Portable Envy 17 F7T68EA #ABU: Touchpad does not / not cursor

I have recently purchased this laptop to replace my very old desktop computer and am still meet with her and W8.1 o/s.  Just tried to connect a keyboard and wireless mouse (classic HP Wireless Desktop game) and lost the cursor and all the functions on the touchpad. The wireless keyboard/mouse don't show any children successful login message, and no error message. The mouse worked briefly and jerkily with a delay of 5 seconds, the keyboard did not work at all. The only way I could figure to close the machine that I couldn't in the settings menu without the touchpad works was to hold down the power button until the light went.

Have you tried a wired mouse, but while the laptop acknowledges that it is plugged in (it beeps at me), which does not work either. Have also tried a "hard re - set" i.e. Remove sector and battery and hold the power for 30 seconds, but nothing helped.

Any other suggestions welcome!

Thank you very much.

Hey @Womblemeister,

If you click on the Windows key or flag of the keyboard and just start typing the properties of the mouse, it will show you a screen to restore the default values. If you just keep the tab you will come to this tab.

If it does really not just plug a USB mouse to restore the settings.

Thank you.

You could try a Hard Reset.

Forced to Power Reset - "Hard Reset".

    • Perform the Hard Reset .  Start the computer and connect

Hard Reset is a reset of the driver; This isn't Windows 8 resetting that installs the operating system.  The procedure to hard reset does not erase your files or it destroys your Windows installation somehow.

Why a power reset works to solve some problems:

Hard Reset erases the pilot instructions that generally persist to boot-to-boot.  The Hard Reset is a way to force the computer to read the instructions of drivers and software stored in the operating system.  The compensation action and forcing a new reading on the disk and software drivers can solve some problems.

I recently bought a 2nd hand Toshiba Satellite x 200-219. Had some problems with it that I have overcome now, except one... The touchpad does not work as it should. I think that the cable has been damaged at some point.

I tried searching on the net for advice but have resulted in nothing so thought I would try the forums.

    * PS.* sorry for my bad English. Is it normal that my laptop seems overheated and my battery life seems to be reduced when I use Linux?

    Hello

    Yes, you're right!
In the direct (stable mode without having to install), the touchpad does not work.

However, once installed, it will work.

In regards to shortcut keys, yes they are mapped correctly.
They are treated to the old-fashioned way (former Toshiba models had the mapping used by Linux on this model).
If you want help, file a bug report on bugs to Ubuntu system.

You can always change the brightness by using the GUI (Control Panel > brightness & Lock).

Fun with Ubuntu on your device!

    Hello world
I installed Windows 7 on my Satellite Pro A200-1 s 1, recovered all the drivers on the Toshiba site, everything works fine (less than the webcam that doesn't work even with the previous s.o. You reinstall the driver for the touchpad?
    Check it!

Also check if the option disable touchpad when USB mouse is connected is not checked. That are in the control panel-> mouse-> device settings

    HI Jorge,.

If you have reinstalled your system using the Toshiba recovery disks the touchpad should have the right drivers and be fully functional. I seem to remember that it is possible to disable the touch pad using one of the "keyboard shortcuts" (F9 on my SA30) in order to check that it has not been inadvertently pressed.

Satellite A350 Touchpad does not work ok (unstable system and left button not loaded).

I tried to make the driver but nothing. No problem drivers (conf system). I have the driver for the touchpad stroped and with an external mouse everything is working properly.

What should I do? Don't you think it's hard or soft the problem. * The touchpad is NEVER worked.*

    Hello!

The touchpad does appear in Device Manager or you have here yellow exclamation points?

Like Akuma says you can enable or disable the touchpad with FN + F9 key combination.
    Did you check that?

In the worst cases, you must go to an ASP. It seems to be a hardware malfunction, and this must be checked by a technician of the laptop. Here, you can search the nearest ASP:

  • My touchpad does not work well on Satellite C55-A-1ND

For several days my touchpad does not work well. It has nothing to do with the power touchpad button on the F5 key.

The touchpad is most time does not and something a bit but I can't use the touchpad at all now.

