. It includes the restoration of the trash.

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

    Recovery methods:

If you are running XP/SP3, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • Don't ask me again on compacting folders

Whenever I delete an e-mail from the Inbox, I wonder if I want Thunderbird to automatically compact folders. Is it possible to stop this?
When I compact my files everything that happened was losing all my emails, apparently for good so I never do this again!

In the toolbar > Options > advanced > network and disk space. and compact auto power off.

You will need to probably first notice lack following mail when you click on mail and it is simply not displayed. We see a lot of that here as well. It of the same loss of data, without the re-indexing causes compaction. A bed of mails that already existed.

If you have seemed to lose mail in the past, it is usually because at one point in the past. Before compacting your anti virus program has removed all mutant trying to destroy some risks invented.

The folks over at svmantec have been completely indifferent when I tried to address their destructive tendencies. The fact that click on allow Norton to fix deleted any Inbox dating for years to remove something that was totally inert apparently was Ok. And it must be! Customers continue to give their money and by publishing the complaints year after year, or as you blame something else entirely.

For the year people come here with three misconception.
1 thunderbird loses regularly mails. I used it almost 10 years and my household is rubbish. (a few 18 000 emails in my Inbox consuming about 2.3 GB of storage) I've never lost a mail unless I did something stupid first and then only once or twice. He sends the past Thunderbird has certainly had problems of file over 4 GB in size and lost. This is no longer the case.

    2. what compaction does something on the compression of mail. It is not compression is the compression. A nuclear explosion creates a compression wave that compact removable items. Similarly, compaction in Thunderbird takes a sparsely populated data file and place messages closer together by removing deleted messages used to occupy the space.

    3. that their anti virus program is actually an interesting product. Most of the problems with mail, data loss and inexplicable reboots or programs and windows itself can be parked just in front of the doors anti virus vendors. That's why Microsoft are really trying to squeeze out them quietly and without any finger pointing. This would create any dispute. So, we get Microsoft Security Essentials, then Windows Defender, now of Microsoft Family protection. None of these are better than the third-party products and often leave gaping holes. But they result from the fact that gives Windows anti-virus software a bad reputation. Mac users are not something like windows for questions users suffer in connectivity, and it's not because OSX is really better.

  • I get a box to popup asking to upgrade to ver 33.0 what is current worm?

running WXP, FireFox 32.0.3, everything seems fine. Sometimes an applet opens asking implementing updated level of worm 33.0.0. I suspect that this is a hack and never commit but close. When I opened the box of remarks he said that I'm up-to-date with 32.0.3.
This is the latest version? Is the popup a trap? If yes should we not have a fix?
    Thanks Carl

In fact it could have a legitimate notice updated Mozilla, but by mistake. 33.0 Firefox is scheduled for immediate release October 14.

Thanks for your response! After watching others on this, I found the problem!

Since we went from Doubleclick of Adform's ad service, I had added a "clickTAG" link directly in the html document:

This triggered the popup for a reason, but it worked fine when I put the a href tag in comments.

  • Slow APEVIA CYBERPOWER, 4-core, Windows 7 Home premium-slow two start and several popups asking me to change the settings

I followed all the directions to Norton Support staff, but windows won't let me access the 'C:\Users\Chris>chkdsk.  My machine is slow and several companies have informed me serious problems.  (In the black box) of "Start - Search says chkdsk " access denied because you don't have enough privileges. " You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode.  I used the system and Defragmenter tools.  The "USER ACCOUNT" of my control panel lists ' Chris as administrator, still will not allow me access!  Neither I nor Tech Norton can understand this one.  CAN ANYONE?

My problem is that now I'm quite cash and poor credit and I can not find a freeware without scanner is not a costly record for the fix.  Now I wonder if they still exist.  Can someone help an old man handicapped with nothing in his life to do than to play Flight Simulator-X.

I bought a computer from them 4 years ago and my experience was not very good.  I had to replace the motherboard and power supply and while I was there I replaced the RAM sticks because they were not compatible with the jury as well the only thing original is the case, and the microphone on the front panel is not working still I have not tried yet the helmet.

I don't know what the problem with your machine, but it is possible that it is hardware or software partners. I suggest that you post in the forums there is someone out there can help you out. If your machine is still under warranty I contact them or take it to a reputable repairshop. Just to let you know I was really sick and I couldn't return my machine within a period of one month return policy, and they told me to come any time to get my computer fixed.
I rode it five times and was always a problem. The only solution was to fix it myself.

Yes.  Adobe could suck that much.

Uninstall Adobe Flash Player (all that you see) the Control Panel--> Add / Remove programs.

    Reset.

Download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.  (Link here...)

    Reset.

If the message goes - you are golden.

If you think you're still infected/infested...

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

  • Windows Mail Security Popup

Suddenly, I get a Windows Security popup asking username and password everytime I try to send or receive e-mail in Windows Mail.  This information is in the account profile, the block remember password is checked, and there has never been a problem before.  I provide the security popup and check the block do not forget to send or receive.  I am then able to send or receive OK right now, but I get the popup again when I try to send or receive again.  Had a recent update that created this problem?  How do I return to normal email without the irritating popup every time?

    Hello JCSTE,

Thank you for your response back!

I would first try to test this by creating a new user account with Windows Mail and see if you duplicate the question during the sending/receiving mail.  If you do not have the same problem, then it could possibly be a corrupted account.  In most of the scenerios where I see what is happening to the user will create a new user account and then delete the previous class.

With assistance from the system restore, this might or might not solve the problem, especially if the account is corrupted.  But since this is a recent problem and I hope that you have not added new software or programs in the last few days so you don't lose anything.  Please let us know status.  Thanks again!
