  You can use CS5 'by' CC, they just don't fit with the other. Things like DynamicLink never work on the same level of version for simple technical reasons and CS5 simply did not have many of these features to start, we're talking essentially completely separate workflows where everything is transferred only as renderings clips.

  The Mercury playback engine is an integral part of the CS5. It is still used, you cannot turn it off. But you can change if material MPE or MPE software is used by changing the parameters of the project.

  "High spec" is rather questionable, if you have only a single drive. It is less than the minimum requirements. If things do not work with the speed you expect, make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements at least or better by adding a few SATA 7200 RPM additional physical disks.

  If you want to see if your system is really high spec, run the PPBM5 Benchmark but prepare to very disappointing results. I would not be surprised to see the results of the tests more than 400 seconds, perhaps even 500.

  Actually, AfterEffects and Premiere Pro are the only "64-bit only" applications in the CS5 Master Collection. Everything else is either 32 bits by default or a 32-bit and 64-bit version, as does Photoshop.