When I attach my external mouse on my laptop I can use my laptop otherwise I can't use my laptop.
I already rebooted my laptop several times, but it helps not at all.

I hope someone can help me!

You said that this issue has nothing to do with the touchpad on/off function s.
So what's exactly wrong with the touchpad? Is he disabled or enabled?

Have you checked the settings in the control panel-> mouse-> last (device settings) tab-> settings button?

Have you already tried to reinstall the software/driver for touchpad?
If this is not the case, do.

By the way: what model of laptop and what system you have?

  • Satellite C850D-11 q - keyboard and the Touchpad does not

The laptop is a little more than a year and worked ok until recently.

Symptoms were the keyboard and the touchpad does not not on page 8 of windows logon. Pressing power to put the laptop into sleep and pressing still often got their work.

He progressed to the keyboard and the touchpad works do not randomly points while the use of the laptop.

Finally cleared the HARD drive and restored windows 8 alone, the laptop still BSOD quite frequently - refuses to install the updates required for 8.1 and the keyboard and mouse often do not work even in BIOS Setup page. I reinstalled the RAM and HARD drive.

Short of ideas, the keyboard and the touchpad work and so I guess that their connections are correct - but often they just stop.

    Any ideas appreciated?

    Thank you

    Hello

    > Finally cleared the HARD drive and restored windows 8 only
I hope that you created before Toshiba recovery disks you have formatted the system.
    Did you?

The recovery disks will allow you to reset the laptop to factory settings; on the same State as at the first day of the purchase.

    > First symptoms were the keyboard and the touchpad does not not on page 8 of windows logon. Pressing power to put the laptop into sleep and pressing still often got their work.
Well, usually the keyboard problems are not problems system or software as the keyboard driver is part of the system and an additional installation of some drivers is not really essential and necessary.
That is why in most of the cases the keyboard problems could be the causes of physical problems.

However, after using the recovery disc and the parameters of the laptop back to factory State, both parties (keyboard and touchpad) should work perfectly.

    > the BSOD laptop still quite frequently - refuses to install the updates required for 8.1
BSOD doesn't look very good. As mentioned above; parameters of the laptop back to factory settings should solve all the problems in the system. In the case where the BSOD appears even if the power has been turned back to factory State, a hardware problem could be the reason for this.

I had also some problems with the update 8.1 Win. The system to win 8 could not find the Win 8.1.
But the reason for this was simply. I had to install all updates to Win 8 and had to update the State system before trying to update to the next level following 8.1 Win

So, what can I say: I will try to put the laptop initial configuration using the recovery disk.
Then I would try to get automatic updates (a few reboots were essential too). After that, I would check the functionality of the keyboard and the touchpad. In the case where them parts would not work, I would contact the service to check if the two pieces.

  • Satellite L50-A013 - touchpad does not work

    Hi all

I've had my L50-A013 Satellite for about 7 months now.

In the last month or so I started to have problems with the touchpad, freezing and does not not my contact.
This lasted a few minutes at a time, then came the back of its own accord, almost like a very long latency period.
This morning, however, I turned on my laptop and the touchpad does not work.

Device Manager does not display a mouse or pointing device at all until I attach a mouse USB.
By pressing the key that normally activates / deactivates the touchpad does not work - nothing changes and the light does not turn on in both positions.

I tried reinstalling the drivers without result, and windows is no update that might help (or any recently that might have caused the problem).

If anyone has any other ideas for what I can try, it would be amazing.
The laptop is under warranty so I can hopefully get it fixed, but if possible I would really do not have to go without a computer until it's settled.

Thank you all for your time,
    -Sase

    Hi Sase

It is not easy to say what the problem is, but I can imagine that there is hardware problem. Perhaps touchpad loses the connection to the motherboard. I mean if this piece of hardware is not detected I can imagine this scenario.

Of course best test you can do now is to reinstall OS and test functionality with the factory settings, but will delete your actual configuration of OS and software pre-installed.

If this kind of test is possible do. If not, I think you must contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They have special diagnostic tools and they can check it for you.
